Best Chance of an Upset
Best Chance of an Upset
Quite a few big fights coming up with a clear favourite in most.
Who (whom?) do you think has the best shot at upsetting the odds?

Either Klitschko or Khan
Neither would shock me by winning

Me being me I can see all of them producing an upset except Sosaginty wrote:Chavez might have a chance he's a lot bigger than anyone canelo has been in withlittlepug wrote:agree, everybody else has too high a mountain to climbtiny_acres wrote:Either Klitschko or Khan

It could be Joshua against Lee Selby & I'd convince myself that Selby had a chance if he 'stayed in the pocket"

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
not sure Klit beating AJ would be that big of an upset tbh...
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Probably Khan. It's clearly either Khan or Joshua either way, but I just think everything has fallen into place for Joshua. I'd actually be quite shocked if he lost, based on several factors. Wlad hasn't looked the sort to want to let his hands go against big guys who are also massive punchers. The time out has been extensive. He looked horrible against Fury and poor against Jennings which takes us back two years or so. He's old. He's away from home. And I think although he's not been tested yet, that Joshua probably is the real deal.
Of the others, I agree with the notion of Chavez being potentially intriguing just because of how big he is. Canelo has a slightly OTT reputation for me; Floyd completely destroyed him, an old Cotto have him enough problems and many thought Lara deserved at least a draw. That's two guys who started at 140 or lower and someone you'd expect, with all respects, a P4P elite level fighter to be beating. Chavez isn't much cop but the fact there were all those rumours of him fighting Froch suggests what sort of size he'll be on fight night.

I haven't watched a Pacquiao fight for quite a while. Has he really declined that much?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Khan by a wide margin.
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Much lower output and less pop in his shots
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
I'd say the best chance an underdog has is Khan vs Pacquio. Wlad is not an underdog.

No, he appears to be off the juice though. I've always thought amir could give him trouble.the peds are what made him a wrecking machine at the higher weights.Asterix wrote:I haven't watched a Pacquiao fight for quite a while. That's a bit dramatic, isn't it. The older, more experienced fighter schooled the 23 year old but destroyed. That did make me chuckle. Thanks
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Surely Joshua beating Klitschko would be the upset not the other way round!
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
I have Joshua a slight favourite based on Klitschko's age and inactivity but would not be surprised by any outcome.ste1983 wrote:Surely Joshua beating Klitschko would be the upset not the other way round!
But the bookies have Joshua as a favourite and some of the responses above agree with them.

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Khan beating Pac...actually i see it happening.
The best way to beat Khan is to bang and chin him. If not, he has amazing speed, so if the best thing you have is speed, he is already ahead of you.
Pac is ageing. I really see this happening.

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Wlad is the favourite vs AJ for me
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Was stuck between jacobs wlad and chavez so i just picked chavez
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Klitschko - AJ 45/55
Khan - Pac 40/60
Chavez - Canelo 30/70
Jacobs - GGG 20/90
Bellew - Haye 10/90
Sosa - Loma 5/95

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
1. Klitschko - Joshua still untested against top opposition, hasn't gone 12, hasn't tasted anything like Wlad's power.
2. Khan - Does well vs southpaws, Manny is on a long run without a KO, despite Amir's chin I can see this going the distance and Khan is hard to outpoint.
3. Chavez - Huge natural size advantage could be significant if he makes 164 well.
4. Bellew - May well get stopped quickest but I've got him at 4 purely because of Haye's inactivity and injuries. A Haye loss at this point is less shocking than one for GGG/Loma.
5. Jacobs - Suspect chin, hasn't shown that he's got the skills to trouble GGG. Will need a KO against a guy who apparently hasn't been down in 380+ fights.
6. Sosa - Only chance of Lomachenko losing is at 135 vs Garcia or 140 vs Crawford.
First two have a fairly good chance imo. Wouldn't be massively shocked to see either win. The others getting a win would surprise me though.

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
What's the catchweight for Chavez again? If the guy actually gets serious and isn't drained I give him a good chance. He's HUGE. Canelo is used to fighting much smaller guys. The jnr that saw the 12th against Sergio Martinez I wouldn't have as a heavy underdog against the ginger midget. Depends how motivated he is.
I might stick a bet on jnr by stoppage if the odds are good.
Like other people have said, Khan and Wlad aren't really serious underdogs. Those are competitive fights.

Interesting point about the Martinez fight actually, Martinez was never really seen as a "big" middleweight. Completely different fighters of course but I wonder how he compares to Canelo in terms of walk around weight, re-hydration weight, physical strength etc.

Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Martinez walked around 180-185.
Re: Best Chance of an Upset
Do you think Canelo would have beaten Pavlik? I personally rate Martinez much higher than Canelo but then I'm not a Canelo fan. Apart from fighting Lara and draining himself for Floyd the guy's shown himself to be a ducker and a cherry picker and you couldn't say that about Sergio.ElJefe wrote:164.5.clopixolacuphase wrote:What's the catchweight for Chavez again? On question, I expect Canelo walks around heavier than Martinez did and is probably heavier in the ring. I think Sergio probably punched harder, just based on his decapitation of Williams and the fighters he put on the canvas. He fought big guys and hurt them. Canelo has always had significant size advantage from what I know.
