I've never been of the opinion that he was a bottle merchant.

He was pathetic against Wladimir & his excuse afterwards was embarrassing, but I think it was more out of saving face than anything.

However, his HW career has been one of the most cynical I can think of & there was a reason why his comeback opponents were clinically dead.

David Haye looks body fantastic, but he's a hollow shell now.

Injury or no injury, he is finished at the highest level & he knows it.

He is only interested in paydays now & I can't see much of a future for him.

Even if he continues, it will be 2018 before he fights again & he will be pushing 38 & the HW division is leaving him behind.

He is yesterday's man & he should stay that way.

PS: Well done to Tony Bellew.

I thought he was out of his depth & I really thought that he wouldn't be able to survive a Haye onslaught, but I didn't bank on Haye being so far gone.

Yes I'd have to agree, he has his time, and as it turned out, it was several years ago now. Haye could bowl over tomato cans into his 40's, but I can't see him beating even a wild brawler like Wilder now, and certainly not AJ.

I think he'll have to accept that the multi millionnaire lifestyle is a thing of the past, as I don't see any more big paydays. He's out for a year with a torn achilles, at his age, and with such a long career already behind him in the sport, time to call it a day I think.

I think mostly Haye deserves respect for trying to desperately finish the fight immediately after his foot went, I was wincing all the way through that.

As far as staying in there afterwards, Bellew didn't show a great deal of power or skill so there wasn't a great deal to fear once things settled back down, other than a worsening of the injury.

Fully agree. I thought Haye showed the heart of a lion in there last night. I was screaming the house down when he knew his leg had gone and poured all that he had in him to finish it. Knowing that he stood no chance when back in his corner at the end of the 6th, it was sad to see him hang tough for the next 5 rounds.

He is shot though. He was crap before the leg went properly and he was there for the money and it was a pretty cynical job all round from Haye. ( he should not have been in there at all) respect his bravery though.

For a long time I've rated Haye lower than most and Bellew higher than most.

Like I've said recently: "I still think that there is a good chance that Haye is a shadow of his former self. The only world level win that he's had in the last 6.5 years is against Chisora and how highly does anyone on here rate Chisora?".

Bellew is the WBC cruiserweight champion and isn't that much smaller than Haye. Haye was never a phenomenal heavyweight and he's not done anything decent in years.

I don't think that Haye is the monster that most people seem to think he is. Haye's fast and powerful, but there's a good chance that Bellew can stand up to it for longer than people think.

If Bellew can land a few times then old, inactive Haye could be in trouble, especially after the first few rounds.

I've seen Daffy fighting against Mark Dummery or whatever his name was and also against the worm or however he calls himself.
Daffy was absolutely trash, so it's not that odd that a good cruiserweight can handle him is it?

Some people seeing tonight's fight as another example of Haye 'conning' the fight fans out of money. But I was actually impressed with his heart and grit.

I'd never questioned Haye's heart. If anything, my respect for Belle has increased.

Yeah you have to wonder how bad the injury was going in there. He was winding up his shots like a man who suspected he couldn't do 12 rounds. In a way he was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. If he'd pulled out, nobody would ever have bought a ticket to see him again.

Not only did Haye fight on with a torn Achilles, which in itself is unbelievable let's be real, anybody who's done this injury will agree. Footballers are strapped to a stretcher with oxygen ffs!

Haye took Bellew's punches, he even came forwards at times trying to force the fight

He walked out of ring on his feet

He was gracious in defeat

He beat the count, and would most likely have made the final bell

And he walked out of the arena. He was not going to be seen being carried out


It was self-punishment for Haye last night. There was no way he was staying down.

So you did. And I've just seen that a few others predicted an injury before the fight; we all suspected the shoulder, though. As soon as Haye came out of his dressing room I was worried by his demeanour, and if I could've cancelled my bets at that point then I would've.

Respect went through the roof to be honest, couldn't believe he was fighting on. If that had been Arturo Gatti in his day people would be talking about his bravery for years to come. Hopefully Haye won a lot more fans even though he lost the fight.

No need to apologise for getting a prediction wrong.

Predictions are either wrong or right.

It was not an unreasonable to prediction to say that that Bellew was out of his depth & get wiped out.

Bellew had never fought at HW before & although Haye was largely 'unknown' due to his inactivy, surgery & poor comeback opposition, no-one could have known how far Haye has gone back.

Right there Tony Bellew pretty much summed up the whole thing. David Haye PICKED tony bellew as his opponent in this pantomime and who better to go along with it.

His whole comeback has been carefully orchestrated, geared up to this one final payout. He know it and I think Tony bellew, Hearn et al were happy to go along with it.

I was amazed at the weigh in when he was booed, at the venue he was booed relentlessly and I see twitter and forums ripping him to shreds.

Before the weekend I did not get it and as a fan remembering the cruiserweight days and how he took on tough challenges from the start impressed me. He was the anti-Audley who was on BBC at the same time making a mockery of things. So lately, I did not understand all the animosity towards him although understood toe-gate and the pull outs irking some.

BUT I went to the weigh in and watched his attitude and arrogance, chatted to Bellew, Dillian, Johnny Nelson, Adam Smith, Clifton Mitchell and a lot of security guys and found a real dislike by people who actually know him. I could see why. On the flipside, Tony is the only UK fighter I had a real dislike for from the interviews, but watched him stay after the weigh in, chatting to fans until no more than four or five were left, I became a convert.

THEN I saw Haye prove mettle and heart so although I now think he is an arsehole of a person, fully respect him as a fighter and thought he may bring back some respect generally but was then amazed to hear him booed to the heavens after the fight. What does it take to get respect?

A podcast I listen to from another sport had a guy say that on social media and this modern age you could save a granny from a burning building and someone will still call you a c**t.
