Oscar De La Hoya vs Pernell Whitaker

It was a close fight and I never scored it but I would say maybe De La Hoya probably shaded it, he was a bit busier and threw and landed the more harder punches, I thought the punch stats throughout were way off, neither guy was landing the amount the compubox said, Whitaker as ever was elusive and Oscar struggled to land clean but in the close rounds with both trying to get a grip of the fight, Pernell gave away too much ground, he did put De La Hoya down in the 9th, it was hard to tell if it was legit, Whitaker did land a little left hand on the inside but it looked as if Oscar fell into him and his gloved touched down, De La Hoya switched to lefty a few times and had a little success

Not a classic IMO

As I mentioned I never scored it and in some close fights you sometimes surprise yourself when you tally up your score at the end and I forgot Whitaker lost a point due to the WBCs accidental cut rule so I would assume I had Oscar winning it, either way it was close and no way near a robbery, the cards were too wide though

Felix Trinidad vs Pernell Whitaker


Good little fight but Trinidad the clear winner in the end, he done everything so well, textbook fighter and very sharp, he scored a nice knockdown in the 2nd with a sharp right hand, Whitaker was still class but just not as good as he once was.

Felix Trinidad vs Oscar De La Hoya


Close, close fight, De La Hoya just taking his foot off the gas too long and allowing Trinidad to nick it, I never scored but maybe had Oscar scraping it but again I'm not so sure, he started off quicker moving from side to side shooting out the jab and having flurries whilst Trinidad started off a bit slower, it wasn't a great fight but it was a chess match between 2 elite level boxers, a fight of 2 halves, De La Hoya winning the 1st half and Trinidad the 2nd

I remember seeing HBO's Legendary Nights episode on this a few years back and seem to recall Oscar's corner telling him to coast late on as he already had the fight in the bag which proved costly in the end

Bernard Hopkins vs Felix Trinidad


Just an amazing performance from Hopkins, he really took Trinidad to school, i'd never seen him so aggressive before he probably landed more right hands than jabs and he landed is fair share of jabs too, its by far the best fight ive seen him in, Trinidad looked lost from the start and had answers for nothing Bernard did, and as the rounds when on Felix went from confused to hurt and Hopkins went for the kill,he shook up Trinidad right at the end of the 10th with an uppercut but the bell saved Tito, Hopkins could've coasted the last 2 rounds but showed a killer instinct rarely seen from him, more than likely he had De La Hoya's fight with Trinidad in mind and didn't want to risk the chance of giving it away on the cards, the right hand Hopkins put Trinidad down with to end things in the 12th was a beauty too, no way was Felix making the count

Also, I gotta add that it was this fight that put Bernard Hopkins in the all time pound per pound great status. It was his defining fight against an undefeated boxing superstar.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Arturo Gatti


Destructive performance from De La Hoya, his combinations were rapid and precise and Gatti just couldn't get out of the way of them, Gatti as ever came back firing and did land himself but Oscar was levels above, I thought Gatti was having a good 1st round until De La Hoya dropped him with an uppercut then after that De La Hoya took over, it was the battle of the left hookers but Oscar did work the right hand well too which was apparently the plan since he teamed up with Mayweather Sr, you even seen De La Hoya trying the shoulder roll now and again, eventually after Gatti had been hurt several times, De La Hoya got him out of there in the 5th when the towel came in after Oscar was raining punches on him

Hopkins absolutely creases De La Hoya with a left to the body in the 9th round, didn't look the hardest body shot ive ever seen but it must have caught Oscar right on the sweet spot coz he was rolling on the floor in agony, De La Hoya started off well determined not to be bullied by the naturally bigger Hopkins but as the fight wore on you could see Oscar struggling with the strength of Hopkins, not that there was much inside fighting for Bernard to manhandle De La Hoya but his shots always seemed to register on him and the longer the fight went Oscar started to look like he was losing faith a little, still he was in the fight just about and the finish must have been a shocker watching it live
