I used to love watching this lil fella with a big heart, scary in the square circle but a gent out of it, anyone know what he is up to now?

Must be in his 60s now

Was a good watch. Was it not him who gave Derry Matthews his first loss? Knocked him down a good few times. I remember Willie Limond beating him years ago.

Fan friendly personality, fan friendly fighting style and a great back story - I always thought he would be a promoters dream.

I think he signed for Fish Eyes after winning Prizefighter but he just disappeared, then had a few fights/losses and retired.

It was a great shame, surely a top promoter could have taken him on and made them both some money?

He sparred Naseem and came to the attention of an American promoter who wanted him. But he was tied up with a contract and personal loyalty and wasn't able to take the opportunity.

I suppose yes, he held his ground, a lot of sparring partners didn't last more than a couple of rounds, I remember Choi was keen to come back every day.

Used to train at the same gym as him when he was with Spencer Fearon and he literally had me awe. He trained so so hard after spending two hours stretching/meditating first. He would then spend time with myself and other novices just giving up tips and advice on the bags, pads etc.

122lbs, claimed silver at world and Olympics, U.S. Based, tough, heavy hands, impressive skills, can box brawl or bang and proved he can do 10 rounds

I remember Choi

Interesting, I've just been discussing the first man to beat him, Veeraphol Sahaprom, might see if I can find that one to watch. He was also the first to beat Derry Matthews, I'd bet that would be entertaining

But it was the prizefighter tournaments that brought him to my attention and the residing memory was the fight in Glasgow with John Simpson, I'd looked forward to this one, both of them liked to get in a scrap. Pleased to see Johns last good win and not see him on the wrong side of a close decision

Also good to see Burns win that night through pure heart (and very little else)

Sahaprom is the most skilled Thai I've ever seen and is vastly underrated with a bloody4 fight rivalry vs future champ Nishioka that compares with the Marquez-Vazquez battles (difference being all 4 Veeraphol v Nishioka delivered, whereas Marquez-Vazquez 4th fight was a waste of time). One of the most complete fighters I've seen in the modern era.

The Choi fight was on YouTube last time I checked. Choi kept trying and looked the stronger man but was out boxed by a still developing, pre prime Sahaprom.

I remember reading they did have a hard time getting him fights as he was such a handful.

Never in a dull fight either, I remember watching the Mathews fight on itv and he just tore right through him. It was quite a shock at the time.
