Eubank takes blame for GGG collapse, open to Hearn reunion

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Chris Eubank Sr. says the fallout between Eddie Hearn, Chris Jr. and a doomed bout with Gennady Golovkin could have become messy had the former two-weight world champion not wanted to walk away.

Proclaiming to have been the bigger man, Eubank has now taken responsibility for the collapse of the contest in September, which was eventually taken by Kell Brook - who lost in five rounds to the middleweight king.

Chris Jr. has since gone on to link-up with ITV like his father did in the 1990’s.

“I can actually expose Eddie Hearn and Barry Hearn, but I’m not going to," Eubank told Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT this week.

“You know what, I’m gonna give, I’m gonna say it’s my fault because the buck ends with me. I could actually take a court case against him but I’m not gonna do that, I’m gonna take blame because that was yesterday.”

“My son is now champion of the world, we are now fighting on ITV Box Office, why should I be complaining about the past?”

Asked whether he would rule out ever working with Hearn and Matchroom Sport again, Eubank added: “No, because if I said yes that would be ignorance and we mustn’t be ignorant.”

“We’ve got to let go of the past and we have to take into consideration what these guys do for a living, it is hard to do what he does.”

It’s not certain Hearn would feel the same way as the promoter has been quite dismissive of reuniting in the months that have followed, although Eubank may yet face one of Matchroom’s stable in the future.

Eubank Sr outsmarted himself again...

There's nothing more arrogant and self serving than to say in effect, "I'm going to be the bigger man in this conflict. I’m going to be the better angel. I'm going to say I was at fault (even though I wasn't) for the greater good of my son's career and for the sake of this sport. Eddie Hearn has a tough job and I’m learned and cognizant enough to ... shall we say ... recognize that; even though I’m a preening, pompous ass who’s difficult to work with.”

It seems that the majority of the most vocal members of this forum employ double-standards, by persistently attacking the people they perceive to be "villains" without requiring the need to qualify the accuracy of their derogatory claims.

Whilst Chris Eubank Sr. is a flawed man, people often fail to scrutinise or recognise the issues with Eddie Hearn's car salesman-like patter.

One belt. Yeah. Not really. :OhYes:
I still see him as 3rd in his weight class.
Not having to protect an unbeaten record might make him take on unification fights, hopefully.
You have to admit, he has shown real improvement in the last 2 years. Maybe that is due to all the differing sparring he has done around the world. Either way, I think he has a good future ahead, and I cross my fingers that he will face top opposition.

Chris Eubank Sr has learned the age old tradition of boxing hype and he's superb at it, I like SR he was a hell of a good fighter in his day.
JR on the other hand is a likeable young man and looks the part, but as SR knows in order to gain serious attention at the top level JR has to do more than talk the talk.
You can get away with hype at the mainstream level but it doesn't work with us lot you have to take name scalps to get respect.
I saw JR's latest fight and it was ok, not a wow type of deal but it passed for the time being.
It's up to the Eubank's how they want to go about things, if it's just a money grab and box any low level Tom Dick or Harry go right ahead and keep doing what you're doing and it will satisfy the general public and it's all happy families.
But among the core fans if they choose that route the chances are hardly anyone will take them seriously, but a name opponent here and a name opponent there and he's in the game.
It's up to them and their choice of opponent will tell us what direction they intend of going in.
As it stands now JR isn't considered a threat based off of his loss to BJS, let's see what materializes from this point on.

I'm not sure what you mean by calling Hearn "car salesman-like." He gives you the good and the bad. He's not a glib, fast talker or super articulate and he tries hard to be real and honest. He wants his boxers to have what's fair and many boxers like to work with him as a result. He has a good idea of a fight's potential and he's one of the reasons the Brits are ascending. The fact that Eubank Sr. wants to mend fences with him, even with his jerky approach and arrogant rhetoric, shows you the Eubank's realize they messed things up a bit and Hearn doesn't have any hidden agenda. He gave Brook the same deal he offered Eubank -- a fair one.
