Lack of Competitive Fights on the Haye vs. Bellew PPV Card?

Post by Enlightened-One »

During December last year, I created a thread discussing the perceived lack of “competitive” fights on the Joshua-Molina PPV card, which was based on the betting odds of each bout that took place.

When I carefully used the word “competitive”, it was in the context that the winners of nearly all of those bouts were very easy to predict, since they were previously the overwhelming betting favourites. So my sentiments were less about excitement and enjoyment of the fights themselves, but primarily focussed on how likely the betting favourites would emerge victorious.

Anyway, I successfully predicted the winner of nine out of the ten fights on the PPV fight card… and only a desperate last round (behind on the scorecards) Buglioni KO victory over Burton deprived me of a perfect 10/10.

Now that all of the fights on the Bellew-Haye PPV have been announced, I’m going to attempt to repeat my previous success by boldly predicting the winners of all the fights, even though some of the opponents haven’t even been officially announced yet.

So here’s a list of the confirmed fights/fighters that we’re scheduled to see:
• Tony Bellew vs. David Haye
• Sam Eggington vs. Paul Malignaggi
• Ohara Davies vs. Derry Mathews
• Lee Selby vs. Andoni Gago
• Ted Cheeseman vs. Jack Sellars
• Katie Taylor vs. Monica Gentili
• David Allen vs. David Howe
• Craig Glover vs. Jake Bonnalie

Here are my predictions for the eventual winners of the bouts listed above:
• David Haye
• Sam Eggington
• Ohara Davies
• Lee Selby
• Ted Cheeseman
• Katie Taylor
• David Allen
• Craig Glover

Thoughts? :-?

Edit: Updated the fight card

The only competitive fight on the card for me is Eggington vs Malignaggi. Size vs skill. Youth vs experience. Intriguing!

Agreed. I think Eggington wins a very close decision.

Everything crossed that Derry has one last hoorah and takes Davies' chin for a spin :bag:

I've been correct about my predictions so far - a win for Cheeseman.

its not a great card. but there is some tension between lots of opponent and thats good. also i am totaly focused on the main event. bellew will get back to reality. difference between a solid and a great boxer.

Another prediction correct - a far too easy mismatch type victory for Selby, which came against an overmatched opponent with a very unusual physique, since I haven't seen that many fleshy 128lb-ers with large wobbly love handles.

I'm not sure why the ref or the cornermen of the unathletic Gago didn't stop the fight sooner.

Another three correct predictions - victories for Glover, Allen and Davies. :TU:

One can argue that Haye-Bellew is not competitive. Bellew got stopped at LH. He has no business being in the ring with a Heavyweight puncher like Haye.

True, which is why Haye is fighting him.

Another correct prediction - Eggington wins.

So far, I've correctly predicted the outcome of all the undercard fights.

I'm actually astounded that someone is able to predict big favorites like this! If haye wins it will be an incredible performance of prognosticating by a complete imbecile.

Says the bumbling idiot that always calls himself an expert?

I like these all day UK cards. Hell, I'd have bought this for $15. We get 4 fights for $70.

Haye looks like he's been fighting on a broken ankle for the last 6 rounds. Bellew somehow can't stop him. Haye can't even move.

Hate is finished.
His body & mind can no longer withstand the rigors of a competitive fight. He'll definitely come to regret taking those three years off in what should have been the near prime of his career.

He had shoulder surgery and had to recover. Something to bear in mind with your comments. His body appeared to be giving up well before this fight.

I successfully predicted the outcome of sixteen of eighteen of the last two Matchroom PPV's and only a last round behind on the scorecards one punch KO and an achilles heel injury prevented me from being 100% correct.

For the record, I'm absolutely delighted that the Haye-Bellew fight was exciting enough to justify the price I paid to watch the event on Sky Box Office.

Regardless, I justified the point I made by being 89% correct in my predictions of the outcome of eighteen fights.

Did anyone else do better?
