Maybe if Ruiz had a good jab, good movement, good power - anything other than a basic brawl forward and hold/hit. His fights caused uproar for how much of a shambles they were. His fights against Rahman, Oquendo and Valuev make it into my worst fights of all time list.Sklar wrote:I can't believe the people picking Tony over John Ruiz are typing with straight faces.

So basically, to round it up, Hayes last 16 opponents would smash Tony?
That sounds about right

Bellew isn't a heavyweight, there's no shame to it, but Ruiz beat some pretty decent fighters.
Jones Jr had magical handspeed, footwork and was the P4P best fighter at the time - exceptions don't make rules.
Usyk isn't a heavyweight but you won't find anyone here who'd pick Ruiz to beat him.

The Cat would have mauled Bellew. Meow!

John Ruiz was a horror to watch and I hate him to this day. But if you can wrestle Andrew Golota, Hasim Rahman, Nikolay Valuev and Jameel McCline all night then Tony Bellew isn't going to hold you off for long.
Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
Off the top of my head Chisora is the only one is really doubt Bellew could beat.

Bellew is suddenly a HW juggernaut?! Who started this his brother or promoter?

I really don't understand this. I may be grossly underrating Bellew but I'm not even sure he beats Tomasz Bonin let alone Ruiz, Valuev, or Del Boy.Tanzio wrote:Bellew is suddenly a HW juggernaut?! Who started this his brother or promoter?
FWIW I would favor Ruiz, Valuev, Chisora, Barrett, Mormeck, and Enzo against Tony. Him and Frag would be a good scrap.

I think he could beat Chisora too.

Bellew has zero pedigree at heavyweight, I'd not make him favourite against any of the heavyweights on the list.

It's nuts isn't it. I mean what has Bellew done to suggest he'd beat a genuine heavyweight of any level?sweetscience wrote:Have I wondered over to the current scene![]()

Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
Chisora would smash him. Man against boy.
Mormeck and the best Enzo would both beat him too.
Valuev would stop him and Ruiz would also beat him. I'd give Monte Barrett a great chance of stopping him too. Fragomeni would be a 50/50 fight too.
Bellew wildly overrated on here

Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
Ruiz would give Uysk all he could handle. Cruiser is a decent division right now because the standard is competitive. Doesn't make the standard sky high though. Uysk is a very good fighter in a division of decent fighters.TheLeprechaun wrote:Fat Git wrote:Ruiz could fight 12 rounds, and he was strong and tough, I don't know how Tony Bellew at around 15 stone could keep him off for that distance.TheLeprechaun wrote: I disagree about Ruiz. Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
Audley Harrison would have beaten Bellew with relative ease I reckon. Bellew isn't a heavyweight I don't think he could have beaten any of the heavyweights Haye has fought, even de mori would be a complete monster compared to him. Oh maybe possibly gerjajaggagag
Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
I agree, I think people are forgetting how good Mormeck was perhaps because their perception of him is coloured by his ill-advised HW outings. I also have Fragomeni beating him - I may be alone there - but he was decent in his prime and Bellew is far from the best active CW...PredatorHayds wrote:I'd put my house on Mormeck beating Bellew.
Watched a lot of him at the time and always rated him highly
Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
Politely disagree. Usyk would have handled Ruiz comfortably. Cruiser Usyk takes Cruiser Haye Imo.lillywhite14 wrote:Ruiz would give Uysk all he could handle. Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
No chance. Here are the fighters who Haye has beat who would comfortably beat Bellew IMO:
Valuev
Ruitz
Chisora
Mormeck
And I certainly think Harrison, Fragomeni, Barrett and Enzo would be 50/50 fights with Bellew.

Over the years I have enjoyed boxrec but lately it has become casual central. I cannot understand some of these threads and find it hard to believe some posters are actually boxing fans. This place used to be a place to come and swap opinions with knowledgable boxing fans ffs

Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
I think he could but not as easily.
He wouldn't stop Chisora in 5 rounds, it'd be a close points win. Enzo would be 50-50 since Bellew doesn't have an iron chin either and Enzo can bang.

Re: Could Bellew beat everyone Haye has beaten?
I think Chisora would bully the hell out of him
Do some people think Bellew is a really good back foot boxer just because of the Ovil rematch? He usually gets hit plenty by decent opponents, is easily hurt, and is prone to mid-fight lulls. People talk of Ruiz being limited, but even shot Val Brudov had Bellew all over the place; Brudov then lost every round prior to being knocked out cold by Chakiev 2 fights later. And Masternak, a guy who invariably falls short against top 20 CWs, wouldve gotten a draw had he won the final round I believe.
It's not impossible, but I highly doubt that Bellew would get through Mormeck, Enzo, Frago, Valuev, Chisora, and Ruiz with 6 wins.
