As we all know, if Mundine stayed at super middle when he was still fast and strong, he would've done much better. A good career but wasted a lot of years draining himself and starving at middle and junior middle. I don't listen too much of what he says outside the ring, but inside he has definitely showed he had some talent.

A bit of looking through'' rose coloured glasses'' feel about it but not a bad article. You're right he should never of dropped weight he should of stayed at 168 and not dropped his belt when Kessler become his mandatory. He probably would have lost but that was his optimum weight IMO.

Great article. Pretty much on par with what knowledgeable boxing fans think of Mundine.

Having a look at what he has done in the era that he's competed in, in 2 different sports. There's no doubt in my mind that he's the greatest athlete Australia has ever produced. Unquestionably.

I feel that some time around the 2nd Soliman fight, his main aim changed but. It became "money first, accolades 2nd" for Choc.

With his ability, he could've carved out a pretty good career in the states at SMW, competing in bigger fights. But he chose to make garaunteed millions in Australia, rather than playing 2nd fiddle to the internationally, better known fighters. Good on him but. That's his job, to make money.

When Choc was playing Rugby League, he was incredible. But he use to piss me off with his antics. I too was "that guy", telling people that Mundine would get "destroyed" in boxing. I made that opinion, based on the dislike of his perceived persona.

Then i seen him fight and got an understanding of his mindset. I was an instant fan.

People still, to this day have that sort of freaked out look in their eyes when i proudly tell them I'm a mad Mundine fan. They always seem shocked that i would come out and say that so proudly. But they soon understand why.

I remember you.

You posted this in August 2015 : "Mundine vs Cota will be for full JMW WBC Title" and this is your first post since.

Piss poor, Like a Boss! You weak man!

TimFreza posts a pretty good article about the man that has single handedly kept Australian boxing alive for at least the last 10 years, and that's all you've got. Can't even give him a comment on the article. Weak!

The article is unprofessional, fan-boy hero worship.
If I knew nothing at all about Anthony Mundine and wanted to read about him I would have closed out that article after a few paragraphs to search the web for something far less biased.

Here is my assessment of Mundine.

From my viewpoint here in America it appears that Anthony Mundine has achieved mainstream celebrity status in Australia and is a very polarizing person down there. You guys go crazy when Mundine is the subject.

Clearly Mundine is/was an exceptionally gifted athlete.
Before boxing he was working on a successful career in Rugby. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about Rugby but I believe Anthony was a key member of at least one championship team and have read from more than one source that he was the highest paid player in his league before departing for boxing.
As a boxer he twice won versions of the world title in his weight class.

How many athletes have won titles at the professional level of a team sport AND an individual sport?
I don't know the answer to that question but I'm confident that it is a very short list and would not be surprised if Anthony Mundine is the only active athlete on the planet who can say he has done it.

As a boxer he posted a career that likely exceeded the expectations/hopes of his detractors but fell short of the expectations of those looking only at his raw athletic talent and what might have been.
His record stands at 47-8, along the way he twice won versions of the world title, scored some big wins, had some embarrassing losses and by all accounts made huge money.
There was never a point in his career that he achieved general recognition as THE top boxer of his division but there is no shame in that. People like to be critical of the way he won his world titles.......I'm not going there, Anthony played by the rules of his time, he gets credit as a two-time WBA super middleweight title holder. Even the most blatant of Mundine fans can see that he went out of his way to avoid some fights...
Anthony wasn't keen on overseas opportunities but domestically he made the biggest fights and holds wins over ALL of his domestic rivals.
Once actually in the ring Mundine is a gladiator in there, the kind that needs his corner or the ref to save him from himself. Anthony never gave up on a fight, if he could still stand he was still trying to win......not trying to hear the final bell........still trying to win!! Anthony is ok with bludgeoning an over-matched opponent until the final bell but if the tables get turned he can take his beating too........a true boxing warrior(which I rarely see him get credit as such).
People say he should have stayed at 168..............I do not disagree but let's not forget he did have some success going down in weight during the later part of his career which is a rare. He deserves some credit for that. It's also rare to see boxers do their best work AFTER being on the wrong end of a brutal KO. Regardless of how the fight was going the KO loss to Ottke was brutal, the kind that ruins a lot of fighters. Mundine got better after that loss.

His best wins:
Danny Green UD 12............biggest fight of career, one of the biggest in Australian boxing history and he gave his rival a boxing lesson.
Daniel Geale SD 12........above is his biggest win, this is his best opponent defeated, Geale in his physical prime, significantly younger, unbeaten and fighting at his best weight........beating this kind of opponent looks good on the resume of any veteran boxer
Sam Soliman SD 12, KO 9, UD 12..............mainly the second two as the judges were very generous to The Man in the first fight, the second he won a world title, the third he defended an upgraded version of said title winning wide and proving himself clear superior to the rugged Soliman.
Sergey Rabchenko(sp?) SD 12..............a stirring performance from The Man. Coming off a lop-sided beating that seemed to be the end of his career he won a very hard fought decision over yet another significantly younger, unbeaten opponent fighting in his proper weight class
Antwun Echols UD 12................this was the fight that ruined Echols, he came in on a win streak posting the best results of his career and Anthony promptly put it to a halt, dominating the fight to win a WBA secondary belt. Echols was never the same after this one.

A long successful, respectable career as a boxer.
As a professional athlete............an exceptional career.
Anthony is not going to get into the International Boxing Hall of Fame but I'm sure he's a lock for whatever athletic hall of fame exists in Australia.

My post is made up of 4 parts.

1. I remember the poster.

2. His last post here was included, word for word.

3. The date of his last post was August 2015.

4. The post he made in this thread is his first since.

Nice try. But all of the above is irrefutable.

As for the article. It is an opinion piece on Anthony Mundine written by someone who is clearly a Mundine fan. Enough said.

There are so many websites crying out for copy, provided you punctuate your submission, someone will upload it no matter how biased it might read. Consequently the internet is now littered with essays lauding someone or other's hero.
