John Ryder at Super-Middleweight.

Post by Fitzy901 »

How do you think he will get on?

I personally think he is a superb boxer and believe the move up in weight was correct as he looked very tight at Middleweight.

I think struggling to make 160lbs was also a contributing factor to getting stopped by Blackwell (He was cruising the fight up until the stoppage.)

My only concern he is very short for the weight and faces a tall SMW in Fielding in his first fight.

He's a dwarf. He was short for middleweight.

I think he has a good chance against Fielding who I have never rated.

I'm really favouring Ryder because of his comfort in his last fight albeit against a fat middleweight. And an average one at that.

Fielding has issues but if he can land on Ryder then it may be a tough night, I'll still take the cuteness of Ryder over Rocky for now. Seeing them side by side may sway me different!

Does he actually consider his nickname to be 'from stocky'?

Or is that just MC John McDonnell.

John is a cracking fighter but small for a middleweight let alone super middle, Rocky will be a monster size wise in comparison in the ring and ultimately it will tell

Will Brophy be challenging the winner?

Just to echo what has already been said in that he is too small for SM. He can look terrific when he's in song but he has a terrible habit of just totally switching off in fights.

Can't help but feel the weight hampered his performances of late, must say, John Ryder gave BJS arguably one of his toughest fights.

I think he does a number on Rocky, I'm not sold on him one bit, lost to Rebrasse for me but got the decision on the cards.

He may be stronger at 168 than he is at 160, but he'll be facing bigger guys as well.

He'll look tiny next to Fielding, and I think he's going to be physically overwhelmed at some point.

Fielding isn't a big 168 pounder.

I was surprised at how noticeably smaller he was than callum smith

I wouldn't say that was a great comparison though as Smith is huge at the weight and in my opinion will have the majority of his top level career at 175lbs.

Fielding is a biggish at 168lbs for me. He's a decent puncher but I don't see him as special in any way, I'd be surprised if he ever succeeded above British/Commonwealth level.

Ryder is at a similar level to be honest, but will be a small super middle, although sturdy at the weight. Etches isn't all that though and in reality is a middle weight as well.

I'd pick Fielding but it's a close enough fight. Brophy would be a good shout for the winner, good evenly matched fights where, in my opinion, all three guys are around the top end of their level, baring in mind how strong the division is domestically

I assume the MC asks the fighters how they want to be introduced.

If it's McDonald I'd be surprised.

Unless most fighters do actually say "can you mangle the last syllable of my surname please John".
