The quite sad undercurrent to this is that Bellew obviously thinks it is very unusual to do so and such a thought process usually comes from being brought up without your old man around.

I can well understand Haye getting vexed when he's had a fat chavvy domestic/euro level gobshite regularly insulting a man of his achievements in public for months. I only wish Haye had the confidence in his own stamina to carry this chump for a few rounds, outclassing and humiliating him and exposing his mediocre skillset before brutally KOing him
I know he gets ribbed for it but I think you're right and I think the toe had a lot to do with his confidence, probably mentally more so that the physical aspect. He was going into the fight against someone who had dominated the division, in his back yard, someone who holds all the physical advantages, and he had a broken toe, had to reduce his camp, get pain injections before the fight. It's all stuff that messes with your mind and creates doubt (he knew he had to be close to his best for that fight and knew he wasn't going in at his best) I honestly think if he had been injury free he would have shown up on the night. One thing is beyond doubt, whatever Haye does or says outside the ring, he's all business inside it.
I give Haye props where deserved, he's a natural fighter, I remember being at ringside when Carl did him, and Haye took his lumps, waving Carl in for more whilst he was taking a pasting. There's no dog in Haye at all, well, aside from the Wlad fight, but I think he was beaten before he got through the ropes, I just don't think the belief was there.
