who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin or triple G as many fans know him by has been on the scene since 2005 and in 11 years he has acccumulated a record off 36-0 with 33 knockouts.
he holds the highest knockout ratio in middleweight boxing history with a 92% ratio and has been a world champion for 7 years with 17 defences and for 22 straight fights his opponent hasnt heard the final bell.
as of today his the unified WBA (super) - WBC - IBF - IBO middleweight champ but in some fans eyes he is yet to have a carrear defining fight against a opponent who can really test him in the ring.
he is a master of cutting the ring off and applying pressure to his opponent he has fantastic balance and along with that is accurate power shots. but there is a handful of fighters in some peoples eyes that can really test the Kazakhstani fighter and maybe even beat him and end his reign of dominance at the 160lb division.
experts of the sport are saying at golovkins age of 34 and with the pressure style he has also because he seems to have a excellent chin he get hits more than he should so they think if he keeps going on like that his shelf life at the top will soon be in decline.
here are some fighter i think could really give golovkin a probelm inside the ring.
Demetrius Andrade - like golovkin he is a former olympian and is undefeated at light middleweight and is a former WBO 154lb champion he has expressed moving up to middleweight to take on golovkin in the future and he has some attributes that could trouble him.
being 6ft 1 he has a 2 and half inch heigh advantage over golovkin and a 3 and half inch reach advantage and he is a fighter who can use that to give golovkin trouble he is very quick and has a very awkward southpaw stance that can frustrate alot of fighters.
he is very quick and has a great jab and he can still move the same as a middleweight maybe he could evade golovkins cut the ring of style better than other fights and frustrate the champ
Saul canelo Alvarez - alot of people say canelo has ducked golovkin an i cant blame them for thinking that but i personally think canelo aint scared of golovkin its more of his team waiting for the right time.
i think canelo could cause him problems he eould be the bigger man in the ring on the night and he also is a explosive puncher where as golovkin is more of a calculated one.
he knows how to hurt his man then finish them off hes excellent at doing that hwere as canelo can take you out with a single punch seen it when he fought Amir khan and Liam smith and Carlos Baldomir etc. he also can put shots together well and that could suprise golovkin in there and if he can manage to fight of the ropes it could be a more competitive fight then people think.
Andre ward - yes i know ward is at 175 and golvkin at 160 but a few years back this fight was rumoured to happen but according ward golovkin didnt want the fight. we dont if this true but its a fight i could of seen golovkin having a tough time in ward is a master boxer in the ring and master technician and has one of best minds in ring in boxing. he could frustrate golovkin and grind out a points win like we've see him do on numerous occasions.
he is bigger than golovkin so he could easily work on the inside of golovkin and win a fight like that he did it against sergey kovalev who is bigger than golovkin so its a fight that if it would of happend i woudnt make golovkin a favourite.
Chris eubank jr - chris eubank jr and his father have been saying for a while now if he fought golovkin he would be way to much for him hes to young and to agressive in there. if they were to fight this year id pick golovkin to win but like i stated earlier in this piece golovkin with his style of fighting might not last to long at the top and if he show signs of slowing the eubanks could jump straight onto that finailly finish crying wolf at triple g and sign for a fight with him.
and its a fight that could be competive if that was the case. eubank is young at 26 hes got very good athletism and what he lacks in major power he makes up for in high work rate and having a great win.
golovkin could stll be to much for eubank and even down the line could be too experienced but its a fight Chris Eubank jr would fight till he coudnt fight know more.

Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Stop as in stop his run of success or actually knock him out?
Good suggestions in the OP, though I would actually make GGG favourite against all those fighters (yes, including Ward at 168lb, though I'd make Ward favourite at 175lb). Eubank has the style and the chin to have some success against GGG, though if GGG decided to fight him at distance with his jab, I don't think there's anything Eubank could do to win - at least not at this point of their careers. For me, Canelo's only shot of beating GGG is with body shots or via a robbery decision - he's a good body puncher and judges seem to love him, so it's not impossible. I haven't seen enough of Andrade to comment, but I think Daniel Jacobs deserves a mention here too - I think he stands a better chance of upsetting GGG than Canelo does, although his chin may be a liability.

Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Golovkin will remain in his 160lb comfort zone indefinitely. So it’s not worth considering fights against GGG and those fighters that compete in the 154lbs, 168lbs and 175lbs weight classes, unless they agree to either fight above or below their natural habitat, by competing as a middleweight to face Gennady.
In my mind, the only thing that will stop GGG will be father time. Fighters can sometimes appear to grow old overnight. And I think that this is what will ultimately happen. He’ll likely lose to an underdog.
All fighters, barring a select few, suffer defeats at some point in their careers… and there’s no disgrace in that, but I’ll admit to being disappointed if Golovkin retires, without having ventured away his 160lb comfort zone. Since his team would have got away with hyping their fighter, by making lots of false claims without making any effort to prove them.

