GOLOVKIN CLEARLY PAST HIS PEAK...

Post by Best Coast »

Regardless of whether you had GGG winning or not (I had Jacobs up by a point) you must admit Golovkin just doesnt have that edge he had a few years ago. His outing with blown-up welter Brook was also less than impressive and that is 2 lackluster bouts in a row. Could be age, could be something else...

Your thoughts?

He's done! Mayweather with 40 years old CAN beat him, canelo can beat him, his power is limited to 6 rounds.

Jacabs won, i didn't believe he could, but he did.
An american fighter was robbed in his city, hahaha, when we gonna see that again?

Kell Brooks management team should be put in jail for making the fight with Golovkin, Golovkin should be ashamed for fighting Brooks. No he’s not past his peak even though he lost the fight with Jacobs tonight
. Count your money and smile in relief.

Close fight, but I thought GGG just nicked it. GGG is the rightful winner in my opinion.

Props to Jacobs for coming back from Cancer, and I remember him being KO'd by Dmitry Pirog some years back, that was a hell of a KO and its great that Jacobs has rebounded so well from that. Many fighters would have became a designated loser after that KO, but Jacobs reinvented himself and it takes a lot of mental strength to do that.

& yes, GGG is clearly past his peak, showing his age just a bit. In his case I think his age is showing & he's lacking a bit of motivation.

Agreed. I think the lack of solid competition at 160 had adversely affected his motivational level. That, combined with losing a step at 35 is what kept him from blowing out Jacobs like he would have 2 years ago!! :OhYes:

Not to trivialize a tremendous showing by Daniel Jacobs, but Daniel's chin was already exposed badly by Dmitry Pirog, who was not a KO artist.

Canelo should wait another year/18 months to fight him. He's on the slide now, who knows what he'll be like in 12/18 months.

I am disappointed, because GGG was saying that he is not a businessman, but he fought like one. Was doing minimum to win without taking risks, as he had too much to lose. He won pretty confidently and probably made Canelo fight more realistic, but I am disappointed.

It think that was the plan anyway.

Golden Boy doesn't want any part of Golovkin at the moment.

was thinking the same

in a close close fight a atg puncher should let his hands go and do some serious damage and not boxing slow

He's 35 in couple weeks. He's had 487 fights. And last night he looked it.

I can't accept at 35 and after 487 contests he's in his prime. Sad thing is im not sure we ever really saw him tested when he was

I don't think weight had an influence on the fight.

The way the fight was fought and panned out i don't see advantage Jacobs had being 180 or 170

Not once did he utilise the added weight?

..what was the reason he gained it in the first place then?

GGG always walks into ring around 172. If coming in at 180 was such a big advantage don't you think GGGvteam would bring him in at that too ?

Jacobs always fights around 178-180.

Regardless of all that

My only point was "I don't think weight influenced the fight "

I didn't see what advantage , over the course of the fight, the extra weight made. That's all. Someone said Jacobs came in at 180... and?

What was the reason he gained it ....

I'd imagine he almost always comes in 180ish.

If it was planned i don't see how it helped his game plan

Maybe they think the extra weight in his shots would help. Small margins at this level can make the difference.

I agree.
Gennady lost control of the second part of the fight, where he's usually the strongest.

Did the dollars dent his motivation?
Did fluoride land (USA) work his "magic" on his Kazach body?

It looked to me he was seeing the openings but not letting his hands go, which is the definition of shot.
It was too strange to see him repeatedly touch gloves, which he never does.

Should he rematch Jacobs, he might lose.

He had too much to lose with potential unification with BJS and Canelo fights this year, so he didn't want to take risks.
