Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
I read that this Lomachenko guy is a Super- Feather and Naseem Hamed campaigned on or around Featherweight during his prime.
How would come out on top in this hypothetical match-up?

At some catchweight obviously. Let’s assume them the same size, give or take.

You have to assume Lomachenko can take a punch so it looks like a distance fight unless he gets Naz out of there. I don't see how Naz wins it, he would have a nightmare trying to stay with Lomachenko in this one. Major difference in footspeed and footwork

The thing with Hamed tho is that he had this habit of beating everybody up!TheLeprechaun wrote:You have to assume Lomachenko can take a punch so it looks like a distance fight unless he gets Naz out of there. Imagine him on his (not so little) roll....coming in, at the peak of his prowess, against this Lomachenko guy...
In all honesty, would they have even fought? Sometimes people like to preserve their interests....think Manny vs. Mayweather for example.
Naz managed to outbox (or at least outfight Wayne McCulloch - a master boxer - altho I know he wasn’t a puncher...).
I know hardly anything about this Russian (I assume that’s where he’s from).
Someone in Boxing Monthly for instance said he’s better than Willie Pep was. You don’t need to have seen Pep to get the gist..

McCullough was a good fighter but not in the league of Lomachenko skillwise. Although I would put as much money as possible on McCullough having a better chin.
Naz was caught a bit too easily for me. I wouldn't even be surprised if Lomachenko completely outclassed him and walked him into one that lays him out.

you know less than hardly anything about Wayne McCullough, if you're calling him a master boxermagwitch wrote:

I think Naz would beat Frampton or LSC though.
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Naz would get his head boxed off
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Naz was a featherweight, not a big featherweight either and he was a southpaw, when he came up against MAB, another southpaw, naz got schooled so imagine what this Ukranian (not Russian) would do who had over 300 amateur fights and only lost 1 bout? Naz wouldnt fight floyd @ super featherweight remember that?

Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Always thought Naz should have tried to make the Gatti fight. There was a time when Gatti was calling him out for a fight.
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
I remember there being whispers that they were fighting but it never materialised. Would've been a cracker that one. I also remember Mayweather being mentioned for Naz at one point as well.TheLeprechaun wrote:Always thought Naz should have tried to make the Gatti fight. Not sure about the Lomachenko fight. Depends what version of Naz. The Naz that clowned Jose Badillo would've beaten anyone around they weights that night IMO. I include Barrera, Morales etc in that.

Yeah, McCulloch was a pretty straight forward pressure fighter, who relied on his huge workrate and toughness to win fights.

I'd favour Loma to box his head off.

Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
It might work out much like the Barrera fight.
I think it would perhaps have been a close one had it been a prime Naz, but I'm not a believer he would have beaten Barrera at any stage in his career. MAB was a cut above anybody he had faced previously in terms of his overall game, and Lomachenko is better defensively than Marco ever was.

I doubt that stu, morales barrera or anyone around who was top class wouldnt of let naz do what he done badillo that night, naz was putting a show for his last night in sheffield but badillo wouldnt of laced morales or barreras bootsStuarty30 wrote:I remember there being whispers that they were fighting but it never materialised. Loma had his hands full getting beat by Salido - you really think Loma about 5 fights into his pro-career could have beat a peak Naz?
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
I don't mean he'd have done the same to guys of a higher calibre I just meant that he was peaking there and Naz in that form would've taken most at the lower weights. It's obviously a matter of opinion right enough. The Naz that lost to Barrera wasn't the same fighter as earlier in his career.thechump wrote:I doubt that stu, morales barrera or anyone around who was top class wouldnt of let naz do what he done badillo that night, naz was putting a show for his last night in sheffield but badillo wouldnt of laced morales or barreras bootsStuarty30 wrote:I remember there being whispers that they were fighting but it never materialised. Would've been good to see. The little prick just got too big for his boots and relied far too much on his power near the end.

100%. Loma got old manned in his second Pro fight.Kilsby wrote:You sure?PredatorHayds wrote:I'd favour Loma to box his head off.

Loma would do a similar outboxing job like MAB did.
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Hamed was good, but not in the Barrera, Morales, Pacman league and I think Lomachenko is fast approaching their league.
Lomachenko would probably give Hamed a boxing lesson.

Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
When naz was around i couldntvstand the prick but when i look back now he was the number one entertainer this country has ever produced,no one put on a show like naz,id of liked to see him vs mayweather or gatti when he was at his peak but like u say the little prick robbed us all of some great match ups. He should of stayed with ingle and warren. Remember that programme when his brother said "i feel sorry for them sparring partners today, naz is in a bad mood and somebody is gettin hurt today" then it showed little clips of the spar and manny steward said at the end "im not happy about today he isnt listening and things have got to change or he will lose" or somethin to that effect anyway lolStuarty30 wrote:I don't mean he'd have done the same to guys of a higher calibre I just meant that he was peaking there and Naz in that form would've taken most at the lower weights. Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Unless Naz lands a lucky punch, Lomachenko totally outboxes him and wins a wide decision.
Re: Question - Naseem or. Vasyl Lomachenko?
Naz was a bit before my time, and overall I don't know much about the fighters he beat. How do his victims compare to the likes of Walters, Russell, Martinez, and Sosa (Loma's next opponent)? Was there a fair bit of 90s WBO fluff in there?

that plus everyone else (decent) he beat was at least a year past prime
