fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
I'm just tryin' to help myself and perhaps others understand your pretzel logic.
Once decoded everyone will be able to have this insight.
I really can't agree that Holmes had faster hands than both Ali and Patterson.
But I can agree that Holmes won his first 48 pro fights.
So we very clearly have a 50% agreement ratio.

You're not helping anybody do anything... You can't follow an argument. You can't think straight. And you have no counters or argument of your own.
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Gary Cornish, absolute lightening.
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Cornish is a 6'7" X 250 guy with fair speed and athleticism who's lost only 1 of 25 Heavyweight fights -- to Joshua in 90 seconds.
It's not his speed or athleticism that got him into trouble. He's got extremely poor skills. There's no Heavyweights of any real ability in Scotland and no trainers who are any good. He'd move out of there if he were serious about being a top Heavyweight.
He's fighting Sam Sexton next, who's already been knocked out by Dereck Chisora and David Price, the only 2 name Heavyweights he's ever faced. If Cornish can't beat Sexton he should hang it up.

I let "the light of day" do my talking on occasion. Sometimes it's what you don't say that says it all.
Sort of like the rests in music. Without them it would just be noise.
So...you provide the noise......I'll fill folks in on the rest.
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
You're a cow's ass oldie... Vitali was winning his fight with Lewis on ALL SCORECARDS ALL THE WAY.. The cuts on his eyelid and cheek were caused by fouls.
I had Holmes beating McCall at age 45...unfortunately 2 judges had McCall by 1 point... That was after McCall knocked Lewis for a loop in only 2 rounds.

It's how fast, slow, long, short, loud, soft, and varied the notes you're composing are that becomes the creative part of music... The notes create the rhythm, tempo, and melody. The rests are just sitting there doing nothing -- like the spaces between words and your brain are doing nothing.BoxBuzz wrote:Kalan wrote:You're not helping anybody do anything... Like you, it was a joke. Which you fell for.
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
TOTAL BS boy... It didn't happen often for Lewis... That was the ONLY fight Vitali ever lost on cuts -- and the ONLY fight Lewis ever won on cuts.golden oldie wrote: Childish LIES. They were cased by legitimate punches. That is what often occurs when a guy 250 lbs + who is known as something of a puncher hits people
Lewis started fouling in the 3rd round because he lost the first 2 rounds big... Steward immediately told Lewis following the 2nd "He's winning the fight."

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Vitali couldn't drop Lewis with a sledgehammer. Though neither of them belong in this thread. Lol
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
In any rematch he would not only have dropped Lewis, he would have beaten he fk out of him... Vitali is the man who couldn't be dropped, not Lewis.
And Vitali had very fast hands.. He easily outpunched Lewis by tons and was winning the fight on all scorecards -- even with blood streaming right into his left eye from hideous cuts on his eyelid -- he was still winning on all cards.. In contrast Lewis was outpunching the little Mike Tyson by tons in his previous fight -- and was scoring a shutout over the fast-fisted little tyke when he upped and knocked Mike FLAT for the count.

No fools here.....
Just highly opinionated diverse thinkers.
Ok....and some non thinkers. Cmon in....there's room for us all.
However for those of you out there who are vulnerable and easily influenced....Holme's hand speed was not the equal of either Ali's or Patterson's. When comparing to each's relative best days.
And that's a well researched, wise, sensible and quality opinion.

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Who else did Vitali fight besides Lennox Lewis who was 250 pounds and could punch???
Sam Peter was a noted puncher... He knocked out Oleg Maskaev previously...who knocked out Hasim Rahman twice...who knocked out Lennox Lewis.
Kirk Johnson... Who knocked out Oleg Maskaev...who knocked out Hasim Rahman twice...who knocked out Lennox Lewis... And Johnson also knocked out guys like Lou Savarese -- a guy who monster hitting George Foreman couldn't knock out or knock down.
Danny Williams... Who knocked out Mike Tyson in his previous fight.
Ross Puritty... A great big guy who could hit. He stopped Wladimir Klitschko previously.
Timo Hoffman... A 6'7.5" X 253 guy who was undefeated, 22-0 and most of the wins by KO.
None of those big, tall hitters came close to cutting Klitschko.
And Lewis fought much smaller Zeljko Mavrovic, and punched him non-stop for 12 rounds.. Didn't put a nick on him.. He never beat anybody else on cuts

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Tyson had superficial cuts that didn't threaten to stop the fight -- And Lewis hit him non-stop... Klitschko's face was totally clean after 2 rounds... Lewis slashed cuts open with a thumb jab and palm rake which happened within 20 seconds of the start of the 3rd... After they came out of the clinch initiated early in the 3rd by Lewis everyone could see Vitali had very bad cuts..
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Why are we talking about these sloths in this thread?
Charles, Johnson, Tunney, Patterson, Ali, Byrd....Hell even Roy Jone's Jr with an asterisk may have a deserved seat at this table.
They belong in this thread......folks should be speaking of more hares, and less tortoises here.

Perhaps some boxers you think are hares are sloths in disguise.. Perhaps not.. but I think we can compare from who they fought.BoxBuzz wrote:Why are we talking about these sloths in this thread?

