I like Briggs he's a character but these two fighting for a world title (even the WBA diluted secondary scrotum title) is an embarrassment even by the WBAs shady standards! Hopefully Briggs wins and gets a decent name/payday for a first defence then chucks it before he loses what marbles he has left.

It's going to be a terrible distance fight in my opinion; an old plodding guy with no stamina against an old guy who doesnt move his hands enough.

A lot of people seem to have a soft spot for Briggs, but Oquendo has had much worse luck when it comes to decisions (I was fuming when he got robbed against Bryd), and if one of them is going to win this trinket Id prefer it to be him.

They're both so ancient and inactive I wouldn't be surprised if the fight is decided by injury. Awful pairing. Oquendo being awkward and durable is a bad opponent for Shannon the antique Cannon. Let's go champ - out of boxing!

Might have been a decent fight about 15 years ago. Here's hoping one of them finishes it early so we don't have to endure the inevitable pain of watching this if it goes past 4.

WTF? :KO:

How is Fres Oquendo ranked #5 with the WBA when he's not fought in like 3 years? I assumed he retired.

This has got to be one of the worst heavyweight championship fights ever.

A 43 year old who hasn't fought in 3 years and has lost every single meaningful fight he's ever had. Against a 45 year old asthmatic who wasn't a top fighter in his prime and who's "world title" win was a gift decision against a 48 year old Foreman and hasn't fought a guy inside the top 50 since 2010.....

Briggs beating Foreman just led to his challenge against Lewis. His WBO win was 9 years later against Siarhei Liakhovich.

My bad I just looked it up. Briggs was his only loss after winning the IBF belt but he was stripped of the belt 2 years before. Which I completely forgot about! I think another reason for my mistake was Briggs vs Foreman was a 12 rounder even though not a single belt was on the line.

No no - Briggs vs Foreman was indeed for the lineal title. Foreman was the man who beat the man who beat the man etc. He'd gradually lost WBA and IBF recognition but he was technically still the champ. It was a cloudy situation because George was old and fighting who he pleased while waiting for a big payday.

If Oquendo has anything left then I fancy him to get a dull points win. I see him smothering Briggs early work and that'll be job done really.

What's hilarious about this is Briggs couldn't get a softer touch for a shot at a title belt. I don't think there's been too many situations where a guy who's been inactive for 3 years has fought for a title, but it would be hilarious with all the people that were acting as if Briggs would have a shot against legit opponents if he couldn't even beat Oquendo.

I think it's a strong possibility that Oquendo wins this.

But I expect this goes the distance, and is a sh*t fight with both fighters huffing and puffing and barely able to throw anything of significance beyond the 3rd round.

The heavyweights have never been better according to many here. This is sickening.

For those questioning why Oquendo is still ranked.

He is legally entitled to a title fight after Chagaev didn't give him a contracted rematch

What a mess
