Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to 'set up shop' in the UK

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

"Floyd Mayweather has revealed plans to "set up shop" as a promoter within the UK."

The American, 40, was due to announce on Tuesday that Mayweather Promotions has negotiated with allegedly a fight between IBF super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis and Britain's Liam Walsh in London on May 20.

The fight will be his first in any promotional capacity within Britain, although he had already expressed an interest in recruiting James DeGale.

Broadcasting interest in the UK boxing scene is more healthy than it has been for some time and that has led to greater competition between British promoters. Mayweather's vast riches and profile would make him a serious player in the market.

"I'm thinking about coming over here and setting up shop," Mayweather said. "We may have an office over here also.

"We don't just want to be in the US: we want to be the first boxing promotions company that's all around the world. This will be the second place.

"Mayweather Promotions, we are the past, the present and the future of sports entertainment."

The chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, also revealed plans to work with British promoters Warren and Eddie Hearn, whose rivalry remains intense.

"We definitely plan to bring some other big fights and other smaller fights over here," said the American. "We're looking to do a lot of business with Warren and Hearn.

"[They are] two tremendous promoters over here, and we're looking to do a lot of big business over here."

Selby just finished his contract with fast car. Perhaps Floyd can sign him since he's the 'Welsh Mayweather'

He's a really arrogant, distasteful man. He'll fit in well.

i don't think a lot of these people realise how moronic their catchphrase-type statements are, when you actually think about what they say

Mayweather is notorious for coming out with utter tripe.

I respect anybody who can sit through a Mayweather interview. Add Callum Smith and Joshua to that mix too.

Casuals would lap him up.
But Floyd the person will NEVER spend the majority of his time outside Vegas. Mayweather Promotions in the U.K. without a Floyd presence struggles.