If Roy Jones had fast hands what about Antonio Tarver's? ... AT is older than Roy. His KO shot came faster than Roy could react.
And Wladimir Klitschko out punched Chris Byrd 5 to 1 for 19 rounds... so what about Wlad's hand speed???
Little lhw Doug Jones had faster hand speed than a 21-year-old Ali... Harold Johnson was twice as fast as Doug Jones when he dominated his ass.
When Patterson got into exchanges with Jerry Quarry he got decked 4 times -- but if he entered the ring with the sloth Marciano, he'd get the KO.
And if Ali lost so much speed by 38 when he fought Larry Holmes ... how much speed did Holmes lose at 42 when he fought Ray Mercer? Or did Holmes simply retain all his speed into his 40's while Ali lost all his at an early age?
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Because of this argument you got yourself into I went and watched the fight; was quite impressed with Klitschlo, it was the first time I saw his heart (have seen only a few of his fights) - it was a great fight (even despite Lewis' poor conditioning) - I have to disagree with you, I could not see any foul connected to the 3rd round right hand - but during the subsequent clinch it sure looked like Lewis was trying to rub his head into Klitschko's face/cut.Kalan wrote:Tyson had superficial cuts that didn't threaten to stop the fight -- And Lewis hit him non-stop... Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
You need to watch the fouls in slo-mo.. You'd almost have to be the referee to see it otherwise.. The first 20 seconds of the 3rd all the major damage happens... The first right Lewis throw in that round is the thumb strike... The second Lewis right in the 3rd is the palm rake.. Lewis grabs VK around the neck -- and while he's holding and hitting slashes his left eyelid and left cheek with the palm rake... Watch the blow in slow-mo and you'll see it.
Lewis definitely does further palming action in the fight to worsen the cuts. He even gets a cursory warning for palming from the referee because it was so flagrant -- but without Lewis even looking at him. I believe the referee going to let Lewis get away with murder -- just like the same referee let Guerrero get away with murder in the Berto fight.

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Another thing the ref did was share some pretty useful info.
"Protect yourself at all times".
"Protect yourself at all times".
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
The fighters already know that BuzzBox... The referee's main job is to enforce the rules and officiate a fair fight... That's why the referee is needed.
If you're going to fight somebody in a back alley because you want to kill him -- both of you know the rules. Anything goes and no referee adjudicates.

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
But Vitali had a propensity to allowing himself to get hurt when in the ring with champions, partly by not properly prosecuting his fight.
He Did not protect his delicate parts vs Lewis and Byrd. Fact is He didn't fare well against other HW champions.

Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
You're full of BS BuzzBox... Vitali beat more Heavyweight Champions than beat him... Vital suffered an unfortunate injury to his rotator cuff assembly versus Byrd, but it could have happened versus anybody... That injury happens to many boxers... many football players... many baseball players... many tennis players... and many other athletes in general... You take certain risks in sports and the risk of injury is one of them. Injuries happen to the most skillful athletes -- including brain injuries that happened to some of your favorite boxers as they got hit upside the head.BoxBuzz wrote:But Vitali had a propensity to allowing himself to get hurt when in the ring with champions, partly by not properly prosecuting his fight.

Vitali Klitschko easily beat Heavyweight Champion Sam Peter when he was 37 years old after a 4-year layoff -- with NO tune-up fights.. He easily beat Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs at the age of 40, putting Briggs in a hospital with a broken face.. He easily beat Heavyweight Champion Corrie Sanders, beating the living crap out of him and stopping him.. He was outpointing Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis in a fight that should have gone to the scorecards for a unanimous technical decision in his favor -- which he would have won easily... and he was miles ahead of Heavyweight Champion Chris Byrd who his brother Wladimir completely dominated twice... Everyone knows that if he were healthy he beats Byrd easily.
Have you ever suffered an injury BuzzBox??? It's funny that you make all kinds of excuses for Ali, but won't give Vitali Klitschko ANY space whatever.

Vitali may well have been quicker than Joe hipp. He wasn't as tough or talented, but he may have had faster hands.

you seem to imagine that when a fighter you favor has an injury...it's just happenstance...coulda happened to anybody. As if perhaps Byrd and Lewis weren't in the ring with him, and he simply tripped on his own shoes. Which admittedly could have happened...but the likelihood is slim. When a boxer is injured....you rarely need to look too much further than his opponent as the chief cause. You on the other hand will search the world over for some sort of conspiratorial aspect...
Re: fastest hands in heavyweight history?
Saad, you have an agenda. You're a Klitschko hater... Hipp would not have lasted a minute with Vitalit Klitschko... Hipp was a punching bag who was knocked out by 3rd rate Tommy Morrison who was hitting him with everything he threw.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Vitali may well have been quicker than Joe hipp. He wasn't as tough or talented, but he may have had faster hands.
Morrison would have been crushed in the 1st round by Vitali -- just as he was by the inept Michael Bentt... Bentt was so unskilled he was nearly murdered when he fought a real Heavyweight in Herbie Hide... Hide was very slick, fast, and skilled -- but Hide was smashed out in 2 rounds by the undefeated Vitali Klitschko, who was 10 X better and scored his 25th straight KO win to win his 1st of THREE (3) Heavyweight Championships.
