Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
In my opinion this can wait
Wilder is right to go after the fury/Parker winner, and assuming Joshua wins, both will have two belts.
I think both should have a couple of high profile mandatory/ voluntary defenses. I'm talking, stiverne, pulev, ortiz and possibly whyte.
Then both with two belts compete To be undisputed in summer 2018 by which point both of their profiles will be sky high and lots of interest from fans. Probably a stadium fight also.
Thoughts?

Stiverne
What has this guy ever done that let's you think he's any good?

Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
Stiverne fights about as often as I do.
Bermaine is busy frying fish, didn't you hear?
Wilder-Parker would be a good fight, if Parker gets by Hughie.
I'd pick Joshua over Wilder, and see Joshua winning every round, but if it suddenly ended in Deontay's favor, that wouldn't surprise me.

Wilder strikes me as a guy that could lose almost any fight at any time.

This, AJ and his team should make this as soon as possible before someone else beats Wilder.gilgamesh wrote:Wilder strikes me as a guy that could lose almost any fight at any time.

Wilder himself said he doesn't want to fight much more; depending on the interpretation of the quote he may be retiring at the end of next year. There's no need for marination. Wilder's entire career has been marinating since 2008. This fight is absolutely one of the best most exciting matchups to be made in boxing. I hope it happens at the end of this year.

..I can relate as to why promoters might want to have it "marinated"..as a boxing fan I want to see best fighting the best and do it as soon as possible..

If that happens, AJ simply matches the guy who beats Wilder.Nightmare Roy wrote:This, AJ and his team should make this as soon as possible before someone else beats Wilder.gilgamesh wrote:Wilder strikes me as a guy that could lose almost any fight at any time.
The only reason why Wilder should lose that belt as fast as possible is because he might end up in prison with his team and all their illegal actions, bribes, mafia practices, attacks outside the ring, with the unfair help of the media and things like that. Povetkin actually deserves the belt Wilder carries for several years now.

Unbeaten WBC KO king vs Ubeaten IBF/WBA KO king sells much more, it would be a huge earner for both of them. If wilder gets beat off a Washington etc, then he wouldn't be nearly as big a fight for AJ.asdfjkl wrote:If that happens, AJ simply matches the guy who beats Wilder.Nightmare Roy wrote:This, AJ and his team should make this as soon as possible before someone else beats Wilder.gilgamesh wrote:Wilder strikes me as a guy that could lose almost any fight at any time.

I think the UK fans are simply too smart for this stuff, they want to see Povetkin/Tyson Fury/Wladimir/Ortiz, since they are actually good and not paper champions.Nightmare Roy wrote:Unbeaten WBC KO king vs Ubeaten IBF/WBA KO king sells much more, it would be a huge earner for both of them. Nope!!! Not this one.. Washington won the 1st 4 rounds off his athleticism -- but I felt that he was going to get knocked out at any time..gilgamesh wrote:Wilder strikes me as a guy that could lose almost any fight at any time.
Wilder is a terrific hitter and Washington was fighting off his back foot which makes him duck punches very awkwardly... GW is really big, tall, and strong, and has the potential to be a good puncher if he loosened up his shoulders and torso, corrected his stance, and got a good mitt man.
Wilder is not as quick as Washington, but his stance is very good and well balanced. He's always in position to knock you out if you make a mistake.. He has 38 fights and he's an Olympian.. Washington has 20 fights and his amateur experience sucks; so this was no contest in that regard. Wilder was way behind on the cards, but he was more composed and focused. He knew he was getting the opportunities to land a KO shot because Washington's defense is full of holes. DW started a right high and arched in down. Washington ducked right into it like a pitcher fooling a batter with a sinker.
Washington's best win is over the smallish Eddie Chambers who can't punch hard enough to piss. I believe it should be mandatory to beat a contender before you get a title shot. Before you put a green kid into a fight like this he has to learn how to defend himself better. If Washington got that shot on Wilder he would have stretched him -- but he doesn't have a game.
Wilder can beat Parker. He's the least skilled and most hittable Title Holder. Then I hope by the end of the year Joshua gets rid of Wilder for good.

Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
we are assuming that promoters care (or are brave enough) to build up superfights?
they aren't
its the quickest buck possible for the minimum risk....and damn the fans
when you look at the reality...its only Wlad Klitchko who is prepared to meet the best.
give him credit for that

Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
Joshua and Ortiz are prepared to meet the best... But Wladimir wasn't even prepared to meet Fury... Or perhaps you meant "willing" to meet the best.
That would be true of all 3 Heavyweights.

Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
There's a lot of assumptions going on here. There's no guarantee that Joshua beats Wlad and definitely no guarantee that Wilder beats the Parker-H.Fury winner. If I'm in charge of AJ's matchmaking and he beats Wlad, then I'd want to fight Wilder ASAP, or the winner of Wilder-Parker or Wilder-H.Fury as soon as possible. Seeing them face off against a series of has beens and never weres isn't good for the division or the health of the sport.
Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
Deontay looked sloppy again, he's among the most clinical of finishers when he has his swerve on.
Re: Joshua Wilder. Let it marinate
What's with the 2 corn row thing, he looked tired and uninterested and only opened up when he had to.
