He should have taken the Dave Allen fight when it was presented. It would have given him a better yard stick and build up to fighting Hammer. He may have had a few wobbles in that fight that would have given him something to work on or made them change this pile on the pounds tactic.

Price has no spite, isn't a fighter etc.

Prices already low confidence will have hit the doldrums listening to that.

Not sure who would he a good trainer for him. Possibly Booth but I think I read somewhere that Booth said he wouldn't take him on
Isn't it funny that Price didn't used to look like Mr Blobby until he changed trainers, now Coldwell wants to hang David out to dry because he is still useless?

Price was no good when he used to come to the ring in shape, so Coldwell decided that making Price haul an extra 20 lbs of blubber around the ring would make him an even better fighter, rather than teach him how to fight & how to control his anxiety! :witzend:

Coldwell should be berating himself, not Price.

Pricey will need to get in to better shape[e if he wants to move up.

There are still fights out there for him, like Dave Allen - maybe another fight with Sam Sexton - and getting back in to British title contention.

I will say that he hasn't been found out at domestic level, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he could still flatten the Sexton-Cornish winner for the British. That is the level of opposition for him to focus on if he's going to continue. ..
Sexton? As in Sam Sexton? Is this what the British title has come to these days?
No offence intended at all to the Norfolk man, but it seems to me there’s virtually zero new blood in the sport - at heavyweight - no prestige at all. It’s become devalued. Or the other extreme is someone getting hyped up to the eyeballs after 4 fights. Do me a favour...

Stick him in with Lewison, Akinlade or Sprott.
Price is ko or get ko'd, hes fun to watch.
Keep him at British/Commonwealth level and he'll be fine...
He could do worse than actually do this. The frustrating thing with him is the massive breaks between fights/losses. He never gets any momentum going even when he wins a few.
He just has to realise his level. There's no shame in admitting you aren't elite.
Price can have a good career as a gatekeeper to the European scene. Fighting guys on the way up and the way back down.
I think he should keep plugging away...

Absolutely.

At the very least, he needs to get back into shape.

He was always in shape prior to teaming up with Coldwell & while he wasn't necessarily any better than he is now, he at least gave himself a better chance of success by not having to haul excess blubber around the ring at the same time.

He could probabbly benefit from seeing a psychologist to help with his anxiety, then, once he's on top of that, his stamina should improve too.

Getting help for mental issues, changing trainers, bulking up/slimming down, all play their part but I think in the heavyweight division few things are as good as stringing together half a dozen easy knock-overs. Yes, in a way it proves nothing but the landscape of the division, both worldwide and at British/European level, is always changing and sometimes you face ends up fitting and more highly regarded names fall by the wayside. Arguably the situation doesn't need over-analysis, he's spent half his career doing that anyway. Get a bit of weight off, and start knocking over soft opponents on undercards every month, then see where you are at the end of the year.

Unless his trainer is God Almighty, it makes no difference. He's finished.

Thing he'd benefit from most is retiring.

Some of these David Price threads are nuts.

To put it into context, I bet there is a Fury cousin somewhere who is about 15 years old, 6 foot 2 and 14 stone and he would batter Price inside or outside the ring.

The issue is that if Price ever faces an opponent who might fancy the job and will fight back he completely falls apart mentally which makes him fall apart physically.

He has to take a look at it and think that there's no mileage in getting KO'd for a living.
Much as you want to make money, having people watch you just to see you get sparked out isn't conducive to long term health! You'd make as much money doing most other things with a lot less risk. It's over.

You're being a bit silly now. He lost against Christian Hammer not Christian Bale. Knocked the Romanian down and ran out of puff because his prep was poor.

Despite losing I still think there's grounds for him to believe that he might be able to win these fights if he comes in fit as a fiddle and gets his weight down. He might be the type like Audley who genuinely needs to get sparked out of all chances until he realizes, and accepts, that he isn't good enough

Pricey really needs to quit boxing and take up a career in modelling suits for Asda.

I can't understand why putting 20lb of weight on will do him any good whatsoever, he's got a confidence issue and after hearing what Dave coldwell has said about him now on ifl tv he's goner be mentally done in, Coldwell pushed all the blame on him

This. There are some highly deluded people who seem to come out of the woodwork after every price capitulation.

Not sure if they are:

a) On the wind-up
or
b) His mates
or
c) On drugs.

Whilst I was never on the David Price World Champion bandwagon, I am one of those that believes that Price could still have some success around the British / Commonwealth level. I think I posted on another thread - really, how many David Price threads are there? - that if he drops the excess weight and takes some confidence-building fights he could possibly regain the Lonsdale belt. I think winning it for keeps should be the limit of his ambitions and if he doesn't step outside that comfort zone then he could enjoy some late career success...

I don't think this thread is nuts. I totally understand the calls for retirement, but at the same time I don't believe he's one of those fighters for whom it's the only justifiable decision.

I've been a Price sceptic from day one, and I regularly noted how people continued to overrate him after his flaws were exposed, but he's only fallen short at EBU level or above (dropping two of his conquerors) and it's not like he's now he's losing to a quality of fighter he used to beat handily. I think he could still have success on the domestic scene and I'd give him a great chance of beating the next British champ, but after all the lofty expectations does he have the motivation to continue with that level as his focus? If he does, I don't think it's necessarily a bad move for him to continue.

I've got a far fetched scenario that could work but will never happen.

Professionals are allowed to compete at Olympics now. 3 rounds and big gloves sort out his fitness and chin problems.

I personally think Frazer Clarke beats him but Price could give it a go.

Before the abuse starts I do realise this has zero chance of happening.
