Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
"I'm losing interest in Canelo, because you know, I have a lot of experience in my career. You know, they talk a lot, they say a lot of trash. Canelo says he's very good, the best.. okay, why do you not fight me? I'm ready, I'm ready for anyone,"
"[Canelo] says he is ready, he will call me tomorrow. I have waited for two years. It's a long time for me, this is not interesting." said Golovkin
ATM I think Golovkin really wants to unify all the titles and nothing more. Golovkin waited for 2 years to fight Canelo and if you ask me this fight should've happened after Canelo faught Khan.

I don't blame GGG.
Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
Golovkin is making excuses to duck.
Why is this guy never willing to accept what he is worth in order to make the big fights?
Why won't he fight Lara?

Why won't Canelo give Lara a rematch?Horse wrote:Golovkin is making excuses to duck.

What's Horse's beef with GGG? Did he KO him or something? or beat us his cousin?RScarf1 wrote:Why won't Canelo give Lara a rematch?Horse wrote:Golovkin is making excuses to duck.

Let's see how Cornholio does against Chavez Jr. Then maybe his stock will drop.

Golovkin's high reputation is not fitting Horse's stupid p4p and other rankings he is obsessed with.Ruthless-RKO wrote:What's Horse's beef with GGG? Did he KO him or something? or beat us his cousin?RScarf1 wrote:Why won't Canelo give Lara a rematch?Horse wrote:Golovkin is making excuses to duck.

I lost interest a long time ago. Golovkin should chase the final piece to his collection, rematch Jacobs and then either retire undefeated or move up to 168.

Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
This is simply psychologic gamesmanship. It seems that GGG’s stock dropped slightly (for the mainstream masses) when Jacobs proved that Golovkin was actually a mere mortal. This might make the Canelo bout harder to sell to the casuals.
I also feel that K2 are trying to drive a hard bargain with GBP at the negotiating table, with Eric Gomez claiming that Loeffler wants 40% of the revenue generated instead of the $15m flat-fee being offered.
The thing is... in the US, where else is GGG going to command that sort of money when the biggest purse guarantee he’s received on American shores to date was the $2.5m guarantee he received against Jacobs… and prior to that, the $2m Golovkin got paid to face Lemieux?
Also, if the GGG-Jacobs fight does far less than 200K PPV buys, this weakens K2’s position significantly, because this will reinforce GBP’s belief that Golovkin typically generates less than a third of Canelo’s figures.
Another problem is Golden Boy’s reliance on their ginger-haired cash cow. They’re trying to run a business and there’s nothing to motivate them to risk devaluing their most prized asset, whilst also taking all the financial risks to promote the GGG-Canelo super-fight, without being compensated handsomely, simply for the sake of paying Golovkin an over-inflated purse.
So perhaps GGG is trying to weaken GBP’s position by pretending that he doesn’t really need the Canelo fight as much as they think he does? Perhaps this is a pre-emptive strike, in order to downplay the significance of the disappointing Golovkin-Jacobs PPV buys when K2 negotiates with GBP.
In my opinion, Golovkin needs this fight far more than Canelo does, because he’s almost 35 years of age (physically past-his peak), there aren’t that many big payday opportunities available that allows him to remain in his 160lb comfort zone and his legacy lacks any signature victories over any similar-sized pound-for-pound marquee names.
Gennady would have to face at least four Danny Jacobs’ type opponents to receive the equivalent Canelo purse. And the risks for GGG fighting Alvarez are probably quite small, considering he’d likely be installed as a huge betting favourite to win that fight.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. had to play the part of the proverbial B-side against Gatti and De La Hoya en-route to become the sports leading PPV attraction… and I feel that Golovkin has to be willing to make similar concessions, by accepting GBP’s offer, if he holds any realistic ambitions for his appeal to crossover to the mainstream masses.
Simply put: GGG isn’t losing interest in Canelo. He’s simply issuing an idle threat to GBP, a negotiating tactic, by pretending that he’s willing to walk away from the fight if his demands aren’t met.

Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
GGG said he wants all the belts, so that means Billy Joe will be his next opponent. I think he cares more about being undisputed champion than Canelo. If Canelo does not perform well against Chavez Jr., then Canelo will have less bargaining power.
Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
It's hillarious, Canelo is clearly more in the wrong, but GGG should've done way more to get the fight if he realy wanted it, also it's pretty blatant that like Canelo wanting to leave it as longas possible, GGG wanted to fight Canelo when he was as small and young as possible.
Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
Good post, I'd also like to add if GGG beat Canelo, Canelo would almost certainly wan a rematch, for which Golovkin could get a lot more of the purse.Enlightened-One wrote:Floyd Mayweather Jr. had to play the part of the proverbial B-side against Gatti and De La Hoya en-route to become the sports leading PPV attraction… and I feel that Golovkin has to be willing to make similar concessions, by accepting GBP’s offer, if he holds any realistic ambitions for his appeal to crossover to the mainstream masses.
Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
Canelo needs to fight GGG before GGG hangs them up or else his career will be marred by the ducking.
You really don't see a duck like this in the sport. When a boxer and promoter ask for another fighter to enter the ring after their fight to promote a showdown and then they duck it. I've never seen anything like that.
Canelo and Oscar will make some feeble attempt by offering GGG 10% or something just so he can decline the offer and fight someone else. Then they can walk around saying that GGG is afraid to take the fight. Joke.

Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
I think if it doesn't happen this year, it won't. GGG might just call it a career after this year and collecting all the belts who knows. I really hope they fight because the result is not a given, guaranteed victory for either guy. I have said for a long time that if it goes 12 rounds, Canelo wins. I do think it would go 12 if it happens.

Yes, if it goes 12 rounds and GGG doesn't drop Canelo multiple times, judges will give it to Canelo. I don't think it goes 12 though. GGG will not fight like he did against Jacobs.Badhusker wrote:I think if it doesn't happen this year, it won't. GGG might just call it a career after this year and collecting all the belts who knows. Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
Canyellow will never live down the fact that he dropped his belt instead of defending it against Golovkin. Bowe did the same against Lewis. Cowardly stuff to give up your belt to avoid a fight.
Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
I agree with Donkey. Since the Canelo fight about 3 years ago Lara has beaten Ishe Smith, Delvin Rodriguez, Jan Zaveck, Martirosyan and destroyed the mighty Yuri Foreman. All in a different weight class to Golovkin's (he's never fought a decent opponent above 154lbs).Horse wrote:Golovkin is making excuses to duck.

Come on people! Use your Donkey logic! Forget Saunders. Forget Alvarez. Forget Jacobs. Lara v GGG must happen next!

Why's Golovkin ducking him if he's so rubbish?Shirow wrote:I agree with Donkey. Golovkin moans about Alvarez ducking him because he is a bad risk vs reward fight, but then he does the same for Lara, because might win.

Re: Golovkin : 'I'm losing interest in Canelo'
If Golovkin ducks Lara, then he also ducks Vanes, Andrade, Ishe Smith and of course Rod Salka. Lara brings nothing to the table. He hasn't beaten a champion at 154, but wants to fight the unified MW champion ???Horse wrote:Why's Golovkin ducking him if he's so rubbish?Shirow wrote:I agree with Donkey. Golovkin doesn't bring enough to the table to entice Alvarez, but that doesn't stop Golovkin's fans crying about Alvarez not wanting the fight.boxing_rocks wrote:Lara brings nothing to the table.

Jacobs brought more to the table than Lara would. So are BJS and Canelo. Even Brook brought more to the table than Lara would.

It would be the best win of Golovkin's career, but Golovkin doesn't have the guts to step in the ring with him.boxing_rocks wrote:Golovkin brings more to Canelo's table than anybody else. Period.
