I am not finding anything either including in Russian. He is a permanent resident at best.greg wrote:..that I'm sure of...was just curious about American citizenship...boxing_rocks wrote:Even if he is, he definitely kept his Russian citizenship too.greg wrote: ..is he? Re: 60 media scores for Kovalev vs Ward
I though Ward won 7 of the last 10 rounds.
I also think he may have won 6 out of the last 10.
Either way, it's the best combination of skills in the ring I've seen in years.
People who think Kovalev won 8 rounds follow the scoring fallacy of "who hits harder".
It's not based on any scoring criteria and is almost always completely biased. It's just HBO BS.
After the 2nd round, Kovalev and Ward's punches were equally effective.
However, some people scored Kovalev's punches more because of assumed damage.
Larry Merchant used to defend Floyd and Hopkins skill against Foreman and Lampley's blown calls.
He used to always say "none of those punches landed". Remember?
Lately, that professional perspective has disappeared in an effort to be more entertaining.
The result is a GREAT CLOSE FIGHT between the TWO BEST FIGHTERS IN BOXING
being reduced to crying and bitching.

How many people would have called it a robbery if Kovalev got the decision?
Yeah nobody![[icon_twisted.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)

Re: 60 media scores for Kovalev vs Ward
I re-watched Froch-Ward and Kovalev-Ward.
- Ward looked better against Froch, he clearly won about 116-112. Froch looked weaker than usual (no PEDs for that one because he was tested in the USA?).
- Kovalev was not impressive in rounds 6 to 9, but neither was Ward.
- Both were tired in rounds 10-12. Kovalev found some energy reserves and won the 10th and arguably the 12th.
- I had Kovalev winning 116-111, giving Ward 4 close rounds and giving Kovalev 2 close rounds. 117-110 is also a good scorecard, giving each of them 3 of the 6 close rounds.
- If you give Ward ALL of the closer rounds, Kovalev still wins 114-113.
- The rounds Ward won were all close, while 6 of the rounds Kovalev won were clear.
