Calling out the WBA
Making a mockery of the sport for money purposes, as if they don't make enough already!
They're corrupt bastards.
Who governs them? Do they have the power to do what they please? Because if so, what happens when they decide they want 5 world titles?
Briggs, Oquendo, Charr and Solis are all nearly undeserving of a pro-license for different reasons, so how does this organisation deem them top 10?!
And aside from that, even if they had top guys in these bouts, they'd back out because no one wants these worthless belts!
This is just their scheme to trawl money from as many fighters as possible, what other shitty belts do they have out there?
Is there a intercontinental or silver belt out there?

Re: Calling out the WBA
The WBA said their goal was to have one WBA champion per division. They have a long way to go, especially with the heavyweight division.

Re: Calling out the WBA
There are currently 31 men from 16 weight divisions, holding one of the various types of WBA world championship belts on offer (i.e. Undisputed, Super, Regular & Interim). This statistic excludes the currently vacant heavyweight division, which will shortly add two more belt holders to that tally.
To put this into context, from the 17 weight classes, the WBC “officially” have fourteen world champions, with the remaining three divisions being vacant (regardless of the other belts they have to offer). If we also include their "silver" champions, the amount of “prestigious” WBC world titleholders grows to 29, which excludes their interim champs (i.e. such as the cruiserweight belt being fought for by Marco Huck and Mairis Briedis, as well as the featherweight belt owned by Oscar Escandon - there are probably more WBC “interim” champs but I can't be bothered looking).
In terms of the prestige of the WBC’s “silver” world title, should the likes of Johann Duhaupas (heavyweight) and Immanuwel Aleem (middleweight) be considered as reputable top-tier genuine world class talent?
The WBA & WBC both charge each fighter that competes for their belts the same 3% fight purse sanctioning fee.
Therefore, if the WBA are making a mockery of our beloved sport, then why doesn’t anyone complain about the sports other governing bodies, such as the WBC, since they seem to commit many of the same “crimes”?

Re: Calling out the WBA
Great thread here are some other questionable things about the WBA in recent years.
1. Mandating Flores vs Rigondeaux despite the fact that Venezuelan/Panamanian Nehomar Cermona has been Rigondeaux's mandatory challenger since 2013.
2. Stripping Chris Eubank Jr off of his interim title for 8 months of inactivity while not stripping Venezuelan Alfonso Blanco for 14 months of inactivity for the same title.
3. Not mandating Lara vs Culcay so that Andrade can pick up an easy title win.
4. Mandating Warren/Mcdonnell, Thurman/Avanesyan, Kovalev/Braehmer, Lebedev/Dorticos but never following thru.
5. Allowing Lebedev to not have his title on the line against Gassiev, all while never enforcing him to fight his mandatory challengers.
6. Annoyingly always ranking and giving title shots to Guillermo Jones and Fres Oquendo despite their massive inactivity.

- Allowing Shumenov to keep their regular LHW belt, then making him "super" without any reasons and allowing to keep it when fighting bums.
- Not stripping Sturm for months and not giving the belt back to Chudinov who didn't lose to Sturm in the first place.

Re: Calling out the WBA
WBA had announced last month that the Jack vs Cleverly winner must reach a deal by september 11 against Bivol. Anyone have any updates on whether any deal has been reached?

Don't forget Shumenov's career sponsored by WBA.halfamill wrote:Great thread here are some other questionable things about the WBA in recent years.

Oquendo has a court order for a title shot. Just be glad they're trying him up with one rather than giving him Joshua.
Re: Calling out the WBA
I'd frankly rather see him get flattened by Joshua than for the ongoing Oquendo vs Whoever ongoing WBA saga to drag on endlessly. Just dig up some guy for him to fight already for f*cks sake.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Oquendo has a court order for a title shot. I wasn't going to watch the Briggs fight and I won't watch him fight anyone else, including Joshua. Aj is already down to twice a year. Can't waste one on fres.gilgamesh wrote:I'd frankly rather see him get flattened by Joshua than for the ongoing Oquendo vs Whoever ongoing WBA saga to drag on endlessly. Re: Calling out the WBA
Sure he could. Fres could be used as training for his next fight. He could do a fight with Fres with a more meaningful fight scheduled for 2 weeks laterSaadOffTheDeck wrote:I wasn't going to watch the Briggs fight and I won't watch him fight anyone else, including Joshua. Logistically you know that's not true.

Yeah of course. That's why I put the laughing face.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Logistically you know that's not true.
In all seriousness though I don't see any reason why they couldn't have AJ smack him around, and then fight again in 2 months. I mean...why does it take 6 f*cking months to put a fight together? It didn't used to.

Re: Calling out the WBA
The bout sheer for a show in China shows Xiong Zhao Zhong fighting for a WBA minimumweight title in October ...wtf
Re: Calling out the WBA
Matthyse vs Kiram for the vacant regular title. I though WBA was working on 1 title per division?
Re: Calling out the WBA
You have a manxed opinion. The WBA are the worst, WBC are the best although they still do silly things.
The best one is the one that gets shot down all the time and thats the IBO but you get people that say it is not a real title ( lets stay with the corrupt ones).
Re: Calling out the WBA
I do believe the WBA are worse than the WBC and that is an impressive achievement. I'm not a big fan of the WBO either nor indeed the IBF but as I see it the IBF are the best eeee make that the least crap.
Re: Calling out the WBA
I think that is right too, but it is a shame there is so much anti feeling to the IBO because their policies and team are not corrupt at all, they just suffer because they are the unwanted 5th.

Re: Calling out the WBA
The IBO will never be acknowledged not because it's not legitimate. But because fans are already sick of acknowledging 4 corrupt organizations.
They could be the best but we will never know.
4 is a joke a fifth is just pathetic.
Re: Calling out the WBA
Yeah agreed. If they aren't corrupt then a bit of success would likely sort that out.
Re: Calling out the WBA
I'm surprised people aren't praising the IBF considering they do things boxing fans actually like. Mandating their mandatories and having a rehydration clause. They get too tied up in their own rules and usually have horrible rankings, though.
