They are, but nothing was happening to suggest Haye was going to gas like you suggested. You would think Haye would have got it but who would have seen it going six rounds in the first place

Bellew was never expected to hurt him,my view is he would have come on stronger and won, whether he would have we will never know,my opinion and that's why boxing fans will argue all day and night,we see things differently, maybe bellew knew haye couldn't do the distance with his injury and backed off waiting for the towel to come in
Re: Would Haye have won if the injury did not occur in rd 6?
Not sure if he'd have stopped him, but one way or another he'd almost certainly have won
Re: Would Haye have won if the injury did not occur in rd 6?
Bellew couldn't even fight for three full minutes without Haye moving on the ropes! How was he going to come on to a Haye moving around the ring, and a Haye who was starting to find his range through the four and the fifth.bigjack wrote:TheDarkDestroyer wrote:They are, but nothing was happening to suggest Haye was going to gas like you suggested. Do people's expectations have any bearing on what would've happened if Haye's leg hadn't blown out?bigjack wrote:TheDarkDestroyer wrote:They are, but nothing was happening to suggest Haye was going to gas like you suggested. Sure, he was expected to hurt Bellew and Bellew wasn't expected to hurt him as much, but Haye still won nearly every round and wasn't showing signs of gassing.

Haye ko or points, bellew was throwing next to nothing and had fear in his eyes. Haye was starting to find his range, if he didn't have the power for a KO it would have been a wide points victory. Bellew was looking more tired and to be honest seemed far to conscious of being countered.

More than likely, but if Haye had anything left, Bellew wouldn't even have made it to round 6.

I think Haye would have stopped him. But it is all hypothetical now.
Re: Would Haye have won if the injury did not occur in rd 6?
Bellew like all of us thought Haye's comeback was a joke and the WBC cruiserweight champion proved it. This to me is key issue, the reason the fight got made and the reason it played out as it did.
Any other circumstances there probably wouldn't have been a matchup to talk about in the first place.

I was at that fight & when Lewis landed an uppercut around the 4th round there was an audible "oohh" around the arena. Took a lot out of Vitali. He'd started well but had shot his bolt. The cut saved him from a beat down but robbed us of some more action.bigjack wrote:It's been asked a thousand times, would Vitali have beaten Lewis if he hadn't been cut etc,

Think he would of stopped him late

I don't think the injury occurred in R6 I believe he went in injured assuming that Bellew would try to put it on him early and would be able to stop him.
Without any injury I don't think there would have been a round 6.

I agree he wasn't quite right before the fight, too much of a coincidence that rumours were circulating before the fight that his achilles was injured but I doubt it had snapped at that stage, I think it did go in round 6leejonesjnr wrote:I don't think the injury occurred in R6 I believe he went in injured assuming that Bellew would try to put it on him early and would be able to stop him.

I feel the Achilles was injured before the fight.
Haye 100% fit, wins by KO first 3.
In the reality of Saturday night. If the Achilles didn't go completely in the 6th Haye would of won via wide points win. He'd settled down I thought and was outworking Bellew. I had it 4-1 Haye after 5.

I dont think Haye was fit coming into the fight.
I saw the open workout on tv in the days leading up to the fight and couldnt believe how many left hand punches he was hitting the pads with and so few right hands. I thought perhaps he had a problem with his right shoulder. But it now potentially makes sense, dodgy right leg and you cant throw the right hand so much as you need to plant the leg.

Yes, it was also notable how little movement there was around the ring during the open workouts. He would throw a few shots, then slowly amble around the ring, and then back to the same position, it was effectively like a static workout.liamlion wrote:I dont think Haye was fit coming into the fight.

It explains why Haye was going hell for leather from the off too, he knew he probably didn't have much time before the injury prevented him fighting or worsened.
Personally I hope there is a rematch. I will probably end up buying it, even though I know it's a bit of a waste of money. Whether Haye will be able to fight again without a major injury is disputable. It does seem that the achilles will probably repair ok, I think Haye would do well to come in rather lighter too, and he needs to watch that shoulder, which is always likely to be vulnerable.

Well it's relevant, as they are likely to have a rematch.straali wrote:if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle....
The question is, what happens IF haye manages to come in fully or at least near fully fit.

Sorry James....wasn't meaning to imply your comment in particular was boring, it was meant to be my opinion of the over-analysis of what-if in the thread in general. I hope there isn't a rematch as I've had enough of the Hayemaker.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well it's relevant, as they are likely to have a rematch.straali wrote:if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle....

I think it's a shame for him that he ends with a loss on his record to someone like Bellew, but there's plenty of ex-fighters who have losses on their records to lesser fighters, once they are past their best. It's just how it goes.
Re: Would Haye have won if the injury did not occur in rd 6?
Yeah the Haye of 2007-2008 knocks him out early.PredatorHayds wrote:I feel the Achilles was injured before the fight.

I'd be amazed if we see a injury free Haye in the ring again.Autobarn wrote:Yeah the Haye of 2007-2008 knocks him out early.PredatorHayds wrote:I feel the Achilles was injured before the fight.
