Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
Hi Eric,
Thanks for that info.
Ive uploaded some of Davids amateur fights to youtube, such as two of his wins in the world championships and his last amateur fight in the commonwealth games. He enjoyed watching them over again. I have seen in total 18 of Hayes amateur fights. Thats all that are online so any extra fights you have of his would be great to see. Any chance you can find them and upload them?
The following Haye fights are already online

vs A. Davie Wtko1 1995
vs Henry Vincent wko3 1995
vs Chris Crook wtko2 1996

David Haye vs Swedes 1-1
See http://www.mrboxhist.se/boxare/david-haye/
In 1998 a TKO win over a "nobody" followed by a clear loss against Andreas Gustafsson in the quarter-final of the 2000 Feliks Stamm tournament. Andreas was in total control of the fight. Andreas was a very good amateur boxer. Ended his career with a 6-0 record as a pro. I do not know the reason why he suddeenly quit the game.

Re:
LOL well after all these years since your post we now know that the two heavyweights he sparred before pulling out vs Hobson was Tony Bellew and David Price. Bellew put him down to a knee and Price dominated. At the time Bellew was huge and Price being 6'8 its not surprising he dominated the small 13 stone cruiserweight version of Haye.
charlieb wrote:Anyone have a more complete record? You know, with named opponents and losses included just for kicks?![]()
We all know about the his close call with Solis as well as the Twite catastrophe. There was also the points defeat to America's Michael Simms if I remember correctly. The latter seemingly a case of veteran vs youngster.
That's 3 of his definite losses, who are the other 4 to get one over on Haye and in what fashion?
We also know that Haye defeated Johansen as an amateur, who else did he face who now campaigns as a pro?
Given the see-saw "one minute brilliant - one minute brittle" nature of Haye's progression any insight would be welcome.
Reading snippets from the spanky new site, it seems that Haye's an open book in terms of discussing his triumphs as well as his tribulations, I'm sure he wouldn't mind you filling us in (Elliot).![]()
While I'm on the subject of Haye's losses, can anyone shed some light on the various sparring tales that have done the rounds? In particular the heavies he sparred in the run-up to the subsequently cancelled Hobson clash. Injury withstanding how badly did it really go for Haye? There's also the rumour that he was floored by David Dolan in a sparring session. Is there any truth to that?

Hi Eric,
Any luck in finding those early Haye fights you recorded? Can you confirm that he started his career losing two disqualifications and a bad decision? Do you know the names of those who beat him?
Thanks

Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
It looks like Hayes record was 83-13, I found another two losses. One on points and the other a walkover
But, 3 of the 13 losses were by Walkover, 2 were by disqualification, and at least 2 were by bad decisions so it could've been as low as 6 losses. Found only one win by Walkover so far so in reality if all walkovers are taken off as they don't really count, his record would be 82-10 or 82-6 with all bad decisions and Dq's taken away. Only stopped twice and one of those were on the outclassed rule vs Odlanier Solis. He was too exhausted after fighting 4 days back to back in hard fights.

This one but actually just found a link to the interview as welldawudbryant wrote:Oh ok, what magazine? I might have it.

Haye had to wait another seven years before his first trip to a boxing gym, the esteemed Fitzroy Lodge, in a railway arch not far from Waterloo station. A natural, he quickly earned a reputation as a big puncher.
“I had no skill whatsoever,” he says, of his early, unrefined fighting style. “I could punch really hard, I just had terrible timing. I didn’t know how to get it to them like just wing, wing, wing,” he says, throwing punches and forcing the barber to briefly halt his clipping.
“I knocked out probably 90 per cent of my opponents. That doesn’t really happen in amateurs. My first five fights were first round knockouts, for a little 11-year-old kid that doesn’t really happen, that’s not the normal thing.”
After rising through the ranks as an amateur during the late 1990s, Haye expected to turn pro after becoming an Olympian at Sydney 2000. But he was overlooked by the GB selectors who instead opted to take East London rival Courtney Fry at heavyweight – a fighter Haye had knocked out the previous year – and eventual Super Heavyweight gold medallist Audley Harrison, who Haye had to wait ten years to humiliate in an absurd mismatch.

Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
Haye also lost another England - USA in 1998 to Joe Pasterello 20-16.
They showed it on Sky and Haye really bashed him up early before completely running out of steam.

Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
7 of Hayes amateur losses were controversial.
2 were by disqualification for minor infractions inside his first 13 fights.
3 were by walkover.
2 were via controversial decision, one in the schoolboys and one to Giacobbe Fragomeni.
With more luck and Haye could’ve been anything from 62-6, 72-6, to 81-6 with all controversial losses taken out and walkover wins and losses.
There are a few different possibilities.

Just once by Jimmy Twite. He also lost by the outclassing rule to Odlanier Solis.
Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
He was down 31-17 when the Solis fight was stopped, so it wasnt an RSCO. I believe he reached the maximum number of standing counts permitted in a round.

Oh is it? Well he was never once hurt so the standing 8 counts were totally unfair as was the stoppage. Haye has been very unlucky in his career. He tore his bicep/forearm muscle in the world championships and when he landed the right uppercut on Solis in rd 1 his arm went again and he couldn't do much afterwards. Then he has the Klitschko loss where he broke his toe in training, and now this Bellew fight where he injured his achilles in training, then loses the fight because of it. Just goes to show that as soon as he is forced to train hard his body falls apart. Fighting bums he doesn't get injured because the training isn't as intense.

Re: Check out David Haye's Amateur Record
To be fair that was a pretty weak excuse and one I bet he never mentioned. It didn't stop him from running around the ring so couldn't have been that bad. He wasn't limping or looking in pain or distress either.dawudbryant wrote:crusader wrote:He was down 31-17 when the Solis fight was stopped, so it wasnt an RSCO. Haye was taking some punishment and was totally exhausted. And Solis was all over him. That's why the ref stopped the fight.crusader wrote:He was down 31-17 when the Solis fight was stopped, so it wasnt an RSCO. I believe he reached the maximum number of standing counts permitted in a round.

Haye was never hurt though. It was rd 3 of the finals of the world championships and the ref stops it. Dumb stoppage.
