Bellew suggesting he might quit now
Bellew was interviewed live on morning TV today and suggested he might hang up his gloves. Says he doesn't think he can put his body and family through it all again and he has achieved everything he wanted. He isn't going to earn big money going back to cruiser and unless he gets a big PPV fight at heavyweight maybe a good time to hang his gloves up.
Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
I would guess he could get at least 500k from another cruiserweight defense now that his stock has risen. Maybe not superfight megabucks, but would surely be tempting.

That wouldn't be a lot after tax, expenses etc...Benelio wrote:I would guess he could get at least 500k from another cruiserweight defense now that his stock has risen. Maybe not superfight megabucks, but would surely be tempting.

There is possibly movie work for him. He will be big bucks on reality tv, Jungle, CBB etc etc. Plus Creed 2.
Saying that if I was him I would jack in the WBC cruiserweight title and just keep crying out AJ. Its a fight fans would buy into. 1 megabuck fight away from retirement.

He has already said he wouldn't fight AJ, he said it before and after the fight. Says AJ is too big for him. I can't see that generating much interest eithermimmy123 wrote:There is possibly movie work for him. He will be big bucks on reality tv, Jungle, CBB etc etc. Plus Creed 2.

Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
I dont know, I see Bellew as the casual fans family man type sportsman. The sportsman who has heart and desire. I dont think the casual fans have disrespect for Bellew. I think his fan base will grow from that fight, and yes AJ is possibly too big but dangle 5 million in front of him!!!Controversial wrote:He has already said he wouldn't fight AJ, he said it before and after the fight. Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
He'd be utterly bonkers to quit now.
He could set himself up for life by fighting in either a rematch with Haye or in a big heavyweight clash with Joshua or Wilder. He should forget defending the cruiserweight title. No point whatsoever in earning half a million for that when he could easily make £5m plus in a big heavyweight fight.

He did say that if it wasnt for the missus and kids he wouldnt fight,he has secured his kids future and is comfortable, has a job with the matchroom bullsh*t brigade on the adam smith show so good luck to him,he has taken some stick in the past on here some called for some not called for but now he has made it,he is a former british/c'wealth and European champion,he has the green strap and is now a multi millionaire,iv got nothing but respect for him if he decides calls it a day. I will just have to find another bixer to slate on here lol. Well done bomber enjoy your retirement
Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
If I were him I'd be calling out Joshua if he beats Wlad. Yes, he'd probably get done in a couple of rounds but so what?! He's probably got a couple of million in the bank now. He could multiply that by 3 or 4 by taking a fight against AJ which would undoubtedly sell out Wembley Stadium once Hearn has hyped it up.thechump wrote:He did say that if it wasnt for the missus and kids he wouldnt fight,he has secured his kids future and is comfortable, has a job with the matchroom bullsh*t brigade on the adam smith show so good luck to him,he has taken some stick in the past on here some called for some not called for but now he has made it,he is a former british/c'wealth and European champion,he has the green strap and is now a multi millionaire,iv got nothing but respect for him if he decides calls it a day. Tony is a boxing fan through and through and his knowledge about the sport is unreal. I think if he hangs them up he'll have a cushy number calling fights for Sky for the rest of his days.

Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
Great comeback opponent for Fury. Easy win for Tyson. Bellew wouldn't land a punch.
Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
The size difference would be utterly farcical but Bellew wouldn't be in as much danger of getting seriously hurt given that Fury isn't a huge puncher. It'd be so one-sided though!mickey1975 wrote:Great comeback opponent for Fury. Easy win for Tyson. Bellew wouldn't land a punch.
Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
He has a number of options inc. retirement. It sounds like he hasn't decided which path to take yet. I'd be surprised if he retired now but we'll see

He'd be utterly bonkers to go in with Joshua or Wilder regardless of the money.SteveDow wrote:He'd be utterly bonkers to quit now.

Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
Why? Haye hits at least as hard as both of them and he went in with him. A fit Haye is also a better fighter than both of them in my view so I don't see AJ or Wilder as any more dangerous than a fit Haye would be. Plus he'd probably get twice the money, certainly for an AJ fight.banjo wrote:He'd be utterly bonkers to go in with Joshua or Wilder regardless of the money.SteveDow wrote:He'd be utterly bonkers to quit now.

He shouldn't retire.
Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
I think Haye is a shot fighter regardless of how hard he hits. AJ and Wilder are physically at the peak. Bomber himself is no spring chicken 34/35 years old and has some really tough fights behind him.SteveDow wrote:Why? Haye hits at least as hard as both of them and he went in with him. Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
I bet you weren't saying that before Saturday. The point is that he was willing to go in against what he must have thought would be a fully fit Haye and so I don't see why, given the huge money that would be on offer, he would necessarily be too scared to face AJ or Wilder. Just for the record I think he'd get stopped by both but that would certainly have also been by far the most likely outcome against Haye as well had he not been injured.banjo wrote:I think Haye is a shot fighter regardless of how hard he hits. Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
Youre right i wasn't saying that but i had no idea of his condition. Saturday proved his body is broken after yet another injury, remember he retired from injury and we supposed to believe its healed. He looks a shell of the fighter he was 5 years ago. I thought he'd beat bomber simply because I don't rate Tony that highly. He failed in title bids at Light Heavy and I think he's the least impressive Cruiser champion out there.SteveDow wrote:I bet you weren't saying that before Saturday. Re: Bellew suggesting he might quit now
I agree with everything you're saying on Haye but Bellew couldn't have known about his condition either. Anyway, it's ultimately up to him what he does but passing up a chance to earn £5m plus seems too good an opportunity to miss in my view. It's not like Bellew has multi-millions in the bank.banjo wrote:Youre right i wasn't saying that but i had no idea of his condition.
