Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
With wins over Mosley, Cotto, Marcos Maidana 2x and Manny Pacquiao I'd still say Mayweather has the edge for this decade up to this point, but there's some fighters that with continued success could be giving him a run for his money by the end of the decade.
Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
Floyd's resume will be hard to top, but he's only working with the first half of the decade if he doesn't fight again, and in that case most of the others will be fresher in people's memory. If GGG keeps up what he's been doing since the start of the decade, and the Golovkin mania continues to roll, I'd say he has a great chance of being the most common pick even if his record isn't the best.

Those wins would've looked a hell of a lot better had they occurred in the previous decadegilgamesh wrote:With wins over Mosley, Cotto, Marcos Maidana 2x and Manny Pacquiao I'd still say Mayweather has the edge for this decade up to this point, but there's some fighters that with continued success could be giving him a run for his money by the end of the decade.

Terence Crawford having already been widely considered the 2014 Fighter of the Year could certainly win the honors with another Fighter of the Year kinda year, and other good wins along the way.

floyd was super impressiv, from 2000-2010. his wins over mosley or canelo were big, but his close fights, holding and lots of even rounds against maidana and pacquiao take a lot away from his success. i mean, he fought the best guys no doubt, but like i said, at the end, he wasnt very impressiv.
its not just did you win, but how did you win.
crawford, if he continues his path of destruction at 147, than he ll be a front runner for "best boxer of the decade", i mean he beat good names and did it in impressiv fashion, if he can do this against spence, thurman, brook, porter, than no doubt he could be the best.
at the end i think it'll go down between loma and craw, both prime, both good opponents infront of them, both have to go up in weight to face the top opposition and that will bring the stardom. gervonta davis, mikey garcia, robert easter, thats the kind of people i hope loma will face and id favour im over all them.

Not that I would vote him, but where is Canelo?

Floyd for his early work in the decade. However, I could see Loma or GGG getting it if they pick it up.
Floyd's resume this decade has an asterix by it due to not fighting some of those big names in their prime. Mosely only won 1 of next 5 fights since losing to Floyd. Cotto had slipped quite by the time he faced Floyd. Lost his next bout decisively to Trout. I'd say his best wins of the decade came in defeating Canelo and Manny. It's enough to have him ahead for the decade so far, but I can see the likes of Crawford, Loma, GGG, and possibly Gonzo passing him up before the decade's end.

There won't be a fighter who has dominated the whole decade (well at least 7 years).
First half Mayweather without a doubt.
Second half potentially GGG, Lomachenko, Mikey Garcia, Terence Crawrford, Anthony Joshua.. even Canelo if he starts fighting proper opposition.
But no Pacman/Mayweather of the 2000s or RJJ of the 90s

Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
only based on record, it would have to be pacquiao. pac fought 1 year more and had much more fights.
he fought from 2010-2016
clottey
margarito
mosley
marquez 3
marquez 4
bradley
bradley 2
bradley 3
mayweather
that is more impressiv than what floyd did since 2010-2015
mosley
cotto
canelo
maidana
maidana 2
pacquiao
but since pac and floyd had losses, also didnt look very spectacular in some fights, that distants me from the thought that either pac or floyd are the best of the decade. loma, crawford, ggg all are in prime shape and these years they will do incredible stuff. they wont need gift descisions or pay cash judges.

Yeah, you're probably right. It's likely that I've offended some people, but I feel that the sheer volume of moronic, ridiculous and attention-seeking posts like Jip's are drowning out the small minority of quality submissions posted by people that genuinely appreciate our beloved sport.punchoutsb wrote:That was a big mistake to make.Enlightened-One wrote:This is a ridiculously silly post!Jip wrote:only based on record, it would have to be pacquiao. pac fought 1 year more and had much more fights.

If I become a hated figure amongst those that frequent the forum, because I merely stated the blatantly obvious, then so be it.

tell me exactly, why you think my post was stupid?
wasnt i right about pacquiao having the best record from 2010-2020 considering the top guys and sheer number of good opponents he faced?
wasnt i right that floyd needed bayless, arguably paid him off, so that floyd could hold and clinch all he wanted and when maidana was coming close to floyd it was "brreeeaaaaakkkkkkkk" from bayless in the second fight?
am i not right that prime loma and prime ggg could dominate the next few years and become an real option as boxer of the decade?
where exactly do you disagree with me?
Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
I don't see anyone catching up to Mayweather's accomplishments in this decade. (Which is why it'd be a lot more interesting to speculate about the next decade.) I love GGG, but he'd have to use the next three years to, I'd say, triple his 2010s resume before he'd really be near Mayweather. And Lomachenko's well below him. That he's the No. 1 choice makes me think people either think he will beat the world in the next three years, or they're basing the whole thing on the eyeball test.
Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
If the question is simply about who most people will consider the top boxer, then it's not necessarily an issue of who you think deserves it the most based on their resume. Assuming Floyd doesn't box again, he will have been inactive for the last half of the decade, and if someone like GGG continues to win, remains popular, and still gets seriously hyped, I wouldn't at all be surprised if he's fresher and more favourable in people's minds, and thus gets chosen more than any of the others.
If it's purely a resume contest, Mayweather will be tough to beat.

Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
...at this point I'll go with Mayweather's official resume..Loma, GGG having the potential provided they start/continue winning against the best available..

makes no sense.
the records of floyd and manny and what they did from 2010 till now is on, you can see it for yourself as everybody else can, how did i made something up? didnt manny has more fights than floyd in that time period? is floyd retired and manny keeps fighting to up his record?
how am i inventing stuff in my mind regarding loma and ggg, aint they the best in terms of future?
so i guess you point out the maidana-mayweather 2 fight, well than watch it for yourself and tell me if bayless was always breaking up the fight when maidana came close to floyd and bayless letting floyd clinch x times a rounds with out saying something ever.

Re: Who'll be considered #1 boxer of 2010-2020 decade?
For me it will be Gennady Golovkin.
He eill stay active & conrinue knocking boys out left, right & centre. Then eventually pick up the WBO title and be recognisrd as the Unified Undisputed Champion.
