As well as giving the Americans the Beatles we also let them have Akinwande-Scott Welch.Greg Houston wrote:Whilst not quite the topic, the thread got me thinking about all British world title fights to take place outside of the UK.
I can think of at least two - Hamed v McCullough and Lewis v Akinwande
UK's world title contestants - where in the world?

I don't really think we should count the minor titles but that's one that I would never have gotElJefe wrote:Are we counting minor titles? If so, didn't Courtney Fry fight Roy Jones for some bullshit Cruiserweight World title in Latvia?

Outside Puerto Rico, I'm struggling to think of a Caribbean country that fits the bill. I know Howard Eastman had a couple of fights out there for minor trinkets late on in his career.
Can't think of any African country other than SA, either. We've had plenty of African fighters fight over here though.
Damaen Kelly fought out in Columbia, not sure if that was mentioned already
Roy Gumbs fought out in South Korea
One of the oddest world title fights has to be Ncita vs Benichou out in Israel. I mean, what thought process did they go through for that?

In 1913, Bombadier Billy Wells of Ealing, contested the European heavyweight title against the legendary Geores Carpentier in Feestpaleis, Ghent, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
Eddie Avoth had a failed attempt at the European LHW title in 1969, in Zagreb Croatia
Wayne Mcculoch for the NABF in the Caymen Islands

Contested the PABA super bantamweight title in Indonesia, and the IBO title in Singapore
Peter Buckley fought for the WBA Inter-Continental super bantamweight title in Austria
Evan Armstrong for the commonwealth in Ghana
Johnny Nelsons early WBF reign took him to S Africe, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Thailand and Brazil
Fred Buckland, Billy Fairclough and Pat Clancy fought in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia)