What leads you to this conclusion? Canelo has undoubtedly shared the ring with better opponents so far, but surely you need to factor in the way GGG has been destroying his opponents, while Canelo has arguably needed the judges help on more than one occasion.DazDiCanio wrote:Canelo will beat GGG. Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
I think its goes beyond merely being a comfort zone. He isn't very big and would look dwarved by most natural 168 fighters. Golovkin seems to be in the minority of fighters who have always fought at there natural weight. So many start off in a weight lower than is natural and work there way through the weights - doesn't seem like a legit option for ggg. I thought Brook looked bigger than him when they fought. The likes of Chavez, Canelo, Broner who just look much bigger than there opponents when they get in the ring. I think he should stay at 160 and clean up - Jacobs is a good start and still the hottest fight in the planet waiting for him is Canelo. Hopefully.Enlightened-One wrote:Golovkin will remain in his 160lb comfort zone indefinitely. Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
We’ve been listening to Team Golovkin boldly proclaim for the five years or so that they could “easily” compete and defeat any fighters from 154lbs to 175lbs, but other boxers that made the same claims, such as Bernard Hopkins, actually proved it.Bigdogsnose wrote:I think its goes beyond merely being a comfort zone. Since his team would have got away with hyping their fighter, by making lots of false claims without making any effort to prove them.
For instance, Hopkins faced light middleweight opponents, such as John David Jackson and Oscar De La Hoya at a catch-weight, weighing 156lbs. And also competed against 175lb-ers, such as Sergey Kovalev, Antonio Tarver, Chad Dawson and Jean Pascal. He even agreed to compete in catchweight bouts against the likes of Ronald Wright and Kelly Pavlik in order to secure fights against the biggest name opponents possible.
Gennady Golovkin’s resume is not as good as it should be, and has to be partially responsible for this, because he refuses to leave his 160lb comfort zone.
If GGG is physically incapable of competing effectively at any weights other than 160lbs, then his team should refrain from lying to the media.
Fight fans should not be the ones making excuses for Golovkin’s refusal to leave his 160lbs comfort zone, especially considering their claims contradict the words uttered by Team GGG.

What has been disproved?boxing_rocks wrote:Enlightened one is a f*cking idiot who keeps repeating crap which was disproved multiple times. The best way to handle him is to add to ignore list.
• Team Golovkin have persistently claimed for at least five years that GGG could compete against and defeat any fighters from 154lbs to 175lbs
• Bernard Hopkins engaged in bouts against big name fighters from 156lbs to 175lbs
• Since 2003, GGG has only even competed as a middleweight (amateur & pro ranks)
• Gennady Golovkin’s resume is not as good as it should be considering he arrived on the world scene in 2008, became a world champion in 2010 and also winning every single one of his 17 world title fights, but he has only ever faced seven top-ten ranked middleweight opponents, with two of them rated in the top-five (as per The Ring’s ratings)
Whilst I’m a fan of Gennady Golovkin, it’s hard to dispute any of the above points, especially if you fact-check the above claims.
I’m sorry if I’ve upset you, but I tried to minimise the emotional impact of my words by quoting facts supplied by third-parties rather than expressing personal opinions.

Posting a few real facts and then following them with a lie or a "conclusion" is a cheap trick.

Is it unreasonable to express an educated opinion that is based on an interpretation of carefully-researched irrefutable facts?
I might hold an opinion that you personally disagree with, but that in itself doesn't make me a "liar".

stop as in his run of success and yeah danny jacobs is a dangerous fighter for any middleweight but his chin is s big issue he has been badly knocked out in the past by pirog and he was dropped by sergio mora who was a natrual 154lb fighter and not a big puncher at that weight or at 160, also thats what i mean with canelo hes very good at putting shots together head to body and it can take guys out.jezzamundo wrote:Stop as in stop his run of success or actually knock him out?
Good suggestions in the OP, though I would actually make GGG favourite against all those fighters (yes, including Ward at 168lb, though I'd make Ward favourite at 175lb). Eubank has the style and the chin to have some success against GGG, though if GGG decided to fight him at distance with his jab, I don't think there's anything Eubank could do to win - at least not at this point of their careers. and golovkin may have a great chin the body shots might be a different story with him and i think Andrade is a real talent but hes been inactive and avoided by fighters like the Charlos and Lara,
Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Not really an argument there...? GGG stops Canelo pretty easily - too big, too strong and most importantly, too tough.DazDiCanio wrote:I conclude, in my opinion and from what I have seen of them, Canelo is a superior boxer.jezzamundo wrote:What leads you to this conclusion? Nobody beats GGG but age or LHWs IMO. The only person that really had a shot at 160 has retired - Pirog. I think even Froch would've lost.
Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Alvarez is too slow and doesn't have the jab to match Golokin... They've sparred GGG and they know this very well... It was the biggest money fight in the world and they've priced themselves out of the fight..speakboxing wrote: experts of the sport are saying at golovkins age of 34 and with the pressure style he has also because he seems to have a excellent chin he get hits more than he should so they think if he keeps going on like that his shelf life at the top will soon be in decline.

Andrade hasn't fought anybody and doesn't have the all-around skills... Neither does Charlo...
Ward is too weak of a hitter.. Golovkin would run him over.. GGG's eyes don't cut like Kovalev's do... Kovalev was afraid of getting head butted all night and didn't fight his fight... When he was aggressive he was beating the Hell out of Ward, and he's not as good as GGG.
Eubank is a very tough fight.. Very strong chin and hard noggin', and physically as tough and strong as Golovkin... Very good speed and boxing skills.
Daniel Jacobs is a fairly tough fight.. He's very tall and big for a Middleweight.. He's a very hard puncher and a very good boxer.. I think people make too big a deal about his chin because he was knocked out by Pirog.. He got hit with a perfect punch and that was a long time ago.

The only thing that can stop GGG is father time. And hopefully Gennady retires before he allows a mediocre to beat him because of his age.
Re: who can stop Gennady golovkin?
Kalan, did you see the Kassim Ouma fight? It seems like he defended well and scored points on the inside a lot. Eubank has a monster uppercut and good skills on the inside. Could he be a great match up for GGG for the same reasons Ouma gave him a tough fight?Kalan wrote:

Andrade seems like a very skilled guy, what makes you think hes not?
Also I agree, Danny Jacobs got knocked down by Mora and showed some flaws where he froze a lot on defense going backwards and rushed in a lot. Barry Robinson on youtube has a whole video on his weaknesses against Pirog and Mora.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3YU9PtVy-k&t=573s
Did you see any other strengths or weaknesses of GGG vs Ouma as a sort of a blueprint to fight GGG?
