Paulie Malignaggi Makes His Retirement From Boxing Official

Paulie has confirmed he is hanging up his gloves.

"19 years ago today - March 6, 1998 - I entered the ring for the first time as an amateur. That makes this as good a time as any for me to officially announce my retirement from competition. My life is in a place 19 years later that I never dreamed it could be in. And I have boxing to thank for that. I gave absolutely everything I had to this sport for almost 2 decades, and I will never lose the many, many incredible memories that were created during that time. I'm looking forwards to a long, fruitful career now behind the mic, staying around the sport I love so much and the sport that changed my life for the better. Thank you to the sport of boxing, and thanks you to everyone who supported me along the way on this incredible journey. I am forever grateful.

I really like Paulie, I think he's a great commentator/analyst as well - I hope he has a permanent role with Sky now.

Excellent analyst when not shilling for the AH Floyd agenda - huge overachiever in the ring - boring style which provoked Tyson to walk out of his fight at Barclays against Cano - definitely a good guy for boxing though -

I always like Malignaggi, the 1st time I ever saw him was when he fought Cotto, I remember seeing him in the build up and couldn't stand him, I never really like brash fighters but that night he gained my respect he showed he was tough as well as skilled

He's probably the best commentator on the scene IMO so I hope to see a lot more of him behind the mic

WAR Paulie

Had quite a career despite bringing feather-dusters to a gun fight. Paulie had a ton of heart, was always willing to fight the best and not afraid to take a beating if he was in too deep. He got the most out of his talent and is stepping away at a good time, Paulie has apparently handled his money well and lined up a bright future in broadcasting, no need to hang around taking beatings. I like him as a commentator and hope he keeps that job for a long, long time.
Paulie always lost to his best opponents but he scored some solid wins along the way too.

Vyacheslav Snechenko tko 9 - I didn't get to see this one live, watched it a few months later but I remember thinking the headline couldn't be right when it said Paulie stopped an undefeated title holder Shocking win and best of his career imo
Zab Judah UD 12 - most accomplished opponent defeated
Juan Diaz UD 12- avenged a loss in their previous encounter and both fights with Diaz were very entertaining imo
Lovermore N'dou UD 12 - wins the first of his two world titles
Edner Cherry UD 10 - Paulie completely outclassed the rugged gatekeeper.

Paulie is not going to get elected to the IBHOF but imo had a great career.
