Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
Jacobs has been sparring with Derevyanchenko, who is probably the best possible boxer to help him get ready for Golovkin.
He refused to fight Golovkin in December because he wanted more time to get ready. Now after the additional three months, he's very well-prepared for this fight.
Jacobs is very focused right now. An upset on Saturday wouldn't surprise me.

Good post, its getting very interesting. Jacobs is also using (on the side) Virgil Hunter and working out at Hunters gym. Will Jacobs be doing lots of grapppling. I predict he will be doing back peddling because thats what type of boxer he is but with Hunter excessive backpeddling and then grappling when Golovkin comes close.Freedom2013 wrote:Jacobs has been sparring with Derevyanchenko, who is probably the best possible boxer to help him get ready for Golovkin.

Few of us can ever know what it means to step into the ring for such a dangerous fight.
If Jacobs goes for it right away he must have at least 30% chance. If he fights like Macklin did then I see it getting much closer, maybe coming down to a battle of stamina.
Jacobs is far better than Macklin was.

lol damn, i just noticed the polls, it is pretty harsh.Tarkus wrote:WOW noone believes Jacobs will win. Thats some reputation there. I bet Jacobs is feeling the pressure right now.
absolutely. well said.Thomastearns wrote:Few of us can ever know what it means to step into the ring for such a dangerous fight.

personally i give jacobs a 25% chance.
believe it or not the pirog loss might have been the best preparation to get danny ready for a fight like this.
you have to be willing to face life and death against ggg, and jacobs has already died once against pirog.
but seriously, jacobs is reborn and i think a loss can provide certain insight and experience to a fighter, and jacobs may have a better understanding on how to win(and lose) a fight like this better than triple g himself. golovkin is always serious but i don't think hes faced a fighter with the qualities of jacobs, so it will be interesting for how long it lasts. this might end up being a special fight.

Yes, I'm a bit surprised at the one-sided poll result.Tarkus wrote:WOW noone believes Jacobs will win. Thats some reputation there. I bet Jacobs is feeling the pressure right now.
Jacobs is younger, taller, has a longer reach, has good footwork and punches very hard.

Macklin had 1% chance. Jacobs is better, but he still has at most 15% chance. Bookies know what they are doing.Thomastearns wrote:Few of us can ever know what it means to step into the ring for such a dangerous fight.

It's possible that Golovkin may be knocked down for the first time tomorrow night.
Remember the Jacobs-Quillan fight? Jacobs' power is no joke.

Agree. Im still deciding whether or not to purchase it. It say's $64.95 Direct TV. But they never mention the hidden taxes so it comes out to around 80 bucks. I wish I could pay up front and get it over with. I hate seeing the cable bill being higher than it already is. I never know if Im getting my money's worth when it comes to Boxing PPV's. If the Boxing PPV's were 29.95 (40 bucks) that would be more worth it.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Wow, almost $80 for this. Yeah, I paid it. Still disgusting.

Will Jacobs forfeit money for violating his contract with GGG?

I doubt that the same day weigh-in was a part of contact. It is IBF specific.Freedom2013 wrote:Will Jacobs forfeit money for violating his contract with GGG?

Weigh ins should be immediately before the fight. Fighters should have access to officially calibrated scales beforehand so they know what their weight is and how much they need to lose. This is stupid. The guy's supposed to be a middleweight but if he comes in over 175 he'll actually be a cruiserweight.

Well, Latino fans fuel PPV for their own.lefty wrote:Let's see what PPV numbers Golovkin does (in regards to this narrative of him being a big draw). Let's see if he can match /surpass Canelo's numbers against Liam Smith who had never fought on American television before and was literally unknown to even a good amount of actual "hardcore" fans - unless you're from the UK.
The numbers he does against Jacobs are going to be used as a barometer to the final offer he gets from Canelo's camp.
So why not Canelo vs GGG? That would get high ratings.

The second weigh-in is IBF specific and not turning up for it means the IBF title won't be Jacobs' should he win. Jacobs does get out of paying the IBF sanctioning fees though.boxing_rocks wrote:I doubt that the same day weigh-in was a part of contact. I wonder how much difference there would have been had Jacobs turned up and got on the scales? At the weigh-in Jacobs looked shredded, and like he would gain a lot once he ate again.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Danny Jacobs March 18 on HBO
david lemieux didn't show up for the second weigh in..and his coach said that if he did, he would've been 172.
they wanted to maximise his size and energy.

I haven't bought the last couple UFC's and just got my cable down to $155 a month. I'm supporting ggg more than anything. Still a brutal price. Especially considering I have HBO just for boxing in the first place.MachoTime wrote:Agree. Im still deciding whether or not to purchase it. It say's $64.95 Direct TV.
