David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
This Saturday on allegedly, I think it will be a cracker, 2 hard hitting guys who like to unload early but also can take a shot, it could be over very quickly or it could be a war of attrition, both guys chasing a rematch with Golovkin, Lemieux has an early KO win against Glen Tapia since losing a unification against GGG, he destroyed Tapia and Stevens also has a KO win over the previously unbeaten Patrick Teixeira who he annihaliated also he gave De La Rosa a beating in his last fight but couldn't find the KO
I would say Lemieux is the better all rounder slightly but I'd also say Stevens gave Golovkin the tougher fight, he regrouped well after going down early before being pulled out after 8, this is a real pick 'em for me, Stevens is the home fighter so it could give him the edge and he's also in good form
I can make a case for both guys winning and could actually see this going the distance despite both guys being punchers, i'll go with Lemieux on a close decision

Fancy Stevens here. They are really well matched. Lemieux the bigger guy but I think Stevens if he's on song has a bit more about him and can hustle a decision.
On a side note that Teixeira fella that Stevens beat was utter dog shît! He was undefeated going in to that I'm sure as well! Looked like a fish out of water.

I rate Lemieux. He's improved vastly the last couple of years.
Being the bigger man and also he possesses the more ring IQ of the two. I see Lemieux by mid-round stoppage

I don't rate lemieux at all. Stevens by KO for me. I remember the HBO crew saying he wouldn't cut his hair for the GGG fight even though it was getting in his eyes. The Chap loves himself.
Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
Stevens regularly shuts down after the first few if he hasn't scored a stoppage, and I don't trust him at all in a war of attrition. He can hurt Lemieux, and opportunities will be there for hard counters between David's wild shots, but if he doesn't do something major early I think there's a good chance he goes into his shell and gets outworked for the rest of the fight.
Even when Stevens is walking forward and has the superficial look of an aggressor, he often just doesn't let his hands go. In the loss to Ndam he was moving forward, yet averaged only 26 punches thrown a round, whereas Lemieux was much more active against the Frenchman (close to 50 shots per round) and was able to drop Ndam several times. Obviously neither have N'dam's fast footwork, but with Stevens the low output issue has been there against more stationary opposition too, and I recall how he shelled up and looked overwhelmed for most of his bout with Taureno Johnson, and for several parts of his bout with Derrick Findley.
Looking forward to it

An old school cross roads bombs away encounter, I'm hoping for an early KO, as with such heavy artillery and good chins on show, too many major whacks landing carries a health warning
Whoever lands first maybe ...i want Stevens ( weird nickname what's that all about? ) but think it might be the fast starting Canadian.

Probably lemieux by stopoage but woukdnt suprise me if stevens stops lemieux.
Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
Both fighters looked scared when they fought Golovkin and won't be chasing or deserving of a rematch.

Yeah I think Jacobs will look petrified in the ring at the start too.

100%. Saw him interviewed saying he gets nervous before fights but he's confident he will switch to 'business' when the first bell goes.TheLeprechaun wrote:Shambles wrote:Both fighters looked scared when they fought Golovkin and won't be chasing or deserving of a rematch.

I think it could be over once Golovkin applies a bit of pressure. 2, 3 rounds max. You get the feeling golovkin can take whatever Jacobs lands. It's going to be interesting to see how Jacobs composes himself. I fear he will panic and fall apart. Reminders of the last eastern euro that Starched him will surely start coming back

Jacobs is a classy operator and someone I rate extremely highly. The only question mark over him is his chin. That's the last thing you want to question with GGG in the other corner.TheLeprechaun wrote:PredatorHayds wrote:100%. I think GGG will do him with the right hand he throws, he throws it high then sort of corkscrews down last second. It's a hard one to see and if it catches Jacobs high I think his legs could do a dance.

Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
I'm a big fan of Jacobs myself. I think he's 2nd best at 160. Golovkin has his style covered though. He makes them work really hard to move around by continually cutting the ring off and gets them at the end of his shots. The only people I'd pick to beat golovkin currently are Kovalev and ward up at 175. Not with a great deal of confidence mind. You'd have to favourite golovkin against any of the current crop at 160 and 168 for me. He broke Groves ribs in sparring.

Think Lemieux stops Stevens too be fair
Mid to late rounds

Scary KO. Stevens totally out from a left hook in the third. It was fun while it lasted...

Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
That was awesome - doubt Stevens will ever be the same again.
Good to hear he's ok.

Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
knockout of the year, eat him up from start to finish.
Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
What's the situation with Lemiuex missing the check weigh on the morning of the fight? He's got previous issues with making weight hasn't he?
Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
I'm wondering if Lemieux should move up to Supper Middleweight - got to fancy him getting another belt in that division. Post fight he talked about Alvarez (would be a good fight), as well as GGG again (would be same as before so no point IMO).
Cracking KO.
Always great value to watch him.

I didn't like how he didn't go and check to see whether Stevens was ok. Quite a cold fish. He didn't seem massively keen to get back in the ring with GGG.
Re: David Lemieux vs Curtis Stevens
There was some serious bad feeling between them. He did say he wants the GGG fight, think he should chase Saunders it's very winnable.big lennox wrote:I didn't like how he didn't go and check to see whether Stevens was ok. Quite a cold fish. I hate it when people expect fighters who clearly dislike each other beforehand to be all pally pally after the fight. I like it when fighters show spite after the fight because it shows me that they were being real beforehand. You see two fighters giving it large at each other before the fight and then best mates in the right afterwards and for me that leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
