Cotto v Tszyu - who wins?

Post by Mensa07 »

As much as I like Cotto I can't back anyone who has looked even a little shaky against a certified banger like Kostya. Then again how much has the pounding against Hatton taken out of Tszyu?

more to the point when is Cotto gonna stop d!cking around with fights like Malignaggi and make a move at the champ?

I'd pick Cotto over Hatton but not over Tyszu, styles make fights, it would be very close though. Just for the record, i'd take Hatton to beat Tyszu if they ever square of again.

Anyway, Cotto is not going to fight Tyszu, i'd put my house on that. Its time he and his team took some SERIOUS stick for not stepping up to the plate.

Peak Tszyu would ahve smoked Cotto wihtin a few rounds. The question is how far Tszyu has deteriorated. The beating he took from Hatton must have affected an old man.

Doubt you'll ever see Tszyu in the ring again, to be honest. Isn't he wowing the Aussies with his ballroom dancing on TV at the minute?

I still think Tszyu would KO Cotto. No way Cotto stands up to that right hand. Power is the last thing to go and Tszyu can still pick his shots and looked good in the middle part of the Hatton fight.

Styles favour Tszyu: Cotto would give him too much time and space.

Cotto wins this. Tszyu would need to be at the top of his game to beat the Puerto Rican, not on the verge of retirement and coming off the beating of his life.
And for these reasons, I doubt we'll see him fight again. Nothing to gain and everything to lose.

tszyu still had pop in his shots vs Hatton, and the guy can catch anyone at any time. Cotto's punch resistance is un-great.

Agree with this post. Although I'd give Cotto a chance to back Tyszu up, be more cautious avoid the right hand and take a UD or late stoppage.

The Tszyu of today is still better than anyone Cotto has yet to face. Hatton had the style to beat him but that doesn't mean Tsyu is completely gone at top level especially with how weak 140 is past the main guys.

Cotto plays right into the hands of Tszyu, he sits back at range and has what seems to be bad punch resistance. Cotto could box his way to a decision but he would need to be alert all night and not fall victim to any of his lazy spells. If Cotto tries to sit back like he sometimes does then Tszyu would have no problem lining up and landing those vicious right hands of his and if Torres almost had Cotto out of there (I believe Cotto would have been stopped if he wasn't a big prospect.) then Tszyu could finish Cotto. I think if Tszyu wobbled Cotto the way Torres did then Cotto wouldn't make the end of the round as Tszyu has much more experience in finishing fights and finding the killer punch. Cotto wouldn't be able to use the same tactics that Hatton used so effectively, it's just not his style.

LOL, I thinik you are forgetting that Tszyu is 36 now and is done. he had just over 2 rounds in 3 years before he fought Hatton and was coming off a career threatning injury. Cotto would play with him. Corley/judah/Mayweather/Kotelnik/Witter etc. would all beat that Tszyu.

Hilarious!

You must be joking. Witter, Corley and Kotelnik would be destroyed and I'd still give him a punchers chance against Judah. I know that Tszyu is 36 but he doesn't have a style that is demanding for his age, Hatton made him work and feel his age, Cotto wouldn't do that. You are slighting Tszyu just to discredit Hattons best win really if you think he'd lose against all those fighters. Tszyu still has his power and still can pick his shots and put more hurt on Hatton than anyone Hatton has faced and put more hurt on him than anyone on that list you gave would with the exception of the trio of Cotto, Judah and Mayweather possibly. Hell, a lot of people still theorise about a different result in the Hatton fight if it was on a different continent and he didn't suffer that low blow and if Tszyu had beaten Hatton then Tszyu/Mayweather would be on the cards right now and getting talked about as a 50/50 fight. Form is temporary, class is permanent, Tszyu does some things that you just can't teach and would leave most Light Welterweights KOed with the exception of the division top 3 which would be up to the night and the style of the fighter in the opposing corner.

Some people seem to forget that in the 6-9 th round Tszyu was coming back into the fight before the low blow, Hatton had the perfect gameplan to beat an inactive Tszyu by pressuring and holding. Tszyu would beat all the best at 140 except maybe Hatton and cotto, the other fighters mentioned wouldn't get past the first few rounds against Tszyu.

Cotto is way overatted and at his current weight is gonig to get beat very soon.

He'd still murder Witter though.
