Should be a good fight. Freddy Roach trained Khan for quite a while, while training Pacquiao too. Kahn would probably know Pacquiao's fight game fairly well i would think...
Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
Even with the KO loss, Khan is a better opponent than Horn; a far bigger name and far more proven. Horn is largely unknown on the world boxing scene, and he can strengthen his case for bigger fights by defeating credible contenders.
Maybe he'll be in the running for Pac's next one anyway, although he'd Manny's lowest profile opponent in over a decade.

Do you think that makes him a worse opponent than Horn? The fight was well out of Khan's optimal weight range, and he lost to one of the best fighters in the sport. When it comes to Khan-Pac vs Horn-Pac, I can't really hold the loss against him when Horn hasn't beaten a single credible contender and is fighting the likes of shopworn Ali Funekabogan whisperer wrote:Means Khan would be fighting for a world title coming off a KO loss

Pacquiao is WBO champion. Horn is WBO #2. Khan isn't rated in the WBO top #15.Lairdy wrote:Well, why not? That ko loss was ar middleweight against a monster.bogan whisperer wrote:Means Khan would be fighting for a world title coming off a KO loss
If you were Pacquiao, and looking to fight the guy that'll bring in the most $$$. Who would you chose? A guy that is the #4 ranked welterweight on the planet, that has been in with and beaten most of the best welterweights of the last 10 years and is well known by boxing pundits all over the planet... Or a guy that is the #12 ranked welterweight, has fought no one and isn't known at all outside of Australia?
...I know who I'd choose.
That said, there is more prestige and highly likely more money in a Khan fight than a Horn fight. But going into a world title coming off a KO loss is not a good look, and not so long ago something that just wouldn't happen.
Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
Horn being the #2 ranked WBO Welterweight means pretty much nothing in this context. Pacquiao has 9 months to have a mandatory defence of his WBO title against Horn or Timothy Bradley (#1 ranked).bogan whisperer wrote:Pacquiao is WBO champion. Horn is WBO #2. He's chosen Kahn because of the money Kahn will generate, just like he'll likely chose to fight Timothy Bradley (for the 4th time) in his mandatory defense. But in saying that, Kahn will trouble Pacquiao i think.
P.s - thanks to the ranking criteria of most sanctioning bodies these days, someone's ranking in a particular sanctioning body doesn't carry much weight as to how "good" they are as a fighter. Horn is the perfect example of this.

How much weight do you think BoxRec's rankings carry? That's where you got Horn 'world' #12 and Khan 'world' #4 from isn't it.Lairdy wrote:Horn being the #2 ranked WBO Welterweight means pretty much nothing in this context. Box Rec's rankings give a much more accurate view of where fighters stand in their respective divisions.
Some of the rankings by the individual organisations are way over the top. IBF and WBO both have Horn at 2.
I think Horn would struggle to be competitive against anyone BoxRec has ranked above him.
Hats off to him if he can prove me wrong.

I agree BoxRec's rankings are worthwhile. But if people refer to a fighter as being world #12 for instance, I think they should qualify it by stating who ranks them that number. Otherwise the number is almost meaningless. The Raw Prawn wrote:Box Rec's rankings give a much more accurate view of where fighters stand in their respective divisions.

The organisations tend to exclude some fighters from their rankings even though they clearly should be top #10 in every division. It is almost like each organisation think they are their own separate little world.
Most world titles are now a joke anyway. How can there be 4 or 6 or 12 world champions at the same weight. I know NASA just found some more planets. But there is still only one world. The one we are standing on.

BoxRec's ratings are reliant on it's day to day computer upgrades and on the bouts in the BoxRec data base.
They are not influenced by subjective views or opinions.
For a full explanation see " BoxRec Ratings Description "
Fightnews currently rank Horn at a generous 16.
Do you think Horn can beat anyone in the BoxRec top 10 ?
I'd like to see him fight Kell Brook [ranked 7]

That actually is where i got them numbers from, yes. These rankings also carry a crap-load weight in regards to my opinion. As, Horn would almost be a 'snowball's chance in hell' of beating any fighter in the top 10 of the boxrec rankings.bogan whisperer wrote:How much weight do you think BoxRec's rankings carry? Anyone with an iota of common sense would understand that Horn fighting Pacquiao has sfa to do with "stepping up" and a whole lot to do with money and being in the ring with an all-time great.bogan whisperer wrote:Horn has demonstrated by wanting to fight Pacquiao that is isn't afraid to step up. Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
A lot of casual observers were talking Horn up saying he was 2 in the world. I had to explain that he was 2 in that organization but on Boxrec he was something like 12. The were talking about his last fight and saying he stopped the 8th in the world. I told them to look at Boxrec ratings and He was ranked about 79. Too many organizations and unless you follow to sport pretty diligently, they don't know. Would love to see Horn fight someone ranked top 10 in Boxrec ratings to really see where he really is. I know that won't happen cause it's all about securing a world title.
Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
I would settle for anyone ranked in the top 50 boxrec ratings. For me the jury is still out on Horn. Duco have done a great job of matching Horn with very beatable opponents. Time for Horn to really step up.bogan whisperer wrote:Horn has demonstrated by wanting to fight Pacquiao that is isn't afraid to step up. Bob Arum is still casting doubts over the validity of the UAE offer and Dean Lonergan from Jeff Horn's management company DUCO is of the same view. Lonergan had this to say >>>
"In all likelihood Pacquiao is chasing rainbows with the $38 million offer."
"We have a very substantial offer for Manny to fight Jeff Horn in Brisbane on April 23. It is real money and it remains on the table".

Not frustration at all man. I've been dealing with Danny Green (casual) boxing fans for a long time. So, i appreciate that you don't know much about boxing at all. It just makes me feel good when I know you can leave this conversation having learnt something.bogan whisperer wrote:I've learned something about you. I know it's hard for you - being a mad keen Green fan - to know anything about the boxing game because all's you know is what comes out of Green's mouth. But boxing is an amazing sport all together. And once you sit down and study it in it's professional capacity in particular, rather than have a moraless man tell you "how it is"... Your love for the sweet science will only grow.

Attention to one and all. Do not include Green nor Mundine for that matter, in this topic nor any other unrelated topic.
You'll be wasting your time doing so 'cos I'll ditch your post.
Thank you!

I like Jeff but this video to an ATG is cringeworthy. He should be grateful he was even considered and got publicity out of it. They would have to have an auto-cue card with Jeff's name on it during the 24/7 episodes so Pac knows who he is.Redback Rasta wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqSHuIRvrjg

Don't fall for the trap of thinking Manny Pacquiao doesn't know who Jeff Horn is
Pacquiao is well aware of who Jeff Horn is. He was watching videos of him back in January >>>

Manny is on board for this fight.’’
