Danny Garcia: I Won't Fight Thurman Without Dad in My Corner!
If the New York State Athletic Commission suspends Angel Garcia, Danny Garcia will pull out of his fight against Keith Thurman.
Danny Garcia told BS.com following a media workout Wednesday at his gym that he won’t fight Thurman without his father/trainer in his corner.
Angel Garcia revealed earlier Wednesday that he will meet with the NYSAC sometime in the week before Danny Garcia’s March 4 fight against Thurman to discuss his boorish behavior during a press conference to officially announce the bout January 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Angel Garcia, one of boxing’s most controversial figures, caused an ugly incident that afternoon by trying to attack Thurman after the WBA world welterweight champion promised he would knock out Danny Garcia when they meet at Barclays Center (CBS). Angel Garcia also repeatedly referred to Thurman as a “n*gga” and a “bitch.”

Convenient cop-out for Garcia that is.
I hope they don't ban his father, because I am hoping that Thurman teaches him a real boxing lesson.

His dad should be suspended, racist language cannot be seen to be tolerated in press confrences etc, plus Angel has previous so they should throw the book at him, Danny's CV is top notch but his legacy has took a hit recently because of his more recent opponents, if he pulls out of the Thurman fight then the haters will rightly have some ammo
If Danny was worried about his dad getting suspended then he should've had a word with him years ago

Danny should be stripped if he pulls out. He will prove again that he became a cherry picker.

Danny's dad should be real proud of himself. Jeopardizeing his son's career because he can't control himself. I don't really blame Danny. His dad is probably a lot to deal with on the daily and I'm sure Danny isn't going to turn against his own father and tell him how to act. I actually feel bad for Danny. He seems a good guy and the quite mature. He just has a psycho as a dad and trainer he has to deal with.
Re: Danny Garcia: I Won't Fight Thurman Without Dad in My Corner!
I already have more than my share of criticism for Danny for the path he's taken with his career lately. If he pulls out of the Thurman fight because of his Daddy, I'll never stop sh*tting on him.

Boxing fans are pretty intolerant folks.

I'm particularly intolerant of cowardice in fighters. Nothing will make me turn on a guy quicker than blatant cowardice, and if he pulls out of this fight with Thurman. Whatever excuse he wants to give. He's a coward.Impractical Poster wrote:Boxing fans are pretty intolerant folks.

I absolutely want to see this fight. But Garcia has proved in past opponents that he's not a coward. He's just not taking this journey without his crazy pops.gilgamesh wrote:I'm particularly intolerant of cowardice in fighters. He's showed in recent years a reluctance to fight the best. So the cowardice is already there. Fighting Thurman was going to redeem the sorry few years he's had, if he passes on fighting Thurman he's essentially thrown his career away in my opinion, and should never be taken seriously again.Impractical Poster wrote:I absolutely want to see this fight. I have a hard time calling any of these guys who risk their lives trying to knock each other out for our entertainment cowards. If they are cowards, I hate to think of what I am.

If you paid me even a small fraction of what these guys are paid I'd fight anybody in the world in a heartbeat. Nobody would pay me that kinda money because I can't fight like that, but I wouldn't hesitate to try for that kinda dough.Impractical Poster wrote:I have a hard time calling any of these guys who risk their lives trying to knock each other out for our entertainment cowards. It's easier said for us than done since the reality of us stepping in the ring isn't there.gilgamesh wrote:If you paid me even a small fraction of what these guys are paid I'd fight anybody in the world in a heartbeat. I'm sure his comp the last couple years has a lot more to do with his management than it does him. Do you really think he's scared of Thurman? Just to get it straight, I'm not particularly a fan of Garcia. I'm picking Thurman. I just can't condone certain terms when it comes to fighters of this caliber.

And for these guys who are obviously reluctant to step in with a live body, I tend to lean on the side of whether it's the best move for their career than not than being a coward. I've seen a lot of interviews where fighters say they are scared and nervous every time they step in the ring regardless of who they are facing.

He's scared of him if he backs out of the fight, yes that's how I'd perceive it.Impractical Poster wrote:It's easier said for us than done since the reality of us stepping in the ring isn't there.gilgamesh wrote:If you paid me even a small fraction of what these guys are paid I'd fight anybody in the world in a heartbeat. I've had an amateur Boxing match so I know about stepping into the ring, and I didn't even get paid for that.
When you get paid to fight. Do your job and fight.
Re: Danny Garcia: I Won't Fight Thurman Without Dad in My Corner!
That's probably the case for most anybody, and if it's not that might not be a good thing either because you're overconfident. I think most people would be at best a little uneasy going into a fight.Impractical Poster wrote:And for these guys who are obviously reluctant to step in with a live body, I tend to lean on the side of whether it's the best move for their career than not than being a coward. Re: Danny Garcia: I Won't Fight Thurman Without Dad in My Corner!
There are many incompetent boxers - who step into boxing rings all over the world - knowing they'll probably get knocked out.. They go in there for one reason...the money! ... I don't want to criticize their values too much, but I don't think they're that brave or courageous.. It takes more guts to build yourself into a top boxer, and win consistently at the world level, than it does to go in there as a 2nd rater and get your ass trashed repeatedly.. Anyone can do that.gilgamesh wrote:If you paid me even a small fraction of what these guys are paid I'd fight anybody in the world in a heartbeat. Re: Danny Garcia: I Won't Fight Thurman Without Dad in My Corner!
Well Danny's old man does talk a bit out of turn here and there but it's hard not to remember Bernard Hopkins comment in relation to the Joe Calzaghe fight.
These racial arguments could go on all day and I'll be happy when they've disappeared altogether but everyone has to play by the rules, I hope the hype leading up to this superb match up isn't based on racial grounds because when we start all that old bollocks it makes us all look like wankers.
Garcia v Thurman is one of the best match ups in the year so far, regardless of who you're cheering for break them down on skill personality style whatever you like just stay away from the negative stuff that those outside the sport want us to migrate toward.
There so many good things to say about these two boxers why go down that road and divide people.

Bernard trolled for a bit of publicity and Angel went on a toothless crackhead rant repeatedly calling Thurman a bitch ass n*gger. It's not the same.Evander wrote:Well Danny's old man does talk a bit out of turn here and there but it's hard not to remember Bernard Hopkins comment in relation to the Joe Calzaghe fight.

Hey in no way am I saying Angel Garcia is clean, for one thing I didn't know he actually said THAT about Keith and if he did he's way out of line and needs to be spoken too very strongly behind the scenes.clopixolacuphase wrote:Bernard trolled for a bit of publicity and Angel went on a toothless crackhead rant repeatedly calling Thurman a bitch ass n*gger. If Angel decides he can just shoot his mouth of at will then it's a verbal open season on Angel Garcia and it won't likely end up well for him.
That said Bernard Hopkins should not have been given a pass on his comments either, I don't buy the trolled for a bit of publicity excuse sorry but I don't.
