Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
I'm not sure you can use the term "dominate" for the May-Pac fiasco... Pac did little but stand there while Floyd popped him with an occasional shot... Pac won 4 rounds but didn't come close to winning 7.. Makes you wonder what Pac would have done with an intact rotator cuff assembly.. But that was one of the most timid sparring sessions I've ever endured.

If mayweather did duck em,he would still have beaten them all,he already beated cotto and pacquiao. This thread is some bullsh#t.Floyd shouldn't have fought Paul Williams because of height advantage and if they did fought,Mayweather would have won.It must be because Floyd is black man, that's why they love to hate and criticize.bnovelist wrote:Where do I start? Mayweather is leaps and bounds ahead of Max Baer don't know why that name was even mentioned.bnovelist wrote:MAYWEATHER AVOIDED THE UNDEFEATED FIGHTERS LIKE PRIME COTTO, PAUL WILLIAMS, PRIME MANNY, ETC.... Mike Tyson was a megastar in his
prime just being Mike Tyson (sounds like a hit reality show there lol) Floyd had to PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE HIMSELF so how can he be in the
top 10 maybe TOP 20. This means that Mayweather is ranked higher than Larry Holmes, Max Baer, Marvin Hagler, Hearns, etc... NOT!!!![]()
So Mayweather beats Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Benitez, Hagler, etc.. OMG.....I'm about to throw up.
I wouldn't pick Mayweather to beat Duran, Leonard, Hearns or Hagler. I think he'd probably beat Benitez though. I do expect most of these fights would be close though except for Mayweather vs Hearns or Hagler both of whom I think would wreck him.
Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Absolute rubbish, they were about even after 6 rounds. You need to watch the fight again.Kalan wrote:Canelo was 22 when the Mayweather fight was signed. Now he's 26. He didn't have prime skills and he was fried at 152. He had no energy whatever and it was a terrible fight. Lara also beat Canelo and Saul was just starting to come into his own technically with the Cotto fight.
Pacquiao also had nothing to offer Floyd. He couldn't throw a smooth right jab or sharp right hook because of the rotator cuff tear was really bad. Not a thing happened until Pac landed a hard straight left in the 4th. Floyd was stunned and Pacquiao drove him against the ropes with a weak and brief flurry -- and backed off for no reason other than shoulder pain. Pac was done for the night. That was the only round won by a big punch. Every other round was won by the numbers. Floyd dominated a nothing fight vs Pacquiao.
Floyd's best fights were De La Hoya--not real exciting, but a good job of boxing by Floyd ... Mosley--Floyd turned the fight around in the 3rd ... Judah--Floyd lost the first 4 rounds and went to town after that ... Castillo II--Floyd won every round ... Hatton--Floyd won every round ... I actually don't consider Corrales a major effort because Chico was a flaccid flower stem for that fight. He didn't take a round and couldn't stand up without falling over -- much weaker than Pac and Canelo in fact. Floyd grabbed so much v Maidana that I wasn't impressed -- getting hit with junk he should never catch. I still rank him one of the 6 best boxers ever with Tunney, Pep, Sanchez, Jofre, and Lomachenko.
Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Hagler pretty much wrecked Hearns... And Hearns was pretty wreckable (hittable).
However Hagler didn't wreck Marcos Geraldo did he???? ... Geraldo had been knocked out 10 times before and I'm certain Mayweather could beat him.
And Hagler didn't wreck, floor, or stop an old version of Benny Briscoe did he??? ... Rodrigo Valdez wrecked a much younger and stronger Briscoe.. Nice hook!!

Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
YOU need to watch it again... Those commentators were blind starting with Lederman... He gave the 1st round to Hatton, even after Hatton was outpunched 24-5 and the slo-mo revealed that a shot Lederman thought landed, whiffed completely... The judges had much better scores than the commentators -- but even they gave Hatton a round or 2 he totally didn't deserve... Hatton got beaten silly and stopped by a light hitter.digzee wrote:Absolute rubbish, they were about even after 6 rounds. Bennie Briscoe was tough as nails. He was only ever stopped once, and he faced some of the baddest ass Middleweights that ever lived consistently. Faulting somebody for not stopping Bennie Briscoe is like saying somebody is a weakling because they couldn't crack an anvil.Kalan wrote:Hagler pretty much wrecked Hearns... Whatever he ducked Manny and Cotto when they were really hot. Straight up duckage!

Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Floyds body of work is nothing short of amazing. No one fought the caliber of opponents that Floyd fought time in and time out while retiring undefeated and almost unscathed.
Floyd supposedly ducked Casamyor and Freitas, yet he fought Corrales who beat Freitas and Casamayor and fought Castillo who beat Casamyor. So in reality Floyd fought the better of the half of those names.
Also if I remember right during the short time Floyd campaigned at 147 while Williams still fought there Williams had Quintana problems and then Williams moved up in weight immediately after he avenged that loss. The time frame in which Floyd and Williams could have happened was the narrowest of windows. Williams himself has made this clear.
I could go on and on to debunk the claims of the haters that say Floyd ducked fighters. People simply want to believe what they want with their biased opinions.

Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
As far as Margarito he was a a cheating scumbag. But instead of fighting Margarito he fought the guy who destroyed Margarito in Mosley. Again Floyd fought the man who beat the man that Floyd supposedly ducked. Arum openly admitted Cotto was too green for Floyd at 140, then in the mean time Cotto got plastered by the scum bag Margarito. Instead of fighting Margarito and Cotto he fought Baldomir who was recognized #1 welterweight in the world after beating Judah and Delahoya for the richest boxing event I need history up to that point. Again, Floyd didn't duck anyone he fought the higher ranked and more recognized figure.

he dominated the boxing match. Remember this is boxing.Jip wrote:amwsnw wrote:I agree with this but he did dominate pacquiao and canelo.Ricky_ wrote:Mayweather is an all time great without question.
He lacked that 1 definitive win though against a prime and great opponent, and had a couple of close fights/potential losses that went in his favour.
he did dominate prime canelo, which is his best win against the best opponent in his prime
but to say he dominated pacquiao is nuts. first pac was old and totaly past prime. second both didnt do anything. nobody landed anything significant and both faces after the fight looked the same like before the fight untouched. basicly most of the rounds are just 10:10 rds, were both landed air or did running and moving.
Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Mayweather landed 148 punches to Pacquaio's 81.Ricky_ wrote:He didn't dominate Pacquiao, he landed less punches and ran away all night vs a faded, 1-armed Pacquaio. As for Canelo, i'm not sure Canelo qualifies as being "great" yet, i'm not even convinced Canelo is a better fighter than Cotto. And Floyd drained Canelo.amwsnw wrote:I agree with this but he did dominate pacquiao and canelo.Ricky_ wrote:Mayweather is an all time great without question.

Mayweather is an all time great, Canelo & GGG creeping up behind. just seen that Canelo remaining at 160 on this article - http://fightcitynews.com/2017/02/23/can ... vez-fight/

What is there to "buy into" ... the actual video of the fight is widely available for anyone to watch, Pacquiao landed more punches, as per the video of the fight.tiny_acres wrote:Ricky_ wrote:The punches stats are simply wrong, not even close.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:

It's almost like you can't see what's happening right in front of you.
Re: Why Mayweather Shouldn't Be Considered An Alltime Great
Just had a look at that vid, skipped forward a bit the first punch scored for Pacquaio in round two quite clearly misses.

It scored misses for Pac and didn't score clear hits for Floyd.
