George Godfrey- Jack Renault III 1925
All the info you guys have about this bout, or newspaper articles you could share. that would be greatly appreciated
What you need this for?
Renault was 10-to-8 (Oakland Tribune, Kansas City Star) or 10-to-7 (UPI) betting favorite for several days prior to the bout, but 2 hours before the fight, they dropped to 10-to-9, and at the ringside the bets changed to 10-to-8 in favor of Godfrey.
Consensus of opinion was that it'd go full 10 rounds.
Referee was Tom Laird, SF sports wrtier, gave decision to Godfrey after 10 slow boring rounds, filled with lots of clinching and wrestling. Audience was booing the action so loud that the gong could hardly be heard in some rounds.
Attendance: 11,122
Gate: $26,759
Both fighters received slightly over $5,000 each.
Neither fighter looked tired after 10 rounds, showing excellent condition, although at the end Godfrey had a swollen left eye (from a head-butt).
Renault did most of the work, but most of his punches were blocked by Godfrey. No damaging blows were landed by either fighter, although Renault was down twice in the 4th round. Godfrey threw a lot of wild swings, throwing himself off balance, which could be countered easily by a clever boxer, but Renault either just blocked them or went on a bicycle, instead of countering.
There are two round by round descriptions of the fight, from Oakland Tribune and The Fresno Bee.

upwithevil is a troll, dont pay any attention to him. he thinks one source is the end of all sources. i have another source that tells a different story of godfrey-renault III than the oaklan tribune described. you need more than one source, for confirmation. just because the oakland tribune said one thing doesnt make it completley accurate. i need to look at other sources to clarify the oakland tribune wasnt talking out of its ass. for instance, a different source could tell a whole different story than another. you need a diverse of opinions. thats what im looking for here. thankfully this guy is emailing me a newspaper report of the LA times reporting godfrey-renault III.
Barry, you have any comments on godfrey-renault III?
kevin smith?? any comments

Re: George Godfrey- Jack Renault III 1925
Jack Renault was my great uncle. I have many scrap books of pictures and news paper clippings of his career and my grandfather has spent many years with him as he was his uncle and has told me many story's of him. quite a fascinating career probably more so then most.
I wear a necklace that he wore every single day sadly he took it off for fights and i can not find any pictures of him wearing it :(
