tito and hearns would t/ko everybody except for sugar, who would move and be hard to hit, yet do damage himself cause sugar possessed atg power himself. reslulting him winning against everybody ud against runners like floyd and probably tko with guys who like to exchange punches like duran or thurman, ultimatly sugar had more or equal power, but with better timing and far better technique and footwork.
Re: Welterweight Legends Tournament:Hearns/Trinidad/Mayweather/Thurman/Quartey/Forrest/Ray Robinson/Duran
let's be real about this how would Sugar Ray Robinson do against a young healthy Thomas Hearns? Hearns is a handful for ANY fighter in history.
I actually have a change of thought believing that Hearns would win the tournament. Too much reach, insane power, accuracy, stamina, heart,
& patience.

Hearns is my all-time favourite fighter and I don't think his stamina was 'too much' for anyone in this tournament.bnovelist wrote:let's be real about this how would Sugar Ray Robinson do against a young healthy Thomas Hearns? Hearns is a handful for ANY fighter in history.

I like Thurman in this one... Too tricky for the hittable Hearns... Too aggressive and sharp hitting for the scared Mayweather... Too big and strong for Duran... Too smart for dumb dumb Quartey... Too quick for slowpoking Trinidad... Too cunning and maneuverable for the overly aggressive Robinson...

Not really sure what Thurman is doing on any kind of great list. Basically a cagey runner who's power suddenly disappeared as soon as he stepped up to B level competition. He won his last fight by beating a non-fighter who some believe could have easily already lost a few fights against average competition. Thurman will probably beat all of them in a holding and running match but in a straight up professional boxing competition he wouldn't get past marcos maidana.

Wow, I think you're massively overrating Thurman and massively underrating everyone else here - I think there's a chance he goes 0-7 against this lineup. Vs Quartey and Forrest are tough to call and I could see a close fight with Trinidad, but the other four are a class above and beat him convincingly IMO. Best chance would be against an unfocused/unmotivated Duran, or landing a Sunday punch on Hearns's average chin.Kalan wrote:I like Thurman in this one... Too tricky for the hittable Hearns... I know everyone has their own opinion, but come on. This was a horrible post from Kalan.
Like you said, Quartety/Forrest/Tito are close ones, everybody else outclasses Thurman in their prime. I think Forrest honestly wins. Tito was great at 147 and always found a way to win in that division. Great power for a 147 guy. Thurman's probably only shot at winning is against Quartey, who's power jab would definitely bother Thurman. I say 1-6......2-5 at best.

Thurman is a solid strong welter that's why I included him. I think he actually outsmarts Roberto Duran frustrating him the same fashion Leonard
did. Vernon Forrest gets ko'd by Tito! If Mayorga could do the job than Tito would definitely get Forrest out of there.

Keep in mind bnovelist that Thruman was fighing a natural lightweight in his last fight. Danny is an average champ at best. Thruman still couldn't assert himself against a non-fighting runner. If Thurman would have lost, it wouldn't have been a controversial decision. Just boxing. Maybe you can imagine what the kind of firepower and boxing skills that would be put on him be the likes of tito, hearns, delahoya, duran, etc.

Thurman called Maidana out for years.. He chased the faker into retirement.. Try this out: Khan, pre-Hunter beat Maidana.. A youthful and unfinished Danny Garcia battered Khan out early.. A more mature and finished Garcia was easily out-boxed by Thurman... Screw the SD, Keith won that fight going away.Luckybattles wrote:Not really sure what Thurman is doing on any kind of great list. Maybe maidana is a bit of a stretch and Keith did what he had to do to get the decision. Did the same against Porter. He needs to step up and give a performance to show that he truly deserving. Honestly, believe that a real welterweight with decent skills like a prime Cintron would have stopped him. He's did what he had to do but hardly made a statement and it would be considered wreckless to place him on any all time great list based on his body of work thus far.

If anything I think I've overrated Tito more than anyone else with the results in my round-robin, but with the number of fights taking place, I figure Hearns has to have an upset KO loss, given his chin. No question that Tommy is the greater and better boxer than Tito.bnovelist wrote:No way in this lifetime Tito ko's Thomas Hitman Hearns!

Why are ya'll picking on Hearn's chin? Its not granite but not glassy either. He has a chin like Cotto elite but not granite. Remember he was in a
slugfest with Marvin Hagler don't forget that. Anyone slugging with Marvin Hagler could go down look at Mugabi.

No one ever said Hearns had a glass chin. It's just that Tito had the power at WW to put anybody out. But, so did Hearns. I could see Tito going down at some point vs Hearns. But as vintage Tito did, he would get up again. While Tito went down a few times in his career, he was never really hurt except in the 12th round against Hops. And that was basically a new weight and he had been getting tagged all night. I always thought Tito had a good chin and that his knockdowns were mostly flash knockdowns.bnovelist wrote:Why are ya'll picking on Hearn's chin? Its not granite but not glassy either. Agreed - Hearns's chin is about on a par with Lennox Lewis's chin - perhaps a little above average in a general sense, but below average when compared to other great fighters. Like a C+ or a B- chin.Impractical Poster wrote:No one ever said Hearns had a glass chin. It's just that Tito had the power at WW to put anybody out. But, so did Hearns. Re: Welterweight Legends Tournament:Hearns/Trinidad/Mayweather/Thurman/Quartey/Forrest/Ray Robinson/Duran
hearns would probably beat everyone in this tourney except leonard and robinson, who are 50/50 fights.
tito could beat thurman, forrest and quartey but they would all be close, in fact they are all 50./50 fights, everyone else he would probably lose to unless his power and stamina makes a difference somewhere down the line.(titos a marathon runner and had stamina to throw bombs throughout the fight, so its possible).
mayweather should be favored over trinidad and forrest, although forrests size, speed and pedigree should make it interesting. forrest could probly score an early knockdown but floyd will eventually adapt. mayweather would most likely lose to robinson, leonard, hearns, and probably quartey imo.
thurman's hard to gauge cause he's just beggining his step toward greatness, but right now he probably can outbox trinidad and quartey and maybe even old mayweather, but would probably struggle and lose to everyone else
quartey would beat forrest(many thought he did already) and i think should be favored over mayweather, the rest would be 50/50 fights. ike doesn't get the proper respect he deserves, this man outboxed prime delahoya clearly imo and neither tito nor whitaker were all that keen to fight him.
forrest is kinda hard to gauge as well because he had such a short lived prime due to constant injuries. i don't hold the losses to mayorga against forrest, because i believe at welterweight that mayorga could have pulled the samething on delahoya and trinidad. ppl seem to forget that mayorga at welterweight didn't get tired and had an iron chin.
i think hearns and leonard are the only ones on the list with a 50/50 shot at robinson. duran can make it close, similar style to lamotta,
floyd may make it close as well but both would ultimately lose.
just my opinion
