2 pounds of muscle in a month would be terribly difficult, if not impossible for most especially given the style of training a boxer should be performing. I would agree with you that he looks to be a little over 20%. Given his weight, that would put him at a fighting fight weight of a little below 86 kg.
but that is what i mean, he couldn't put that weight on in muscle in such a short time , hence he will look fat
Gotcha :TU:

In that case it would've been better for him to not put on weight at all. It's better to be the smaller man then to be the smaller man who gained some jiggly fat. It won't help him at all.

Yes, what's the sense in having useless lard added. Surely he'd have been better off coming in lean and light if anything.

thing is punch ,bellew isnt really that much heavier, than he would be on fight night at cruiserweight unless he bangs on more weight after the scales which i doubt , so i think he will be find to go the distance

Oh I don't doubt he's fit enough to go the distance (though he won't be against Haye anyway), I just don't like the old adage that boxing isn't a physique contest. It isn't and well all know that, but rarely do big fat guys do well because they lack the discipline needed to do well. Being in shape isn't necessarily reflected by the physique in terms of this sport, but with good performance based nutrition and hard training a lean, muscular physique with lower levels of bodyfat is a guaranteed side effect. If that physique is not present then that fighter is skimping on one of those two things. And if a fat guy can go twelve rounds and perform to a certain grade, how much better *could* he have done if he didn't have useless adipose literally hanging off his body?

You need to ask Penfold - he thought Price was better with an extra 2 stone of it.

Precisely. It's not about looking like a bodybuilder, but Bellew looks like he works in a frigging chippy, and helps himself to all the scraps. There's no upside to having extra body fat.
