Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
On the Linares/Crolla 2 card this Saturday, any idea why there's a 3rd fight, did Hughes win an eliminator??
I think Ward has already proven in the other 2 fights that he has Hughes's number, I know their 1st fight was a draw but I thought Ward done enough, even counting the slip which was scored as a knockdown(or was it 2 slips?) either way, the rematch Ward dominated Maxi before Maxi retired on his stool with a broken nose after 5, Ward's had a couple of good wins against Townend and Clark and TBH I don't see any point in this fight, I would rather see Martin give Ronnie a rematch
Hughes as always will bring it but I don't think he has the skillset to beat the classier guys like Ward and Cardle and the longer these fights go on the further the other guy will pull away, I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes lasts the 12 round distance this time as he's had a full training camp for the 1st time ever I believe, but as I said Ward has his number, Maxi is a southpaw like Clark though so he could use the same tactics as a blueprint but he'll need to start faster than Ronnie did if he's to stand a chance of winning
I'd like to see Hughes pull this off as he has a draw with Clark early in his career so if he were to win, a rematch with Ronnie would be a great 1st defence

Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Maxi went over to Belfast and beat unbeaten James Fryers in a final eliminator.
Spoke with him last night, all i'll say is.. you will see :)
& 7/2 with skybet... thankyou very much!!
Everyone (including JIM WATT & hearn) thought maxi won the first fight. Second one just wasn't his night but he's in a much better place right now and he'll show it on Saturday.

Talking about defences Cacace must be next for either.

It wasn't a final eliminator. It was just a eliminator.

Martin's a great boxer, they know each other well now. I see Martin winning it with ease.
Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Didn't the referee miss two head buts and counted them as knockdowns for maxi in first fight? I think ward has his number a bit like he had townends. Maxi is a tidy boxer and doesn't really carry that much power though. I fancy a ward stoppage in a messy fight. Winner must defend b cacace but it will be a vacant belt if ward wins cause he wants no part of cacace. Ronnie would take that rematch though haha. I think Sam Bowen would be the only other fighter who would fancy the fight from the top 10 if I am honest. Zelfa Barrett and Woodstock not ready for it. James Tennyson will go down wbo route I would fancy and possibility of George jupp ?

Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Watch out for headbutts. There's been a few maxi fights with headbutts and cuts
Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Ward will beat Maxi comfortably. Will be a bit close first couple of round but Ward will then pull away and win either wide on points or a late stoppage.. As for Cacacae every where I read it's Ward is scared of him.. Come on this is a good 50/50 fight both very good technical boxers. I don't see what all the hype is about in Cacacae fight v Clark, Ronnie done the same as the Ward fight gave away the first half of the fight by starting slow.. Ronnie had to gamble and go all guns blazing in the last round and got caught by a silly counter.. Cacacae was also hurt in the last round. If that fight was over 12 rounds Ronnie would of won imo.. Very similar fights against both Cacacae and Ward he was better against Ward judging by both fights. I think Ward may have more heart at times it looked like Cacacae didn't like getting it back.. I really rate Ward think he's a very good fighter and just edge him to beat Cacacae also.. It's amazing the difference proper training does.. His team have nutritionists, Strength and conditioning coaches.. They run most days.. Do track work everything is done in the right way.
For the record I would also like Maxi to Win.

I thought Maxi won the first fight by a few rounds BUT the knockdowns contributed towards that and they shouldn't of been counted.
I like Maxi but Wards a level above and will score a late stoppage.

Ward should win but I'm not really impressed by him. His game is just moving around the ring trying to look flashy and then throwing a 1-2. That's it really. Hes got the size and length over Hughes so this should work but it won't work when he moves up a level.

Ward stoppage for me aswell thought maxi was very lucky against fryers i had fryers 2 up ward should win this comfortably hope he then fights cacace cracking fight that
Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
I remember one being a definite head butt Jamie so you're probably right. Ward had crouched and came up to land, Hughes threw a punch at the same time the heads came together. I remember at the time thinking it was a lovely shot by Hughes but in the replay it was the heads coming together that put him down.JamieM wrote:Didn't the referee miss two head buts and counted them as knockdowns for maxi in first fight? *edit, not a BUTT but a clash of heads. Wrong choice of word.

Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
not a fight I that needs to be made, they have already fought twice. Cacace is the fight that should be made, Ward will need one more defence after this and Anto is mandatory. Let see if he drops the belt or steps up.
Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Did I read it right.....did you say if Clark v Anto was over 12 rounds Clark would have won??? Even though he got knocked out in the 10th?daviddee wrote:Ward will beat Maxi comfortably. Been ordered winner must fight cacace or vacate
Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Clearly you weren't a the fight.. He wasn't knocked out Howard Foster stepped in with seconds to go.. Ronnie was going looking for the stoppage if he had another 2 rounds he would not have been so reckless.. He was 2 behind on 2 cards and even on the other.. He was winning 10 up until he got caught.. He always comes on strong at the end of fights was same with Troy James.. Cacacae was fading badly in the 10th and was a beauty of a punch out of nowhere it's boxing these things happen.. It's irrelevant because Cacacae won the only reason I compare them both is for my opinion who would win between Ward and Cacacae..rio wrote:Did I read it right.....did you say if Clark v Anto was over 12 rounds Clark would have won??? There was a stream of the show on facebook wasnt the best qaulity though i had fryers winning the fight i was also at the dome for the clarke fight i had maxi just knicking that one was a cracking fight thatJc89 wrote:dhb-raging bull wrote:Ward stoppage for me aswell thought maxi was very lucky against fryers i had fryers 2 up ward should win this comfortably hope he then fights cacace cracking fight that

Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
Not many had Maxi winning that one to be fair.. Best I could of argued for Maxi was 2 rounds so the draw felt Maxi only won 1 round in that fight. One thing about Maxi is he is tough and very game he has to use his boxing more if he wants to win a British Title. I had him beating Fryers comfortablydhb-raging bull wrote:There was a stream of the show on facebook wasnt the best qaulity though i had fryers winning the fight i was also at the dome for the clarke fight i had maxi just knicking that one was a cracking fight thatJc89 wrote:dhb-raging bull wrote:Ward stoppage for me aswell thought maxi was very lucky against fryers i had fryers 2 up ward should win this comfortably hope he then fights cacace cracking fight that

Re: Martin J Ward vs Maxi Hughes 3
I did see the fight. Clark was completely done when the ref stepped in. From what I seen Anto was certainly not fading in the the 10th. He could of just boxed and moved as he had the fight won but he really put it on Clark to get the stoppage to announce himself as a major player in the domestic scene.daviddee wrote:Clearly you weren't a the fight.. He was still on his feet was a good stoppage. He would of made the count and was fine seconds later. I think your recollection isn't great first 2 and a bit minutes Ronnie went right after him and had him hurt a few times.. He got caught with about 30 secs to go while throwing a big punch that hurt him.. Cacacae then jumped on him and forced the stoppage.. Not a Knock Out!! Was a good fight and both fighters are very evenly matched.. A rematch would be hard to call.

Was a few close ones on the night remember Gavin McDonnell getting a gift against Ashley Lane and sure Robbie Barrett had his debut against Kristian Laight and struggled a bit.. Didn't see either of them 2 going very far and look one fought for a World Title and the other away to fight for the Britishdhb-raging bull wrote:Most the lads had clarke winning aswell i just thought maxi nicked it was a very close fight that could av gone either way draw was a fair resultdaviddee wrote:Not many had Maxi winning that one to be fair..
