Canelo generally does well against opponents that have to lose 40+ pounds. Ask Angulo and Kirkland.

Angulo and Kirkland lost that weight within couple of months. Chavez does it gradually. With a good nutritionist, it could work. I just hope he wouldn't quit like he did against Fonfara.

Junior is NEVER in this kind of shape so far away from the fight. He normally loses most of the weight in the last week before a fight. I love it. It shows that he's fired up for this one.

This is one of those fights that i love to watch because i want both guys to get knocked out. Either way, i'm happy. But I would like to see a war here and I think that Jr will push Canelo late and will be able to take Canelo's best punches. But will the ref allow him to take those punches? We'll see.

ODH took his time losing the weight too, over 9-10 months for Pacquiao. When it has been years since you have been that low, no one knows how your body will react. It had been about 8 yrs for DLH, and will be about 5 yrs for Chavez Jr. I hope he fights well, but have my doubts as far as stamina to make it 12. We all saw how DLH was...a walking ghost. A gradual weight cut is better than drastic, but if you lose too much weight the effect can be equally as bad. I hope I am wrong.

He looks like he's the size he should have always been for fights.

What's worrying for Canelo is that if he's not affected by the weight Jr can take a whack from much bigger guys and he can bang too. Unless he's drastically affected by the weight I fancy the upset here.

Oh boy! i really think Canelo bit off more than he could chew here. Didn't Jnr used to come in as cruiserwight when he was fighting at 160? Now they give a 164.5 catchweight, assuming fatboy is going to drain himself and come in as a ghost.

I might get shown up making this prediction but fornicate it, i think he'll be too big. Kind of a poor man's Cotto-Margarito 1. Canelo ouboxes him handily for the first half but can't hurt him and gets walked down and stopped as he wilts under the pressure. Jnr got to Martinez in the end and Canelo is not as good as Martinez was.

I'm also willing to wager that drug testing for this fight will be somewhat lax.

Chavez Jr. looked bulkier when he was competing as a middleweight, but now he’s probably a light heavyweight (currently heavier than the stipulated catch-weight for the Canelo bout) and he looks incredibly ripped, gaunt, tiny and frail. He doesn’t look healthy at all, even if he might be.

His head looks enormous in comparison to his stick-thin body, which kind of reminds me of a lollipop.

ODH was older too -- 35 when he faced Pacquiao -- which could have been a factor.

I have a suspicion that Chavez jnr is washed up after the Forfara loss. I think that granite chin he used to have is no longer going to be there. He's probably going to be susceptible to body shots aswell, I suspect.

Not exactly parallelll situations. I was shocked PAC was an underdog against dlh. He was always in shape at 54. Chavez hasn't physically looked good since he left 60. You're certainly right if those pics are recent. No need to be on weight now.

Yea I think Canelo will be targeting that body, given he's the smaller fighter, given he's a very good body puncher and given it will weaken Chavez. Body and pictures don't tell much IMO. I also think he could be washed up, something about him suggests AOD abuse, which runs in the family. Maybe this is one of the reasons the fight is being made. I hope he's not though, I would love it if he pulled it off and I'm rooting for him.

He looks good but thats not going to help him. He hasn't got a skill to stay with Canelo. When that hits him in the mouth he will quit just like he did with Fonfara.

I think you hit the nail on the head Tarkus, between Chavez Jr.and Canelo is a huge skills gap. I will had heart to that too based on junior's last fight with Fonfara. Not that I ever thought Canelo was a master technician, but he is a very good boxer. He only struggles with guys that are slicker boxers. (Floyd, Lara, even Trout)

I'd be pretty surprised if this wasn't competitive. This is absolutely Chavez last chance as far as the Mexican fan base is concerned. I have to think he cares about that.

Yep, if he quits in the Mexican war with hundreds of thousands fans watching, everybody including his father will be extremely disappointed.
