And trash about Bellew out-hearting Haye? Utter nonsense....Haye was winning clearly until he sustained/aggravated the injury. Tony took his shots well and did what he had to do, but without that injury I think it's very unlikely that he wins.
I'd also add, Haye showed tonight that he is past his best. Injury aside he should have put him away and the old Haye would have

However, I will credit Bellew for performing better than I thought he would/could

It was a pathetic fight, a farce, neither man come out with credit. Haye conned us all with carrying an injury, Bellew couldn't finish a man barely able to walk.

Sure, he was 70 years old, had Parkinson's disease, was sitting in his chair not expecting it and looking the other way at the time but who cares - that's his problem. I did what I had to do.
This result seems to have really stung you. Brace yourself for more painful nights if Haye continues.

I don't give a damn either way for Haye. I just can't understand how people can't see what's in front of their faces.
I think we've probably been spoilt with heavyweight heroics. Tommy Morrison splattering Joe Hipp in spite of two broken hands and a broken jaw. Danny Williams whacking Potter with his arm dangling out of its socket. Ali throwing through the 'black lights.' Haye is a very hard man but there's a bit of the self-preservation sick note about him, which while entirely sane is not what people want from their heavyweight warriors.

Both men also sold a turkey, over-hyped and acted their way through the build up

but then neither will go down in anyone's estimation, as we knew they were both a pair of showmen and this fight was a bit of a farce.

I just tuned in to see Bellew get splattered and for not delivering that, both men go down in my estimations further still

I'm not really concerned with that either. In terms of the result, Haye simply wasn't able to compete due to injury. In a team sport you would just bring on a sub.

If Andy Murray got an injury like that and lost to a guy ranked 100 in the world because he couldn't run, nobody would say it was a triumph for the ranked 100 in the world guy. It's just a thing. It's disappointing, it wasn't a proper contest, it happened. move on. Haye's bravery or otherwise is neither here nor there

Agree with this to be honest. It's just a let down, a disappointment. Bellew can't really claim a major victory, but Haye doesn't come out of it well either. Just seems like 36 year old past his prime, too injury prone so should retire. Did well to milk another £4m PPV out of us lot but please God let that be the end of it.

I couldn't believe they were trying to sell the rematch in the ring. Then Hearn talked about Parker and Wilder for Bellew!

I think some posters are doing the fight a disservice, sure the build up was flannel, sure the injury had a major impact but lets look at the facts, Haye got badly injured then just went hell for leather like a madman trying to end it there and then because I'm sure at the moment the Achilles went he knew it was now or never and feck did he go for it, he could've thought "i'll make it to end of the round but sh1t no way can I continue, everyone can see its genuine" but he went for it and right there the fight really started, at first he was wild and desperate then he settled down and you seen him try to work for his openings, he was still looking to win, we've seen fighters hurt in the past and do very well to make it to the end but Haye was still totally switched on, so mentally strong and it was Bellew who started to look desperate and tired as Haye timed his attacks<David's body just let him down

And Bellew could've coasted the last few rounds and picked Haye off but he pressed the stoppage even though tactically he shouldn't have so both guys cant be faulted IMO and considering more than half of the fight one man was one legged, I thought it was class and way better than I would've imagined

What you're saying isn't wrong. But Haye was still below par prior to the 6th round and Bellew still couldn't finish a cripple

Don't get me wrong, you can flip that on it's head and credit Bellew for surviving the first 6 and then winning the fight and you can give Haye plaudits for courage but the simple facts are, both men are a way short of world class now and I certainly would not like to see either in with the very best at heavyweight

I think you're definitely looking at this in rose tinted glasses mode. Haye was fucked from the injury, absolutely fucked. You could see the moment it happened the fight was over. Everything after that was pure desperation from Haye and inability from Bellew to put the poor man out of his misery.

Bellew got away with that one, a depleted Haye still was winning on power jabs alone, a crocked shoulder, 15lbs too heavy and a niggling Achilles and he was still winning, albeit in a poor fashion, never the less the injury changed the fight FACT. The knockdowns were mainly balance issues exaggerated by Bellew smothering Haye on the ropes.

I just cannot fathom how Bellew can come out of this bout with people waxing lyrical about his performance, in fact I find it quite sad that we have to see a British boxing great go out like this, yeah Bellew took his licks and stayed in there but he's just as money hungry as Haye, and tonight showed everything wrong with British boxing and the culture of fans (not aimed solely at casuals) the card was a sham, Hearn will never entertain that the injury changed the fight, merely that Bellew has more heart (only one man had the heart of a lion in there) and we'll be served up more shit like that. What's fornicating next Bruno verse Ovid Mckenzie.

I genuinely don't mind Bellew, tonight's events were a sad affair for all involved

Agree mate, it's sad to see a guy liek haye with a decent career behind him (pre Klitschko) go out like this. He probably deserved better overall, but should have stayed retired. When the body tells you it's over, it's over.

