Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Daniel "The Miracle Man" Jacobs is convinced that he will not require a miracle to beat Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.
Jacobs believes that he will be the first serious test for Kazakhstan's dangerous puncher when they meet on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
"I will be 100 percent confident in my abilities. I feel confident right now, but as the training progresses, my confidence increases. One believes blindly that he can achieve something special. I'm at that point. I've always had the physical ability to beat him... my speed, power, ring dominance and intellect," Jacobs said to Carlos Gonzalez.
"It is said that Golovkin had more than 400 fights at the amateur level, but I had almost 200, so I have experience too. It's about believing in what you can do and that's really half the battle," Jacobs said.
"Boxing is a sport where a person is always on trial. I am not exempt from criticism. I fully understand what I have to do inside the ring. Although once you show that you are at that level, you have to keep doing it again and again."
"It's hard for me to understand how the odds have Golovkin as an 8-1 favorite, but it's not worth anything either to get into a discussion and get people to study the quality of the opponents I've faced when it's in the ring where I have to prove it."
"The work they have done [to build up Golovkin] has been excellent. They have placed him against opponents who were in the final part of their careers, they were not genuine middleweights and it gave the impression that he was devastating everyone. He's being placed [in a position where he is] the best in the world, but in reality he hasn't proved that yet."

I think Lemieux could beat Jacobs..
Just putting that out there.

He definitely could (given his power and Jacobs' questionable chin) but he probably wouldn't.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I think Lemieux could beat Jacobs..

I agree that Jacobs is GGG's best opponent and biggest test to date. GGG should be a clear favourite, but 8-1 is wider than it should be.

Lemieux is a KO artist just like Jacobs. GGG boxed against Lemieux and made him look average. He didn't give up though..jezzamundo wrote:He definitely could (given his power and Jacobs' questionable chin) but he probably wouldn't.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I think Lemieux could beat Jacobs..

GGG's wins are usually..
1. KO'd cold
2. Referee stoppage
3. Boxer does not want to continue.
I think this will be a referee stoppage.

Yes, and he is a logical part of that calculated matchmaking

Jacobs will feel the hype and it's not going to tickle.
Re: Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Jacobs could beat Lemieux.. He's easily GGG's toughest opponent... and if Golovkin gets past Jacobs he's got Eubank and Canelo... He's very definitely in a tough division right now.. But I think Billy Joe Saunders is doing a Tyson Fury impression.. After he finally wins a World Title he's paralyzed. Another one that comes to mind is Buster Douglas.. He retired mentally when he beat Tyson.. He realized he was going to have 10's of millions of dollars after his next fight.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I think Lemieux could beat Jacobs..

Re: Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Jacobs can crack and if he decides to try his power out on GGG's chin he can expect fire in return. I don't think his chin is as durable as GGG. If it goes down that way, Jacobs gets stopped.

Partially true.
GGG has only fought fighters who stand right in front of him.
That will make him look even more impressive because you can't do that and last 12 rounds.

Re: Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Several of GGG's opponents have been mobile against him, but they've actually tended to have more success when they plant their feet and throw.Assuming a similar general level of ability, a durable fighter who wouldn't be afraid to meet him in close and let their hands go would be just as much trouble as someone who is good at sticking and moving; he's not as effective when he has to tighten his punches up more than mid-range, he doesn't throw many counterpunches when people unload, and his offense is pretty much negated when he's moving back.
In that respect he reminds me somewhat of Kostya, who suffered both his defeat against maulers.

The biggest fight of Jacobs' career is just a mandatory defense for GGG
Think about that

Re: Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Vince Phillips a mauler??? ... Nah... Golovkin is nothing like Tszyu.. GGG throws a ton of jabs and they're quick and slick.. You can't counter them like you can Tszyu's.. And he fights inside and drills the body... Tszyu was lost on the inside.crusader wrote:Several of GGG's opponents have been mobile against him, but they've actually tended to have more success when they plant their feet and throw.Assuming a similar general level of ability, a durable fighter who wouldn't be afraid to meet him in close and let their hands go would be just as much trouble as someone who is good at sticking and moving; he's not as effective when he has to tighten his punches up more than mid-range, he doesn't throw many counterpunches when people unload, and his offense is pretty much negated when he's moving back.

Jacobs trying to convince himself now with delusions - But Jacobs ducked GGG for years and no words can hide that ugly truth -

Re: Jacobs Feels Golovkin's Hype is Built on Calculated Matchmaking
Golovkin's aura has been created by sensational KO wins and a ridiculous list of big name fighters who adamantly ducked GGG - FLoyd at 154 - Cotto - Sergio - Saunders - Jacobs - Quillin - Eubank - Canelo - there is a reason all these big name fighters ducked Golovkin and it's not because of "calculated matchmaking" - it's because they ALL KNEW THEY'D BE ON GGGs KO LIST and were too smart and terrified to commit career suicide -

Is Jacobs saying GGG hasn't proved he's the best middleweight in the world?!
Presumably he means GGG hasn't proved he's the best boxer in the world. Something I'm not sure anyone is actually saying.

Nobody GGG fought so far stood in front of him... Whether they're movers and boxers like Willie Monroe and Dominic Wade, or sluggers like Curtis Stevens or David Lemieux., they're all driven around the ring and end up on the ropes or in corners... where Golovkin worked them over and put them out. Many were never knocked out before. Now was Bennie Briscoe knocked out before he fought Hagler??? Yeah. Rodrigo Valdez smashed him out. Marv couldn't.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Partially true.

Okay so Briscoe, even as an old man was a tough guy. Was Marcos Gerald tough??? He was knocked out 10 times before he fought Hagler. Did Marv put him down or out??? He didn't. Did Duran fight 64 fights between bantamweight and Lightweight??? He seemed to go the distance. Did Leonard ever fight at Middleweight before he fought Hagler??? He didn't, but beat Hagler. Was Brook undefeated and never been stopped when he fought Golovkin??? I think so. What people are projecting onto GGG reflects their view of the world. Some won't acknowledge his greatness whatever he does.

I agree with much of that, including that Golovkin won't get the praise he deserves in all likelihood, but I think there's always going to be a bit of rose-tinted glasses in relation to older fighters, especially Hagler, Hearns etc.
I like Brook a lot but comparing him with Duran is still a little bit of a stretch...!

Calculated matchmaking ... Randomly pick a top 15 MW, and he either has already been stopped by Golovkin or has been approached and lost a pen, dropped a belt or priced himself out.

The guys who were "movers" sucked.
The legitimate opponents GGG has fought weren't good defensively, and were mostly guys who aren't "hard to find and touch".
That doesn't mean GGG isn't a great fighter dickhead.
It just means he should have fought a better variety of opponents.
That's on HBO and his promoters.
Still picking him to KO Jacobs.
