Hughie Fury - what has he done to deserve a title shot?

Post by TopGun »

Just shows you that if you are well managed and dodge any good fighter you can get yourself into a position to fight for a world title and make millions!

Hughie has not one decent fighter on his record. Mcdermott would give Hughie a nightmare even now. Fair play to Hughie he makes a few quid but it is a con to the public. He has not even won the British title or fought a decent British prospect.

Lost a bit of respect for Peter Fury too as he has swerved a few names over here and then gives it the big one about not being able to get fights for his son and always goes on about how good Hughie is.

Anyone else with me on this or is Hughies shot at the title warranted?

Not much of note on his record, although Kassi was in good form and very arguably shouldve been coming off wins over Arreola (robbed of a win) and Breazeale (very close fight). Rudenko is a fringe contender who gave Brown far more issues than he gave Fury, and it was a solid win for a prospect, though certainly not a top level achievement.

For me he's somewhere in the top 20- 30 range, around the level of Jarrell Miller and Gerald Washington.

He was number one contender so that's why he's getting his shot. Quite how he got that ranking considering the level of opposition he was facing is anybody's guess. Seems you don't have to do anything special nowadays to get yourself a ranking! Kassi and Rudenko were decent enough wins but he body swerved Whyte for the British and that was disappointing.

I don't know why big bad John keeps being mentioned. He's not fought in about 4 years! Fury would box his head off.

I mention John because it was Tyson's fight with him that helped him step up another level, a career defining fight in a way. I think Tyson even says it was one of his hardest. He comes to mind when I think of the level Hughie is at over here and a name that I think would give him a test and Hughie is yet to have that step up fight.

Yeah but McDermott was active then. He's irrelevant now and I doubt he'd get anywhere near Hughie. I kind of get your point though :TU:

His dad is a great guy on twitter, speaks to all the fans and RTs everyone. That's how you get on in boxing, in 2017 pal.

One well known manager once told me, "Fights don't get made on Twitter". I think we can all agree I won that exchange.

I think the Fury's are losing respect, or at least they have since Tyson won the titles. A lot of bullshit coming from Peter Fury hasn't helped, not fighting Dillian Whyte was shocking. I firmly believe it's their own fault if Hughie falls short.
I like Peter too, but his quote of fighting a top 10 fighter and then subsequently facing Kassi and dodging the British was poor promotion.

Said this before and I will keep saying it. Until Hughie steps foot in New Zealand no one should assume this fight is on.

Yeah, he's done as much as brezeale did. I've no problem really. If he wins he was good enough.

I bet it was one of his hardest, he lost clearly!

Hughie has had a couple of minor tests which is pretty standard to get a title shot if you've got the right backing. Is the official line that his mysterious illness has all cleared up now?

Mate, you should be asking what Parker did to get a shot first. The highest ranked he has fought was Takem, ranked 15th at the time. Parker couldn't put him away. The rest of his fights, the guys were outside the top 50!
He got his shot against Ruiez, who was ranked 23rd at the time (I think) and it turned out a fairly close one.
Hughie fits the bill as a perfect Parker opponent if you take the above into consideration.
It will probably turn out to be a good match up for viewers. Not top shelf by any means, but it should at least be more entertaining than the last 5 Wilder fights

They sure have and he wont be the last. But its when they keep saying how they can beat everyone and have not resume to back that up....Peter Fury gets my respect until he talks about his son.

He's not really doing anything that much different than Tyson did in his career, he hardly fought the best but got his title fight & won the belt.

Over the last few years with some of the lower tier fighters getting title shots in the Heavyweight division I don't have that big a problem with Hughie getting the title fight as at least it means we'll see both Parker & Hughie in a competitive fight at last.

its not the world title

its a silly bauble

therefore he doesn't have to earn a shot at all...just get a ranking

jeez WBO have Gerber, Wallisch and god knows who else in their rankings.....in fact most of the WBO rankings have fighters who are pretty much retired.

shocking stuff

if I had to give my rankings they'd be like this

undisputed champion TYSON FURY

1. KLITSCHKO
2. POVETKIN
3. JOSHUA
4. PULEV
5. HAYE
6. WILDER
7. PARKER
8. WHYTE
9. ORTIZ
10. TAKAM

VERY LITTLE BETWEEN 3 AND 10 (INCLUDING WORTHWHILE FIGHTS)

KLIT IS CLEARLY NUMBER 1.

POVETKIN IS NUMBER 2 UNTIL SOMEONE BEATS HIM.

Which good fighter has he dodged?
You are dreaming if you think Mcdermott does not get taken to school for Hughie.
You don't have to fight for a British title to progress. Not sure why people become so hung up on that tbh.

Rudenko is a reasonable fighter, and Hughie simply had a lot of patience, on top of that, nobody who's younger achieved as much as he has.
