Re: World boxing history challenge Week 7 - Carlos Monzon
She shot him... And he was her 2nd gunshot victim... So she was a little serial herself.

Great ring generalship and his expression never changed in a fight. He was like a rock. Expressionless. He could well be a serial killer sociopath. He gives me that impression.
Elmer, I think he gave his wife the same impression.

Pound per pound, the great Carlos Monzon was the best fighter after The Hands of Stone in the very talented 1970s decade.

Just watched the Briscoe fight and much like the Valdez fight I saw the other side of Monzon.
All the fights I'd seen him in previously he'd been the aggressor.
These bouts saw him in with aggresive opponent looking for a brawl and in both cases he controlled his man masterfully with a more fluent boxing style.
I'm very impressed and my opinion of King Carlos has risen greatly.
Very few fighters can look so brutal and effective on the attack and also box so fluently and still put the punches together on the back foot

Considering in the previous bouts I'd seen him in, the jab didn't seem a major part of his repertoire, it was certainly expertly deployed against Valdez and particularly Briscoe.handsofstone wrote:One of the best jabs ever??
