CompuBox statistics for Green-Mundine

CompuBox assessment backs Danny Green's points decision victory over Anthony Mundine

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/indepe ... 957b96125a

CompuBox shows that Green not only threw nearly double the number of punches that Mundine threw, he also landed 23 more.

“Green's volume (60.3 per round to Mundine's 35.6) and body punching (40 of 57 jab connects, 44 of 86 landed power shots and 84 of 143 overall) superseded Mundine's accuracy in terms of getting the majority decision,” CompuBox’s summary said.

“Green's jab was more active and his energy level higher, though Mundine had a few good moments in the later rounds.”

The CompuBox figures presented aren't as clear as they might be. But what they do confirm is that Green was much busier and that he threw a lot more punches than Mundine did. But anybody who has watched the fight would have had to have been blind not to see that.

The CompuBox figures also show that even though Green only landed a small percentage of his overall punches thrown he still landed 23 more times than Mundine did.

When Green's side commissioned CompuBox to do this, did they ask for the round by round numbers to be made available? Surely people know that boxing matches are scored round by round, so Green landing more punches over the course of 10 rounds doesn't mean too much on its own, especially when you're talking about a small number such as 23. Even if one fighter does outland the other in the majority of rounds, at least per the opinion of someone at CompuBox, there is more to scoring for that.

Hard for me to take that article seriously when it puts so much weight ('comprehensively backed his points decision') in such a flawed method of assessment.

As I said, the CompuBox figures presented aren't as clear as they might be. It appears the newspaper have summarized the round by round figures and in the process lost the useful meaning of the data.

I suspect team Green have commissioned the CompuBox report because team Mundine are looking to appeal the result.

Green is reaching hard by using compubox now. Not independent people scored the fight for Mundine whether he landed more punches overall or not is totally irrelevant in professional boxing.

Those people weren't the official judges either.

But we could go on splitting hairs til the cows come home.

The bottom line is GREEN MD10.

So you agree with the seventh round being scored a draw?

My view, and everybody else's other than the 3 judges on the night, is purely academic to the result.

The fight was nearly 2 weeks ago now and quite frankly I'm over it.

The odds that sport bet were offering after round 9.........$1.06 Mundine to win and Green was paying $8.00 that's my Compubox :OhYes: so Green should have needed a KO in round 10 to get the win :shame:

The CompuBox data shows Green outlanded Mundine in 7 of the 10 rounds.

And here I was thinking actual boxing fans knew better than to cite close compubox numbers for an argument.

I merely pointed out the CompuBox numbers. Plainly they don't suit your argument

I guess that's why they have 3 judges on the night?

Oh, that's right, their numbers don't suit your argument either

The judges decision seems to go against the general consensus, didn't boxing monthly actually wrote an article about it being a robbery?

But out of curiosity did you have
Bradley beating Pacquiao?
Ward beating Kovalev?
Trinidad beating DLH?
Mayweather beating Castillo?
Or do you admit that the judges far too frequently get it wrong?

It's the Australia & Pacific forum and the thread is about the Green-Mundine fight. Diverting off the subject presents no interest to me. There are sub-forums for discussing international fights though.

The judges scores don't suit you. The CompuBox numbers doesn't suit you. That's just the way things are. They aren't my numbers. Take it up with them if you don't like it.

You're trying to imply that the judges score is infallible, so my question has everything to do with this thread. Judges give bad decisions and this is certainly according to the consensus among general public and the boxing community a bad one. I didn't say I disagreed with the compubox numbers simply just that they were meangingless and a 23 punch difference means nothing.

I'm much more interested to see what comes of the ANBF appeal though. It will be interesting to see how they handle it if they do indeed agree with the majority.

Meh compubox had Kovalev outlanding Ward(as well there was a KD). These things happen in close fights.

Green fans are going all out to defend their fraud! Using compubox statistics to try say a fighter "won" a close fight is so flawed.

Alls these statistics show is that Mundine was the far crisper puncher (the way people that know boxing normally judge close fights) and that Green hit gloves, arms and thin air 460 times in the fight! Your "compubox" argument is hardly compelling and is very desperate.

99% of people that watched the fight agree that Mundine won! You'll have to live with it.

On that article but, it's amazing how the real Danny Green is now out in the open. He just says what he has to say and some fools will eat it up, no matter how garbage it is.

You scored the fight for Green. Too late to try and back flip on it now.

People, including the judges, saw the fight differently to you. Why that brings them in for constant criticism from you I'm not sure?

Close fights are hard to score and if there's one thing most people do agree on about Green-Mundine II it is that it was a close fight. The punch stats support that as well.

At least one side is always unhappy once the result of a close fight is handed down and this one is no different.

Tbh man, the "close fight" veiw is becoming a cop out! The Kovalev vs Ward fight was a "close" fight. I can understand the Kovalev fans having a bit to say, but it was 50/50 for me.

These "people" you speak of, that seen the fight differently to myself. I've counted 8 of them in the entire country. Yes... 8! No need to rub your eyes. I have encountered at least 500 delusional Danny Green fans from all sources over the last 10 years. Most of them seem to have disappeared after Green WON!... Very interesting.

Oh, the punch stats . Mundine's percentage of punches landed was easily better than Greens. That's what the statistics show. They also show that Green. Only landed something like 24% of his shots. I'd like to see a fight in history where a guy has only landed 23% of his punches in a "close" fight and won...
