David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
Gennady Golovkin beat down Curtis Stevens over the course of eight rounds three years ago in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
David Lemieux knocked Stevens unconscious with one punch Saturday night. The difference in how they each beat Stevens is among the reasons Montreal’s Lemieux believes he has more power than the Kazakh knockout artist, who has won 92 percent of his professional bouts by knockout.
The 28-year-old Lemieux obviously knows just how hard Golovkin hits. The undisputed middleweight champion stopped Lemieux in the eighth round of their October 2015 fight at Madison Square Garden.
“I believe I do,” Lemieux said when asked if he has more power than Golovkin during a post-fight press conference early Sunday morning. “A different kind of power. But I don’t like to talk about what I have. I let the fans say what they see. So you guys saw what you saw. You tell me what you think.”
“Two very different kind of powers. Triple-G is physically stronger. Curtis is not as strong as Triple-G. He has good explosion, Stevens. He has a good hook. We all know, right? Triple-G’s stronger, but a different kind of power. Triple-G is not too explosive, just heavy-handed.”

Golovkin didn't fully commit into his punches when fighting Lemieux or Stevens. I don't think he ever does. I think their power is comparable.
Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
It doesn't really matter if he does or not, when they fought he barely laid a meaningful shot on Golovkin. Lemieux definitely can crack though.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does hit harder than G. But, he is not better than G. Golovkin knew how powerful David was going in to that bout. Which is why he worked his jab wonderfully. He boxed Lemieux's ears off and created openings for his own power punches. Maybe they aren't as heavy as David's, but they get the job done.... Especially when you are able to land them.

Lemieux probably does have the edge in one-punch ko power. But Golovkin is clearly stronger and more powerful overall.

Lemieux is clearly the heavier puncher but Golovkin beats him in every other category.

Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
I wouldn't say clearly. Stevens took a few of David's early power shots flush and didn't seem too bothered. Not as bothered as when he got caught and floored by G early. The look on Stevens face after the knock down was very telling of the power he had just gotten nailed with. I just think the punch from Lemieux that put Stevens down was right on the button. Had G landed that same punch, it most likely would have had the same effect. I mean, David's punches may be harder, but I wouldn't say clearly.Baby Face Finster wrote:Lemieux is clearly the heavier puncher but Golovkin beats him in every other category.

Stevens didn't see that punch which was the main reason why it was so effective.Impractical Poster wrote:I wouldn't say clearly. Of course, and it was right on the button as well. Stevens didn't see the punch that floored him against G in the 2nd either. But had Stevens been against the ropes and that punch landed in the same spot as David's, yeah, he would have went to sleep all the same.boxing_rocks wrote:Stevens didn't see that punch which was the main reason why it was so effective.Impractical Poster wrote:I wouldn't say clearly. That was some left hook Lemieux landed on Stevens.

Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
I agree with Lemieux, he does have more power than GGG.
Lemieux, like Wlad Klitschko used to some years back, or Kovalev circa 2012-2014 is a guy who can literally put you to sleep with 1 punch. He doesn't need to land an accumulation or even be winning the fight at that point, to KO his opponent. In boxing today I can't really think of anyone Id say hits as hard as Lemieux P4P.
GGG's stoppages tend to come from his strength, pressure, and accumulation of punches rather than just some explosive 1 punch. GGG is the much better fighter than Lemieux tho. Power is not everything and in terms of technical ability and Ring IQ GGG is leagues above David.
In a rematch, GGG still makes easy work of David.

Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
Golovkin was the 1st man to stop Nibuhiro Ishida... A 3rd round ice job -- and he put him into intensive care with a short right hander. That was prime GGG
Another guy who'd never been stopped was Proksa -- sheer devastation...
And Martin Murray had never been stopped. I think GGG carried him to get rounds in.
GGG hits harder than any Middleweight there's ever been.. And I think Jacobs hits harder than Lemieux but he's more accurate.
Lemieux winds up and throws for all he's worth.. He's scary if you're facing him.. He's a lights out hitter, but if he boxed more he'd be better off.

There is no practical way of measuring who has more power.

I'm going to have to say no.
Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
..a bit more power, a bit less power - it's all theory, below are the stats:
http://www.sportsviewlondon.com/golovki ... nch-stats/
..Lemieux landed 89 punches including 54 POWER punches..either Lemieux's power is largely exaggerated or GGG is immune to it..we all know the final result and that's what counts..

Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
Hitting a stationary target with one punch? Maybe. Maybe not. GGG moves you to where he wants you and picks and times his punches without throwing everything in to it. Lemieux took a one sided systematic beat down. I can understand why he thinks he'd have a shot again if they fought but he's wrong. He'd be handled even easier if they fought again and probably brutally halted this time round.

So what? You only need to have enough power that the other guy can't take it. Golovkin did, Lemieux didn't. End of story. Floyd has faced plenty of bigger hitters than him.... so what? The Lemieux interview reads as if they haven't fought yet.

Re: David Lemieux: I Believe I Have More Power Than Golovkin
Not only it was on the button, but it was a prepared punch, too. Lemieux knew that Stevens was taking his right hand low. So, he attacked him with his right hand, protecting his chin at the same time, which made Stevens lower his right hand, and the rest is history.Impractical Poster wrote:Of course, and it was right on the button as well.
