Tag Team Boxing - what are your thoughts?

Post by Like a Boss »

fox mentioned Smithy had some tag team boxing bouts between footballers on his Toowoomba card the other night. Had a look on Youtube for them. But they aren't there.

Did find some tag team fights though and I'll post some videos below so people can offer their opinions.

Found this one with Lucas Browne in it that was uploaded to Youtube in June 2009, and what a brawl!

At Smithys the other night they were held over 3x1min rounds. So the first 2 fighters would go hell for leather for about 30sec. Then the next 2 would come in and do the same till the rounds end. The 3rd member of the team would start round 2 and it would keep going like that. So they went flat out as they would only have about 30sec before having a break. If one got rattled, the ref Will Young would jump in and get them to make a tag.

So each team had 3 fighters then? Or was it more than that?

Yep 3 fighters in each team. The only stipulations they had on the footy players were that each member had to be 90+kgs, and no fight experience. (Boxing, kick boxing, Mma).

Was it all about entertainment and to hell with the rule book like that video above with Lucas Browne in it?

They played by the rules but just let them go from all angles.

Are Sia Sunaki and Bill Salasi pro fighters? A quick search gives me nothing related to them other than the posted fight....

That certainly wasn't the most skillful boxing I've seen, but it was a fun watch.

I did the same thing as you, and looked Sunaki and Salasi up on Boxrec straight after I'd watched the video. Couldn't find them there either.

Not sure who the taller of the two was? The one who spent most time in the ring. But he probably should have had a crack at the pro ranks.