I'm not saying he wasn't fvcked I'm saying he was fvcked makes his efforts all the more admirable, if Haye went into the fight injured which I'm sure he did, it might explain why his left hand was wild and he was relying on the left leg too much to pivot leaving his balance off because he couldn't spring the right foot onto the left accordingly to get the left off fully, I assume it was a tactic by Haye and his team to work on the left hand, if Haye wanted to get his big right off then he would have to be inside to rely on the left leg for structure(sorry cant think of the proper word) Haye had to do all his work inside really to be effective but Bellew moved away well

My boxing experience is near zero so I might be wrong with what I said there

People seem to be disregarding his career off the back off this, it's fairly well known or suggested that Haye is broke, shows what little support there is for fighters post fighting.

But the pictures of Haye being helped out of the arena were truly sad, not felt this level of deflation than after round one of Manny/Floyd knowing he had no chance

The injury could have been there from the start, but the whole fight was dictated by that injury and nothing else. Haye's timing was out through inactivity and was wild with his punches, but Bellew just sat back trying to avoid shots and make the odd counter. Haye was starting to cut the space a bit when his leg went completely in the 6th round, leaving him without any weaponry and virtually a sitting duck.

Yet it was presented as if Bellew beat Haye fair and square and knocked him out, which was laughable lol. Haye couldn't punch after the 6th and literally couldn't move and became a virtual punch bag. Yet all Bellew managed to do was punch himself out. Then it got all extremely weird at the end with Haye saying " the better man won " and i'm thinking " what are you on about david ". Then Bellew doesn't mention the injury either and claims victory as if it was all down to him lol.

Its the strangest set of interviews i think ive seen in boxing, where no acknowledgement was given as to the reason for the result. Haye's leg, knee, ankle etc completely gave way, rendering him totally useless and Bellew won because of it. Then you had Joshua acclaimed as the saviour of boxing, when he's had 18 fights and fought nobody of any note and Katie Taylor as the main undercard after having two pro fights and fighting an inferior fighter. It was all so cringy.

If that's the best they can offer up, then god help them lol, but at least don't try and insult the watching public's intelligence and try say it as it is, with some sense, logic, reason and truth. That was almost akin to the story about the emporers new clothes. It was bizzare to listen to. I think they should have got Carl Froch to do the latter interviews, not Joshua and Nelson, because they just didn't seem capable of calling it as it was. Farcical really lol.
:TU:

I'm glad some people see it for what it was. I'm actually embarrassed by it all. It all seems very 1990's Germany for me. Sven Ottke beating a handpicked numpty with the pundits towing the line. Pathetic. Lost a lot of respect for a lot people tonight, Haye included.
Absolutely agree mate. The pundits seemed to have totally swallowed the narrative that Bellew outclassed Haye, was the better fighter and deserved to win the fight. The analysis of the fight was comical to listen to and embaressing. It show's a complete lack of respect for the paying public to totally ignore the main factor that decided that fight and play it out as a Bellew victory that was well deserved. Even Haye went along with it all in some bizzare fashion. It literally was cringy to listen to and i was listening to it thinking " isn't anyone going to at least attempt to come someehere near the truth ". It seems as if money is the sole factor in these fights and the pundits are paid, not to give an unbiased and truthfull account of the fight, but to follow a narrative set by sky sports and essentially tow the line. It was comical to listen to, depressing and quite sad to see how far things have fallen in boxing. Hype over quality and rhetoric over reality. At least reading some of the comments, its nice to know that i wasn't the only punter who thought it was a load of BS.

I had Haye 5-0 up before his leg crumbled.

Wasn't scoring after that but i'm thinking there could be a case for a round or 2 for 1 for the cripple. Bellew wasn't doing much, didn't have enough power to hurt Haye, his best shots only buzzed him for a second. Because Bellew didn't have a finish in him he was weary of walking into a wild hail mary Haye kept trying.

I agree with the poster above... Haye could easily 12-0 Bellew in a rematch just by jabbing him, Bellew really offers no threat to Haye and shouldn't be sharing a ring with a good heavyweight.

I think a bit of credit to Haye too. I heard rumurs on Tuesday he was going to pull out with injury. He's plighted by injuries and made to look a joke with his pullouts over the years. I think tonight he thought he could beat Bellew easy even with an underlying injury and took a gamble he wouldn't have took with a legit opponent like Fury. He was damned cause he did and would've been damned if he didn't.

Based on what exactly? I'm seen or heard zero evidence of that and find it pretty implausible to be frank. i know he lost some money in a gym venture here, but there were other investors so I'm not sure on the level of personal exposure.
He's earned well from his fights, sponsorship and TV, and I'd genuinely be shocked if he's burnt through it all. Though if he has, I wouldn't include him in the ranks of fighters who need or deserve support post-career.
