Katie Taylor , Just turned me

Post by coneye »

I will admit , I never really liked womens boxing , I've never seen Katie Taylor Box before , simply because i don't like womens boxing .
The reasons are varied .
1--- Always felt if women want to fight just get married ,
2-- Don't believe in teaching women how to smack the hubby around when he comes in pissed ,
3 And probably the main reason , I'm a bit old fashined and believe women or rather girls shoild be in pink dresses playing with dolls , and when there older bringing up children and cooking buiscuits for there kids .

OK ok , i'm a male chauvanistic pig , but heh , you are what you are and i'm old fashioned .

But i've changed . ive seen the light , and all because of one woman Katie Taylor , was i impressed by her , she is going to be a star , Not because she's a woman who can fight , But she can BOX ,, what a terrific left hand she has , her distancing was perfect , her delivery was excellent , and the way she mixed the punches up was tremenous , hats off to Katie Taylor she just won me over

Also i think its worth mentioning , the IRISH TRAINERS ,, the last few years we have seen a lot of real good irish boxers both ameteur and pro ,, and i don't think its just a lucky run the kids coming out of Irland in the last few years have been very well schooled so , You Irish trainers , take a bow ,,

And well done Katie Taylor

You know it's still possible for a woman to do extreme stuff and still be feminine? My wife has given birth to 4 kids, bakes cakes, does the washing, ironing and general household chores, wears dresses with floral patterns on yet she's a black belt in some martial art(Jiu Jitsu I think) and she can be seen blasting a Yamaha R1 through the streets.

I don't mind womens boxing being on the card, but main support is pushing it massively. It was basically a propsect vs journeyman type fight, not worthy of main support and offensive to some of the decent guys who fought earlier to a half-empty arena.

I cant see it myself, woman topping a big show but it takes 2 to tango and if Taylor can find an equal then who knows what can catch the publics imagination, the UK has no accounting for getting sucked into a hype machine

I followed her as an amateur too. I like combat sports, and she's going to be a VERY good combat sports athlete.

I don't like Women's boxing because the skill in Women's fighters is few and far between. Every now and then there's one Woman boxer with legit talent, but there's never anybody for her to compete against because every other woman in the division can't fight and isn't half as technically refined as her.

There was only ever one Women's Boxing match I had interest in seeing and that was Laila Ali vs Ann Wolfe. Laila ducked Ann and didn't want any part of her, and that set the tone for the rest of Women's boxing in my mind. The one time a meaningful fight comes along for Women's boxing it doesn't happen....what's the point?

It wasn't the chief support, Eggington Malignaggi was. It was the live float & if everything went the distance, it was possible that it went in after the main event

It's like shoving a women's football match in the middle of Super Sunday and expecting everyone to love it and get dead interested/excited. You can't force people to be interested and you can't blag people that they're seeing something of a good level of sport when they're not. Sorry.

Taylor is quite good yep, that's about it so far. Stick her on the undercard at 8-9pm-ish and build her up if you must, fair enough, but women's pro boxing really does suck at this moment - it holds little to no interest for me.

Does it not do your nut in that you announce all night then Buffer slides in at the back post and snatches the big fight? Have you never been tempted to slip something in to his tea :OhYes:

Her problem will be lack of competition.

Laila Ali had a similar problem during her time; she could fight, but most of her opponents couldn't

Been a fan of hers since the Olympics when she won gold :TU: I think she'll become the world's champion and the biggest name in women's boxing, which will be quite the feat considering Clarissa Shields is so tremendously popular too.

Clarissa Shields will fly the flag for Womens boxing in the States, Taylor will do it in Europe. One thing is certain though, when Taylor fights for the World title eventually it will take serious money for the fight not to be in Dublin.

Con,

No disrespect to Irish trainers but Katie's main trainer was her dad, who's from Leeds.

In fact, many said that she would have won a 2nd Gold if he was still in her corner in Rio (although he said otherwise).

But I think they're estranged at the moment.

No, mate. She's a proper Paddy. Her dad moved to Bray to work on the arcades at the beach. He'd boxed back in Yorkshire & taught her. She was boxing from the time she was walking.

Again, I'm not disrespecting Irish boxing or trainers etc but she's a product of her dad wanting her to box from a young age. Shame they don't get on now.

I've never really been in female boxing either. It just shows how good a promoter Eddie Hearn is that we're talking about her.

But as others have said, the pool is very shallow.

 it doesn't do my nut in Stuarty, obviously I'd rather do the main event too but Buffer is a global boxing brand, I'm not. We actually get on really well & he's been supportive in the time that I've known him. He put out a nice tweet about me when I did Crolla Linares. He's a good guy.
