Of course they were filmed. Why wouldn't they be??? All World Title Fights of that importance were filmed by somebody in that time period. It was routine

They were NOT professionally filmed, which is why you can't find any film of them today. I'm not surprised that you would lie to make yourself more interesting, but to lie about something like this makes you a fool. Everyone who possesses a grain of knowledge about the sport would know that these fights were not filmed. You didn't, because you know dick about boxing.

there's some reasonably well-informed talk on this thread which suggests very strongly that no official film was made and at best a bootleg of the second fight *may* have been around

jaclem knows his stuff so i would take this as fairly conclusive :TU:

And there's also this quote from an unknown Old Timer in the Fight Game taken from a movie theater in the 1950's: "I saw all the Zale/Graziano fights in the theater with a lot of my friends and this big ol' boy who would go on to become the hardest puncher in history alongside his world record level strength and conditioning. I still remember the pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, about 300 times that popcorn machine was popping out bags full of hot buttery sweetness. We rode in on our buddy big ol' buddies Unicorn that he owned. Gosh those were fun fights, except we couldn't really hear cuz our big ol' buddy kept singing North to Alaska and Sixteen Tons with this kid from the University of Kansas named Wilt."

You're spouting BS and have no idea what your talking about. Somebody always films important fights. They can be lost in some warehouse. Films deteriorate and need to be maintained. Some get beyond the stage where they can be restored. For years it was thought the 1st Giardello-Tiger fight in 1963 wasn't filmed, but they found more than one copy and it's available on youtube. It's grainy and they use a voice over. Jimmy Jacobs and Bill Cayton, both deceased, collected over 17,000 boxing films going back as far as the 19th century. Film collectors sometimes find fights that aren't in the record book.

You're making a fool of yourself now. I'm not talking about some grainy 3 minute film shot by a fan from the nosebleed section. You claim you saw both fights in a theater, so I assume they showed professionally shot official footage, right? Can you point me to one single credible source claiming such film of these two fights ever existed?

I don't know if the footage was "official" but from what I remember it was good footage. I was 7 or 8. They showed the trilogy: 3 fights, 3 KOs, with alternating winners.. The nitrate film used for 35 mm negatives and prints made before 1952 deteriorates rapidly when improperly stored.. The film can even spontaneously combust if not stored right. You can talk to any major fight collector about this and they'll tell you many fights have been lost. Even some Hollywood movies have been lost forever because they were improper stored. They're generally much more careful with expensively shot movies than old fight films.

I'm not going take the time to research who was officially contracted to film the first 2 fights. You can do that if you like.

I remember my dad drove for a long ways because he was a fight nut and hadn't seen these fights. It wasn't on a main drag. There weren't overwhelming lights or a huge crowd like many movies. The theater was thread bare, sparely seated, with maybe 200 to 300 dyed in the wool fans. This particular show didn't feature any contemporary fights, just historical fights. Closed circuit viewings of live fights in those days were generally packed and in the better locations.

Wherever it was, it was urban renewed a long time ago. JACK DEMPSEY'S doesn't exist anymore and it was a lot more popular than that theater looked.

Right... loads of sod on the driveway for whatever reason -- and a guy in bad need of a haircut with skinny arms and a cheap weight lifting belt.

He's not even shoveling it -- which would be a duplication of your efforts.
