Price will have to change trainer if he comes back

Post by TheLeprechaun »

Anyone notice Coldwell has said some pretty negative things in the aftermath?

Price has no spite, isn't a fighter etc.

Prices already low confidence will have hit the doldrums listening to that.

Not sure who would he a good trainer for him. Possibly Booth but I think I read somewhere that Booth said he wouldn't take him on

yep that was an obituary on Price's career and I am guessing that Price has enough sense to know that it's over.

I think if he lowers his sights and starts over he could still have a decent run at domestic level. The moment one of our prospects becomes British champ, suddenly the gap between that level and world title contention narrows considerably, but if Price kicks world title aspirations into touch and focuses on the domestic scene I think he can be successful. He isn't at the point where he has taken so many beatings you worry about his health, and it would be good to see him end on a high - even if that means stepping down a couple of levels. I wish the guy well.

If Price was in better shape and had worked on his stamina, he would have won his last fight. The sight of him sagging on the ropes as the referee was counting Hammer was quite astonishing.
He's never going to be a world champion but he's got the tools to be a decent domestic/European level fighter.
However, I suspect we've probably seen the last of him and I think that's a shame.

Same. Never rated Cornish. First time I watched him I thought it was a wind up! Maybe Billy Nelson has improved him?

I swear, get him a few KO wins over the usual fodder and people will be back favouring him over EBU level guys and talking of him being a risky opponent for the world champs due to his power.

I will say that he hasn't been found out at domestic level, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he could still flatten the Sexton-Cornish winner for the British. That is the level of opposition for him to focus on if he's going to continue. ..

I agree with this and would like to see him get a few wins at British level before he hangs up his gloves.

Just a thought, when people say go back to the drawing board - could he possibly go right back to the drawing board and make a stab at Tokyo 2020 - with Pro's now allowed to fight in the Olympics. What would he be 35/36.... not out of the equation.

He could always go for the shit or bust approach and have a third bout with the tiger.

Must say I was surprised to read the report of the Hammer fight in the latest Boxing Monthly - it refers to Price's jab as being 'as impressive as usual', or something similar. His jab is usually awful and he never uses it properly, just paws with it!

He's slow, much slower than a few years back and he was slow then, let's face it he's past it. Confidence shot to bits as well as his physical deterioration and lack of any engine - oh yes and that pawing jab is a joke. Apart from Tom Dallas area level blokes I'd give anyone a chance. He definitely won't match the top-end Brits like Chisora, Whyte etc, absolutely no chance. Surprised these supporters keep coming up on these threads, must be seeing something I'm not seeing.

Think they've tried but Price wouldn't move south. He's a home bird not prepared to make the sacrifices required. Lennox Lewis said the same after the Thompson rematch.

being gassed to that extent is dangerous at any level let's not forget he can hardly stand after a few rounds he could get badly hurt next time. I can't believe people are telling him to continue. He should have turned it in after the teper fight.

Price hasn't looked commanding since round 1, Thompson 1. He should have been in shape for 12 rounds against Hammer, not waddling around at 20 stone. He doesn't want to win.

We know he wont be a world champion now. That much looks clear. Should be a good chance to start again without the pressure tho. We can name all his weaknesses but as it stands hes still a 6 foot 8 bloke with a very good right hand. That had no problem knocking out domestic level. You need to give price baby steps. Every single time they stick him in with a hard match up from useless cannon fodder. Give the guy a chance.

How hard is it to progress him slowly. Getting him out often. Leaves you pulling your hair out at times. We ve always known he lacks confidence. Lets see where he can get to on a half decent run of lower level opponents. No ones saying hes gonna be much better than where hes at but for me with the right fights etc...price can take a few good decent names and make a bit of a career out of it.

I dont blame coldwell...its dangerous to try to delude people. Hes telling people what the story is...price is great in training but getting anxious when he steps up. Otherwise lets be honest we,d all be saying coldwells a terrible trainer off the back of it. Its time for price to get some home truths for his own sake imo.

Agreed, Coldwell hasn't stuck the knife in after every defeat, but at this stage and with Price so easy to stop, it'd be unfair all round to be blowing smoke and telling him to go again in the dream of a world title shot.

Get Pricey out on April 22nd on Hearns Liverpool card.
Stick him in with Lewison, Akinlade or Sprott.
Price is ko or get ko'd, hes fun to watch.
Keep him at British/Commonwealth level and he'll be fine...

He could do worse than actually do this. The frustrating thing with him is the massive breaks between fights/losses. He never gets any momentum going even when he wins a few.
