Ronnie Clark v Lorrenzo Parra ***OFF***

Post by DazDiCanio »

I believe this is confirmed now, I hope

By the looks of it a pretty good opponent for Ronnie. Size obviously may be an issue, but the laddie can box, no question.

Josh and Ronnie on the same show can only be good for Scottish boxing. I'm looking forward to it.

Ch5 picking it up too, I believe. Although they must be pissed at Barry for cancelling the Cardiff show, here's hoping Ch5 stick with boxing.

For a couple of years, maybe 2004-2006, as a flyweight Parra was as good a boxer as anyone in the sport. Then injuries and weight troubles caught up with him and he was embarrassed by a tough Japanese fighter Takefumi Sakata he'd beaten twice before in gruelling, fast paced encounter. And he never recaptured his form.

Really has blown up and slowed down, sadly.

Very good point, assuming that the Lorenzo Parra in question is the former world flyweight champion http://boxrec.com/boxer/43081 and not the unbeaten bantam http://boxrec.com/boxer/701164. (As an aside, is the latter the son of the former or some other relative? Same birthplace, same name.) Either way, should be a significant advantage to Ronnie Clark in terms of natural weight. Good luck to him.

I was on Sky Sports Boxing site yesterday and that has Ronnie down as fighting Cardle for the British next month, clearly its wrong as Cardle's defending against Barrett but eff knows where Sky got that info

There were murmurs of Ronnie getting the fight mate but Think it was gonna be the same as the ward fight with little notice. Would have been ideal to get that fight as think Barrett has a real chance. Just don't rate cradle that much and think he's a bad version of Martin j ward.

Martin J Ward is streets ahead of Cardle on talent and boxing ability, imo I would have gave Ronnie a real chance against Cardle because he comes on strong as the fight goes on and Cardle just gets disorganised.

I think that is misleading JamieM and kind of contradicts your previous post where you say it was looking like the same as the Martin J Ward fight i.e. short notice.

What I have heard (for all its worth) is that it was put to Ronnie's management team but there was no commitment from them/Ronnie at the time? Might be wrong but I heard that Mark Dunlop was then calling a few times after to try get the fight but they had moved on to other opponents.

Maybe Ronnie did say yes and I personally would give him a great chance of beating Scotty Cardle but to try insinuate that Cardle said no is another reason why Ronnie probably doesn't get all the fights he craves because JamieM and Daviddee make these silly claims against other fighters and then they don't want to box Ronnie. I'm all for supporting your brother but you can't just make up a statement and pass it off as fact lol

Don't pass off any statements. I know how it works and your hearing statements second hand. The way the ward fight happened Ronnies manager had a feeling he was gonna get the fight but nothing was confirmed and they just planned for it hoping they got it. Remember Ronnie fought in Aberdeen two weeks before it because it was not made. Ronnie has said yes to many fighters and after going back to the fighters team been refused. It isn't as simple as hearns matchmaker saying there's the fight it all has to be agreed by both teams. And my statement is Ronnie had said yes. They chose someone else

But your statement makes it sound like it was Cardle that said no, that isn't the case. I do know that Joe and Scott would have been over the moon with Ronnie as an opponent as they see lots of flaws in him. I personally think it would be a good fight and that Ronnie might get to him once he starts getting disorganised as the rounds go on but once again it wasn't Scotty or his team that said no.

I was not going to comment on this topic but my names brought into it.. Mainman I have made it clear on numerous occasions that I believe it's not the fighters and sometimes not even the managers who refuse fights.. Managers are there to look after fighters and if they can have an easier fight then why not? A good manager will pick the easiest possible route up the ladder rather than continually going into 50/50 fights. I think Cardles team have made the right decision here. I think they have picked an opponent that suits them.

People think I just think Ronnie can beat anyone.. This Cardle fight has been talked about since Ronnie fought Ryan Walsh and I have always disagreed with it. Against what people have said on here I think Cardle is very big for the weight and a very awkward natural boxer.. I think this is a much harder fight than Ward.. For Ronnie to win this fight he needs to rely on Cardle becoming disorganised. Cardle has showed a very good chin and in my opinion would be difficult to stop.. If you look at the fights Ronnie has lost its due to either starting too late or not letting his hands go.. For Ronnie to beat Cardle we would need to see something we haven't seen yet and to fight for 12 rounds.

It's not fair but when your a challenger on these TV shows with big and fighters, away from home you need to rip the title away.. Cardle is very stupid at times with his boxing we see what happens when he switches off but when he is firing it's very good to watch. You also have to look at his quality of sparring and training. He has world class preparation. Win lose or draw Ronnie will genuinely fight anyone.. For that he deserves respect but I'm not stupid enough to say he would definitely beat Cardle or even Martin J Ward in a rematch these are both very hard fights and he would need to improve to beat either of them.. Cardle will beat Barrett easily maybe even stop him..

Very nice and honest reply daviddee, sorry if I have brought you into this topic and maybe I have misjudged you but I am sure in the past you too have been guilty of saying things about opponents/possible opponents of Ronnie's. Trust me I have great respect for Ronnie, his attitude is second to none but sometimes when you read things put on this forum and JamieM is the biggest culprit you just sometimes want to root for the other guy lol

Yes sometimes out of frustration or trying to clear up the truth.. Sometimes is just to wind the situation up. If people assume things then let them assume it's funnier that way. At the start no one knew who Ronnie was and there was a huge effort to boost his profile and it worked.. After fighting Ward in a fight that was close should he be fighting Castillo then a flyweight World Champion from 2004?? No!! Should he be fighting Scotty Cardle?? No!! The British title is locked for about 9 months to a year.. The commonwealth title is vacant.. Townend will fight for that.. The EBU title is held by Gullieme Frenois who was looking for an opponent.. The WBO title is held by Zoltan Kovacs.. Juli Giner is always on the look out for opponents. There is a barrage of British kids coming through for an eliminator.. Ask why these fights don't happen and it comes down to £££££.. Ronnie would be favourite against those 3 European fighters.. what's the plan fight Scotty Cardle?? what if he wins what next fight Ritson or Campbell??? What if he loses?? Crazy in my eyes surely with the amount of TV dates flying about £15k could be found for Clark v Frenois for EBU title

Honestly so stressing, not the mcguigans fault the guys visa was there he just didn't pick it up or show for his flight. They tried to get an alternative but he just can't be giving away that much weight. All the hard work was done. We had sold the tickets, he was bang on weight and he's let down. Honestly pro boxing is a tough game.
