Lemieux vs. Reyes Added To Canelo-Chavez

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Less than two months after delivering the top knockout of 2017, Canadian knockout artist David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) will return in a 10-round fight against Marco “Dorado” Reyes (34-4, 25 KOs) as the chief support to the highly anticipated battle between Canelo Álvarez and Julio Cesar Chávez, Jr. on Saturday, May 6. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

“I'm thankful to have the opportunity of being part of this event during the Cinco de Mayo celebrations,” Lemieux said. “I think I was able to send a clear message on March 11 with my performance against Stevens and I intend to do the same on May 6. I want to make sure that everyone understands that David Lemieux is making his way towards the top and that he intends to stay there.”

Reyes, a 29-year-old former WBC FECOMBOX middleweight champion, has knocked out 25 opponents and went toe-to-toe with Chavez, Jr., in a unanimous decision defeat that many spectators had closer than what came up on the scorecards.

I can't help but wonder if David is being looked at as a potential opponent for Canelo because of this.

They are setting up Canelo vs Lemieux in September. Canelo will keep waiting for GGG to grow old or move up.

This is a direct message to GGG! To let him know they'll give September's payday to Lemeaux.. just because Golovkin wants to become undisputed champion in June..

Or they're just going to make Lemieux-Canelo anyway....

Exactly. How many times Golovkin waited for a big fight which didn't materialize? To not fight BJS hoping to get Canelo in September would be the most stupid thing to do. Canelo is not going anywhere if Golovkin stays at 160.

I wonder hiw good of a move it is? In my opinion Lemieux wil come out strong and fast being the bigger guy he will ktfo Canelo inside 6 rounds. No offense to Alvarez, Lemieux is a beast inside those first round and i doubt Ginger ever felt this kind of power

My best case scenario is Canelo goes after Lemieux later this year and David knocks him out cold.

I was critical of Lemieux during the hype job that was his first run for a title, before Rubio and Alcine burst that bubble. But the Canadian has proven to be more than a siamese fighting fish. His determination to improve his skills and to fight anyone and everyone has made him one of my favorites.

Lemieux has earned my respect. I would love to see him get the GingerHead fight, hopefully explode that pumpkinhead, and rematch 3G or battle Jacobs.
